I'm not at that point and don't know the ins and outs of the story, but the Whisperers seem extremely silly. They started interesting. Then someone licked an eyehole, and things got out of hand. The fuck?

I got a fuckton of TWD volumes for Christmas, so I've been rereading the ones I already have (1-7) and started on the ones I just got (8-15). Here's some bullet points: - Comic Carl is way more likeable, even if the reasoning is 'look, a kid'. Makes me like Riggs in the show even less. Child actors, am I right?
- Comic Andrea is way better than show Andrea. I knew this going in, but... oh my god. So much better.
- Comic Tyreese. Like... what the fuck happened in the show?
- The prison battle. It was so much better, but that might be because it didn't feel pathetic in the character deaths department. Did anyone besides Hershel die in the show version?
- Most of the characters are likeable, but their personalities don't really feel unique. Their dialogue all seems to blend into one another unless they have a cue like Axel's 'you follow me?' or they're a bit mental like Carol.
- For some reason I seemed to recall hearing Axel survived until the Hunters arc or something, and it sucks to see he died so quickly. Sad to see him go.
- This is more of an observation but I can see where the Michonne game fits in. There are times when she's talking to nobody, and a time I noted where she was like "not now" to nothing in particular, which I can only assume were directed at visions of her weirdly-named dead kids. Plus what she did to Randall in the vice is nothing compared to the Gov.
- Aldard really struggles to make characters look unique. Is it Rick? Is it Dale? Otis? Hershel? Who the fuck knows? For many characters the hairstyle is all that can be used to define them.
- Michonne is a bitch. She shows up and ruins Carol's relationship, thereby tempting Carol to go off the deep end and attempt suicide once, then succeed on the second attempt. Tyreese played his role in that too. I don't like her, so... I guess the game did capture her pretty well.
- Lori's just as annoying, but in a more 'nagging wife' way than her 'complete waste of space' characteristics in the show. Glad she went bye-bye.
- A lot of people were just set up to be cannon fodder for the prison arc. Otis, Patricia, Billy and Rachel and Susie Greene. The latter two felt like Kirkman being an edgelord for the sake of being an edgelord. I guess telltale did learn a thing or two about child characters being murdered for shock value.
- The Governor was a fucking cartoon villain. Like... "lololol i tricked u lololol im gonna raep michonne lololol" He just lacked any sense of subtlety. After the show I expected far more from him and it was really disappointing. It's a shame when a character introduced in Season 3 of the show is better than their comic counterpart.
It's had its ups and downs so far, but I'm definitely enjoying it. Haven't read this much of a comic ever, so it's a nice change to the norm really.
Yeah, Michonne is a cunt in the comics, waaay better in the show. And yeah, Governor is better in the show absolutely.

So I don't even know who's still reading the comics(like, is caught up), for those who aren't no spoilers here, but I just want to take a little poll... So, I think most of us can agree that the "A New Beginning" arc was bad. I mean, I'm sure we all have opinions with varying degrees of bad, but still, bad. Now, I personally like The Whisper War... but it feels shallow. Like, it doesn't feel as if any problems from A New Beginning have been fixed, it's just easier to ignore them because there's action and things are more fast-paced, but even outside of that... this arc just feels shallow and lifeless. Like, yes, it's entertaining, but there's just... nothing behind it. I don't know if I'm getting across what I mean... I don't know, I still feel like the comic could have, and probably should have, ended with All Out War. Or at least Rick's story, for a while. Wait, it was called a New Beginning? Wasn't that the name of the fifth Friday the 13th film?

I'm still reading the comics. The last issue of The Whisperer War comes out in a few days and I'm hoping we get at least ONE major character death out of it. And no Gabriel doesn't count.

If Andrea dies, I'm out. At this point she and Negan are the only reason I'm still reading this stuff, and even Negan is slowly devolving into a meme.

Yeah it sad when the creator of a series sort of gets to attached to a character and they start to become less interesting as a result.

Ok I'm back again:
Claimers (TV Show) > Marauders (Comics)
Isn't the comics supposed to be about morality and humanity and shit, then Bobby K goes and introduces a group of generic bandits that all look the same and have no personality aside from "rapey bandits"? Joe and the Claimers were way more interesting and didn't feel like they were just there for Rick to kill at the end.
Considering the Comic Marauders are so much more minor than I expected, there's no reason that the New Frontier couldn't have used the name too.
I also keep reading Abraham's lines with Kenny's voice. And I'm glad Daryl doesn't exist.

Well... Morgan was kind of disappointing. From what I'd seen I thought there was more to him than coming back for a bit and then dying during No Way Out. Didn't really feel like he had much of an arc to me?
Carl remains farrrr superior to his show version. Comic Rick and Show Rick seem oddly detached from one another compared to other characters, even if they do a lot of the same things. It seems like though their actions are the same, the cogs whirring around in their heads are different.
Andrea is slowly becoming one of my favourite characters - no wonder she won the H&H way back when we did that.
I kind of prefer Show Ron shooting Carl better than Comic Douglas doing it by accident, but then I feel like it being an accident is just as viable an option. I'd take either one.
I'm determined to catch up to the present day and I think that's Volume 27? God I'm gonna end up spending so much...

so the "end of the whisperer war" doesn't feel like an end to anything. Like, why make it out to be this one huge big arc when it doesn't really end at Part 6. So... yeah.

I get Jayko's dislike of Morgan, but man, when I saw Morgan again, I was fucking floored. I always have a soft spot for characters from the beginning of something returning. It makes me feel like there's a through-line, you know? And it paves the way for some really interesting character development, seeing how different both Rick and Morgan are, compared to their earlier selves. And I also just thought Morgan's long crazy hair was fucking sweet.
But what sold it for me, though, was Morgan's final speech. When he called Carl Dwayne, that was an amazing moment for me. It wasn't like when Kenny called Clem Duck. Not at all. It wasn't an offhand, "pass me that can Dwayne, aw shit." No, it was this big emotional speech for Morgan. He had prepared it. He thought of it before his son ever died, and remembered it long after his son's death. He wanted to leave his son with wisdom, and strength, but instead, he failed his own kid. God I have a soft spot for father son relationships. That made me tear up a little bit.
tl;dr: Morgan hit two of my own personal soft spots in a really strong way.
Fuckin' love Morgan. Second only to pre-time-skip Carl, and Negan.

We know Carl's been feeling like ass ever since it happened, and Morgan didn't make things worse even though it was a child's death and it's likely a sensitive topic considering he saw his own son die. If nothing else, I can appreciate that. It's not so much that I dislike the character, more that I dislike the fact Kirkman didn't seem to do much with him.
