Huh. Remember season 1? When Kenny would either be your best friend, or leave you for dead depending on how much you kissed his ass? That's EXACTLY what this is about. Remember how, if you saved Shawn, he'd tell Hershel that you tried to save him? Remember how in episode 2, Carley would shoot Andy St. John, but Doug would use a fuckin' laser to save you? Or how Clementine got a new sweater if you stole from Campman? It's those little unnoticeable changes, alongside big, character defining changes that gave us shit to talk about. In the S1 days, what was the biggest conversation? It was always, always always Kenny. Is Kenny a good person? Does he deserve Lee kissing his ass? What does Kenny leaving Lee to die by Danny's hands say about Ken as a character? We cared about that shit. In ANF, what do we care about? What have we talked about? Man, Mari's death was lame. ... Heh. Trip has a funny beard. ... Gabe gets boners. And now I'm pissed off again that Kenny, who was such a huge part of this series, died in a fucking car crash in a five minute flashback. Thanks man! But seriously, it is just kind of sad to think of just... how much life ANF seems to have drained from this community. I know that Telltale really isn't the life blood of the community anymore, but still, there used to be something about the release of a new episode, the rush of all of those spoiler tags. It may not be the reason why we all stick around anymore, but it was something that united us. And it started back a while ago. Minecraft got nothing, Michonne got some hate, but no real discussion, I barely remember anyone caring about the release of new Batman episodes.... and now, we still do have something uniting us, and it's hate. It's not comparing choices and debating about characters, it's not saying what we liked or didn't like, predicting what's going to happen next, it's just.... hate. And there's just... something sad about that. Yeah its one of those things that, you may move on from, but never gets less infuriating.

Which is sad really, and to quote my favorite combat bark from Bioshock Infinite. "We are united by rage, bound by blood!"

BREAKING: BRUNER IS GONE!I can't help but feel that what I wrote sometime ago was true, especially this part: It's clear something went wrong after Bruner became CEO. Seeing what happened after that, it's clear that his vision won over the board - quick and cheap development (likely outsourced a lot more than their previous titles) of short episodes. This is also the moment that something truly went off the rails. (...) Then comes Batman and I'm 100% sure that Telltale felt underwhelemed by how low it sold, but this is also where Bruner's hypothetical vision for the company completely fell apart. (...) And then the disaster happens. The game has a godawful PC launch, with lots of gameplay/graphics bugs and glitches;it turns out that the console versions have a lot of these issues too. (...) But then there's a wave of refund requests (as it could've been evidenced on Steam discussion groups). And Telltale, for the first time in YEARS, knows that they fucked up big time and tries to do damage control. They release one patch during the first week of release, and then - before the finale - another major patch that optimizes the game. It doesn't work, sales are still low. (...) This is the sign that Telltale's in trouble. Batman underperformed, but hey - one mistake might happen, right? But here's the catch - they have TWDS3 announced as their fall title. Guessing from all the behind the scenes stuff that resurfaced recently (...) they realized that after Batman fiasco they can't take any chances and probably decided to play it safe - or maybe they didn't have enough money to follow through with their original plans. (...) TWD3 was likely quickly rewritten or scaled down from the 'big' game to a typical TT one (railroaded, little-to-no hubs, choices with no impact) to make the release date. The game probably didn't have its storyline finished before release. (...) People simply grew tired of TT's shtick. Other developers showed they can do choice-consequence games better while Michonne, GOT and Batman were either panned or received polarized reception by the fandom. People simply decided they're not going to settle for a subpar story and buy whatever TT pushes out. Now TT desperately announced Guardians, coinciding with the release of the movie to build up on the hype, but they know they're fucked. Now they're trying to scramble a cohesive story for TWDS3, Guardians is a question mark. GOT2 might be their last resort.
Batman was the first mistake and ANF is another. The next ones might be quite costly for TT. There was a mass exodus of the (arguably) most talented writers from TT. Even Brad Kane is gone. Bruner was supposed to lead the studio into the future while they grew. Also it probably had something to do with the Lionsgate deal and SuperShow, which I'm sure is 100% cancelled at this point, they will probably try to make people forget about it. They won't risk money right now, when their situation is uncertain. Unfortunately, with Connors as CEO and no post-TWD era writers except for Darin, it doesn't look good. DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD!!! FUCK YOU KEVIN! GO FUCK YOURSELF! If Telltale is going to sink I wanted that miserable bastard gone before its final moments.

I mean, no need to celebrate a guy stepping down from his job... he was the CEO of a gaming company that went belly up, not the head of the Klu Klux Klan.
That said, this is definitely more of a positive than a negative in my eyes. For the first time in a while, I feel hope. I know that it's weird to be hopeful after a company loses its CEO and basically publicly admits it has issues, but the first step towards fixing a problem is admitting you have one to begin with.

Can we make it a streak and get rid of Job too?
Also I believe this means their engine will actually be able to improve beyond the Telltale Tool because according to Glassdoor Bruner was incredibly adamant about not moving on from something he helped make like a billion years ago.

Well 12 years ago really but it may as bloody well be. And yeah, speaking of Glassdoor, I don't remember as many negative comments about Dan Connors as Bruner, I can't recall him saying mourn after work unlike a buddy Kevin.

So... I played both episodes. If I had to use a single term to describe them, it would be "mixed bag". I'll have a more in depth write up later. write up when
