So, just watched Return of the Jedi. Right now I'd lay my opinions out as: Empire Strikes Back (9) > Return of the Jedi (8.5) > A New Hope (7) (if we're being honest the only thing bumping Empire up to a 9 and New Hope up to a 7 are their place in popular culture and movie canon. I'm more inclined to say Empire is basically about as good as Jedi at an 8.5, and New Hope if closer to a 6, maybe 6.5) I really enjoyed Return of the Jedi! There are a couple weird bits, but I've come to accept that. Yoda dying is just... idk, a bit weird, it seems as if the seams of the plot are showing. Like, they needed Luke to find out Leia was his sister when planning things out, but never found a way for that reveal to feel natural. I didn't really buy Luke's compassion for Vader, but I guess that's because a lot of that was through the Force. And then just... uh, what was up with that random alien band at Jabba's palace? And of course the slave outfit :/ But aside from those issues, it was really great! The whole first act of freeing Han from Jabba's palace was pretty great, the confrontation with Vader and the Emperor was great, and... uh, if it a controversial opinion to say I think the Ewoks are great? Like, I've heard some people don't like them? I personally loved them. I can see how the slightly more light-hearted tone might lead people to like Empire over this, and personally I would say I also preferred Empire, but honestly, I think it's basically the same level of quality more or less. So... yeah. I have now seen the original Star Wars trilogy, and it was on the whole pretty great. Y'know, I wasn't in love with it, but it was pretty great. Now onto the prequels.... Fun Fact Numero Dos, Endor was originally supposed to be Kashyyyk, Chewbacca's homeworld, which means the Ewoks were originally going to be Wookies. Now imagine that battle. Also, the random alien band was added in years later by Lucas. It's one of his infamous edits, like Greedo shooting first or Vader yelling "NOOOO" when he saves Luke. That stuff wasn't in the original versions.

I think that one can be justified. Fun Fact Numero Dos, Endor was originally supposed to be Kashyyyk, Chewbacca's homeworld, which means the Ewoks were originally going to be Wookies. Did you see the scene with Han talking to Jabba in A New Hope? Also edited. Originally it was cut from the actual film, but added in later with DVD releases or something. Plus in that scene Jabba wasn't a giant space slug, he was just a fat guy, so even more editing. Also at one point a CGI animal just walks past the camera and blocks most of the screen when arriving in Mos Eisley. There were a lot of stupid edits to later versions of the films.

Yeah Jabba was in my version of A New Hope. And yeah, I remember the random animal thing.

Right, so I've seen The Phantom Menace.
....
.............
................................
I didn't think it was that bad? Like, not even really any sort of significant step down in quality? It wasn't as good as Empire or Return, but it was about as good as New Hope. It had some annoying characters, some wooden actors, it was a bit slow in places, and there was some awkward plotting and stiff dialogue, but, at the risk of being attacked by any more freverant Star Wars fans here.... those are all issues that plagued the previous three movies.
Like, okay, Jar Jar. Jar Jar is, mostly, annoying, but he's got some good jokes written into him, too. He's ultimately a negative to the film overall, but not by much. 'd argue that A New Hope sticking us with C-3PO for like the first 20 or so minutes was honestly more annoying. We never get extended stretches of the film with just Jar Jar, so his annoying moments are kinda mitigated. I think he's overall worse than C-3PO, but that opening stretch in New Hope of mostly just 3PO is more damaging to that film than Jar Jar was to Phantom Menace, if that makes sense.
Jake Lloyd is really stiff and wooden, but he's mostly offset by Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, and Natalie Portman. Plus, he's a kid so I can give him some slack. On the whole, the Phantom Menace cast isn't as good as the New Hope cast, but I think A New Hope was damaged by Mark Hamill not being fully up to the task of playing the main character at that point in a way that doesn't really have an analogue in Phantom Menace.
All the films suffer from really awkward plotting more or less equally. These films really don't know how to make events flow naturally into each other. And I'd say the dialogue is about as rough in both Phantom Menace and A New Hope.
So uh, long story short.... yeah, it was flawed, but ultimately enjoyable, which was kinda what I thought of A New Hope.
Also, the CGI isn't too bad, but then again, I personally rarely notice bad CGI.
And I gotta say, Phantom Menace does get points for delivering on actually good lightsaber duels. Even the best ones in the original trilogy felt kinda stiff, and while the ones in Menace are maybe a little over choreographed, I think on the whole they're better.
So, updated list:
Empire (9) > Return (8.5) > New Hope (7) = Phantom Menace (7)

If push came to shove I guess I'd say A New Hope has a slight edge on The Phantom Menace because Menace does have that really slow bit in the middle that kinda drags everything down.

I thought pretty much all the acting was bad in TPM, aside from Ewan McGregor, plus seeing Natalie Portman coming on to Jake Lloyd was... iffy, even though Padme was supposed to be 14 she always looked like an adult to me so yeah.
I found nothing funny about JarJar at all. And the Gungans I really hate. They just seem like a species of clowns.
Also, I really dislike the midichlorians crap. It took away too much of the mystery of the Force for me. The only real redeeming factors in my eyes were Ewan McGregor and the duel with Darth Maul.
I'm not saying not to like it or anything, I love it when people like Star Wars, I'm just throwing my hat in to say why I dislike it.

Well, everyone was pretty wooden, but idk I thought they were basically okay aisde from Jake Llyod. Also, yeah, the age difference between Jake Llyod and Natalie Portman looks a lot bigger than it is and it's uncomfortable. Like I said, Jar Jar is mostly annoying, but idk i didn't hate him. He's just irritating. And yeah, the Force basically being like, what, aliens? That's stupid. Anakin being Space Jesus is stupid. But, y'know.... again, for all that, i think it was basically a good movie, and it's issues didn't seem much greater to me than those of A New Hope.
