Better than the shitfest that was The Force Awakens? The Force Awakens was a great movie (unless you're trying to circlejerk it). It was a well-crafted character story, and after the prequels, that's all it had to be. Rogue One was inferior to The Force Awakens on every level.

I thought it was a fun movie to watch, but it really annoyed me. It was repeating A New Hope and the acting from the black dude was pretty bad. Wasn't too sold on the characters, either. I knew jack shit about the two main characters past. Oh well. Not gonna rant, but I will see Rogue One this weekend probly.

I think a big problem with a lot of people is that they are heralding Star Wars as a masterpiece of modern art, they say that Star Wars is this grand space drama with a deep story - which it isn't. Star Wars is fun space adventures with likeable characters. And TFA was masterfully done as exactly that: Fun adventures with likeable characters. Rogue One has even more fan service and rehashing of plot elements though, rest assured.

This may sound like a weird thing to bring up but it always bothered me in KOTOR that the Duro's sounded so fucking different in KOTOR 2 compared to KOTOR 1. None of the other alien races sound different, what's the hold up?

My heart hurts every time I come across Star Wars merchandise and see the little Disney logo on the bottom these days.

My heart hurts every time I come across Star Wars merchandise and see the little Disney logo on the bottom these days. Eh, my heart aches far more when I think of what good old George did.

So I just got back from seeing Rogue One. Good movie... if you're already a big Star Wars fan. Not sure how someone who isn't really into the franchise would think of it, but I'd give the movie about a 7.5 or maybe an 8. The action scenes are freakin' awesome. Like the final battle at the end? Spectacular. Didn't really feel all that much for the characters though, except for K-S20, the Imperial security droid. He was pretty cool. Speaking of characters, Grand Moff Tarkin, the guy in command of the Death Star in Episode 4, makes his surprising reappearance in the movie. Surprising because Peter Cushing, the actor who played him, died some time ago and they brought him back with some really awful, uncanny CGI. Like whenever he was onscreen it was really obvious and unsettling. It happens again sometime near the end of the movie and it isn't any better that time, either. Now for some spoilers... like, major spoilers, so don't look if you intend to watch... They actually killed off the entire cast. I wasn't sure they would, but they did, and I like that they did. Also, seeing Darth Vader tear through the Rebel troopers at the end? Holy shit, easily one of the highlights of the movie, even if it was a short sequence. It felt like they went a bit overboard with call-backs and fanservice at some points. For example, early on some of the main characters run into a couple of jackasses in the street and they have a short little stare down as they pass... and it's the two guys from the cantina in A New Hope. Remember "I have the death sentence in 12 systems" guy? Yup. Him and his buddy. At one point a character from Admiral Ackbar's species shouts "It's a trap!" Also, that other CGI character I mentioned? Princess Leia. It doesn't work for her any better than it does for Tarkin. They really didn't need her to appear at all, really, even given how they ended it. So yeah, like I said, you'll definitely enjoy this movie if you're already a big fan of Star Wars. If not, well, you might consider giving this a pass. I enjoyed it though.

Was K-S20 somewhat like the legendary HK47 like I assumed?

Was K-S20 somewhat like the legendary HK47 like I assumed? Eh... at times, a little, but for the most part not really.

So I just came back from seeing Rogue One... Holy shit the more I think about it this movie was literally a recreation of Halo Reach. Think about it, a new group of heroes is tasked with basically setting off the entire storyline of their series, and all slowly die over the course of the story. Fuck I NEVER remember Star Wars making me this depressed so I gotta hand it to Gary Whitta and the other writers here. Who knew a former Telltale writer could tell such a great Star Wars story?
K2 and Bodi were probably my favorite characters, and it was so fucking depressing to see K2 die like that. I think it was when Chiro (the blind guy) died when I started to think everyone but Jyn would die, but then they went ahead and killed fucking everyone! Way to traumatize kids around the world, Disney!
Rock I gotta agree with you on how unsettling CGI Tarkin was. Compared to everyone else it didn't really look realistic, though surprisingly Leia did to me. And yeah, I noticed all those little easter eggs you pointed out. There's also one where two stormtroopers are taking about how the D15s are being recalled, which are known in Star Wars lore to have incredibly bad accuracy, which is why in the original trilogy they could barely hit anything.
Honestly I think this movie was just as good as Ep. VII. If the Han Solo and Boba Fett movies are anything like this, I can't wait for them.

So... Uh... I know it's a little late... But I just watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Great movie: I loved the characters in the movie. Finn, Rey, Po, Han, Chewy... GOD, Chewy had a better role in this movie than in any of his other appearances. He actually had character beyond big scary monster man. I never really cared for Chewy before this movie, but now I fucking love him. I'm super curious to see what Luke has to say, to see what kind of person Snope or whatever his name was really is going after. I'm curious to see just how quickly Ren goes back to the light side, since he's obviously WAYYY weaker in his convictions than Vader was. I'm curious to see if Han is TRULY dead. I'm so curious. What an effective intro episode. Better than any TTG episode 1.

I didn't see no fridge to climb into To be fair, Luke survived essentially the same thing in episode 5. Luke wasn't impaled by a giant ass lightsaber, and the cloud city planet thing wasn't blown up seconds afterwards
