I'm excited too. I'm a big Star Wars though, so it's not a surprise that I'll be seeing it.

Strange thing to bring up but seeing how Forrest Wittacker's character is from the Clone Wars show, and his character showed up during the Onderon story ark. Does that mean Onderon is canon still? Because if so FUCK YEAH! I always loved that planet from KOTOR 2.

I've never seen the three prequels so I set out a goal to watch Phantom Menace this weekend in the hopes of seeing all three by the time Rogue One comes out. Didn't watch.

So I'm through Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. I didn't mind Phantom Menace, but Clones.....
what an ENORMOUS pile of dogshit. Honestly, I know a lot of people hate Hayden Christensen, but I think he did exactly what they set out to do. Make young Darth Vader an unbelievably creepy, rape-y, angsty teen filled with hate. It's just that it's so fuckin' painful to watch unfold. Padme loving him makes no fucking sense. He's like god damn Hannibal Lectre on the creepiness scale.
And how the FUCK did they think it was acceptable to name Jar Jar Binks a General in the army and then follow it up by naming him to the mother fucking SENATE? GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE.

True, Clones is by FAR the worst movie in the entire series. I put up with Phantom Menace, and I LOVE Revenge of the Sith, but I rewatched Clones before The Force Awakens came out, and GOD was is hard to watch! The only saving graces of that movie were the opening with Zam Wessel, the Obi-Wan/Jango fight on Kamino, and then the ending fight on Geonosis.

Thing is though, he's not supposed to be unbelievably creepy or rape-y. They're both supposed to really love each other with it all going tits up when Anakin is seduced to the Dark Side. The "romantic" scenes are complete cringe all the way around. I'll agree though that the hate toward Christiansen is mostly unwarranted. The guy isn't a bad actor, the prequel scripts are just shit for the most part. Even Natalie Portman and Samuel L. Jackson couldn't really save very much of it. The only one who did a good (Actually, great) job is Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan.

The actors weren't bad, for the most part, just the awful writing and directing. At least we got Obi-Wan.

Alright. I watched the movie tonight at work, and afterwards went to the midnight premiere in Frankfurt (original english version). Some spoiler free thoughts:
It is a solid movie. Well-crafted, high production values, great choreographed action all the way through. It does not live up to the hype surrounding it though, in my opinion. It is inferior to TFA in almost all aspects in my opinion.
The movie suffers from pacing problems, especially in the first half. The characters are introduced too quickly, and after the team assembled, the second act of the movie becomes a crawl. I failed to connect with any of the characters, sadly. Felicity Jones does a decent job with the material given to her. The movie focuses on these group of characters, but it doesn't give them time to shine, to breathe, to really connect with each other in a way that feels organic.
The third act then again shifts gears and delivers a glorious finale with great visuals. The problem here is that since I didn't really care about the characters, I wasn't on the edge of my seat watching them overcome the various obstacles in their way. There is a lot of shoehorned fanservice as well, and I'm sure that a lot of Star Wars fanboys will cheer when they recognize certain things.
Still, the movie is enjoyable. The worldbuilding is executed well enough to be engaging. There are lots of funny quips and gags throughout the movie that made me chuckle. The finale is somewhat surprising and even though it has some cringe-inducing dialogue and feels cliché'd at times, it is still very well paced and told.
I can recommend it to people who generally like the Star Wars universe, and to people who like action movies. Don't expect anything revolutionary, but it is entertaining and definitely not a waste of your money and time.
