idk I didn't think it looked dull, but I think it needs polish. Like, the combat looks solid in theory, but the animations really need work. Same for how Bayek clips into rock wall when you try to climb them. Aaaand I'm not sure how I feel about the whole RPG thing. idk, my hype has died a little, but I'm still expecting this to be the best AC game since Black Flag. Huh, I've been questioning my hype for Odyssey a little bit, wondering if it's just part of the AC hype cycle and not really remembering if I reacted the same way or not when Origins was revealed but... nope, I actually was underwhelmed with Origins right from the start. Meanwhile, I can't get Odyssey out of my head.

10. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (3) - UhOh! Unpopular opinion! Brotherhood is a bad game! Alert the game police, there is a warrant out for my arrest now, and I have to go on the run! Anyway.... this game sucks. It's boring, the characters are forgettable, the story moves nothing forward either in the past or present, and it's just such a fuc-i mean, frickin slog(is... is that better?). Just, flat out, it wasn't fun to play, and that just cripples it completely for me. 1. Assassin's Creed: Black Flag (10) - Yeah, nothing touches this in terms of gameplay. Syndicate is close in terms of story, but Black Flag wins out by having better pacing. Honestly, what more needs to be said about this game? It's just incredible. Kenway is the best AC character ever, both the villains and supporting cast are great, piloting the Jackdaw is great, exploring is great, the story is great... it's all fantastic. About the only bad thing is the excessive escort missions, but honestly, that's a small issue compared to how amazing the rest of the game is. My favorite by a long shot.I see you are a woman of culture. tbh i still don't really know what this means

Anyway, sorry for all these posts in a row, but one last thing:
I've been replaying AC Syndicate in anticipation of Odyssey, and not only does it really hold up as my second favorite AC game, but I think it's fun how you can see how a lot of the stuff in Odyssey has roots in Syndicate. The 300 people conquer battles are clearly an extension of the gang wars from Syndicate, Syndicate was the most involved with romantic subplots (Jacob's crush on Pearl, his tragic short-lived romance with Maxwell Roth, and Evie's awkward flirting with Henry), having a male and female protagonist, the story changing very slightly based on your choices(cut-scenes would change based on if you played as Evie or Jacob), the Nation Power system seems similar to how districts were conquered in Syndicate, etc.
Anyway, if Syndicate weren't so rushed near the end, and if it had something to equal the naval combat of Black Flag, it probably would've been my favorite AC game by a long shot. As it is, replaying Syndicate has me even more hyped for Odyssey bc it's from the same writers and dev team, and Odyssey looks like it's going to have a polished version of Origins' combat, naval combat from Black Flag, expand on a lot of the mechanics from Syndicate, and do it's own thing with dialogue choices, a branching story, a more involved Modern Day storyline, and superpowers from the Spear of Leonidas. I'm so hyped...

I've yet to play it (The Greedy Jew inside me is waiting for the GOTY Edition), but I love the system. And I agree, more RPGs like AC need the Nemesis system. Just give it a different name and no one will notice right? RIGHT?lol what the fuck Sonic why it's not the worst thing he said

The main theme is pretty great. It's by The Flight, who did the soundtracks for Alien: Isolation and Horizon Zero Dawn.

All the questions and answers from the Reddit AMA with Creative Director Jonathan Dumont:
https://www.reddit.com/r/assassinscreed/comments/8svecl/all_the_questions_and_answers_in_the_jonathan/
Short versions of the answers:
-Every player will experience the Modern Day sections, but based on their choices, players who want to will be able to spend more time in the Modern Day.
-The game will have a reversible cover, with one side featuring Alexios and the other Kassandra
-Sets of armor can be found close together in the game world and will grant set bonuses
-No progress tracker
-There will be dynamic weather, specifically sailing through storms is a fully flesh out game mechanic
-Animations are unfinished, should look a lot better by launch
-Many romance options and romance choices are not separate to the main story, they have as much impact as anything else
-Odyssey will have more content than Origins
-The main lore connections are the story of how First Civ artifacts formed the conflict between Assassin's and Templars even before those specific groups truly existed(i.e. what Mel Macourbey said elsewhere about the story focusing on the conflict between freedom and order), and continuing the story of Layla Hassan from AC Origins
-You can pet and tame a variety of animals, but the only cats are big cats (my own sidenote: I never actually tamed animals in AC Origins. That's an entire mechanics I never engaged in)
-A novel by Gordon Doherty that tells the events of the game's story from Kassandra's perspective is the "canon" version of events.
-You can't use a shield. Social Stealth is not a part of ACOD and Dumont said he can't speak of the future of stealth in the series.
-There are other Pieces of Eden beside the Spear of Leonidas in the story, but Dumont wants us to experience them first hand.
-No character customization options outside of armor. Armor color is set except for hoods, which will always match the color of your armor.
-There are more "realistic" abilities in the game. What was shown at E3 was on the more fantastical end.
-Parkour puzzle tombs like the ones in the Ezio trilogy are finally returning.
-There is no online multiplayer component to the mercenary system, it only affects NPCs and the player.
-You can't unlock the entire skill tree, but there will be options to re-spec so it's possible to try out all the abilities
-There are 7 distinct biome types
-About research: "We visited Greece to see the country first-hand, understand the topography and get a feel for the culture. We studied up on archaeological research and read ancient and contemporary authors of the classical period. We also hired on a historical specialist of Ancient Greece, Stephanie-Anne Ruatta, who has been instrumental in helping us recreate Ancient Greece and who we run our decisions past to make sure they are as historically accurate as possible."
- The writing was a team effort, but Jonathan Dumont and Melissa MacCoubrey are the lead writers. (both worked primarily on AC Syndicate)
-You can upgrade your ship, but naval combat is not as central to the game as it was in Black Flag. It is also "more accessible and arcadey". (reminder, this is the dev team that gave us horse-drawn carriages that can ram and sideswipe other horse-drawn carriages in Syndicate)
-Parkour has been tweaked and polished, and like in Origins you can climb basically anything
-The overall map is bigger than Origins' but about half is sea.
-There are references to previous games.
-Your choices will impact the ending, and different quests will end differently based on your choices as well
-Sex scenes will not be explicit. It's also possible to fail at romancing a character. (an example of this leaked from the demo, when romancing Thalateus, the male love-interest, if you tell him you want a three-way with him and Kyra, he will reject and you won't have another chance to romance him)
-There is a "Call to Arms" ability that commands your crew to fight or distract enemies
He didn't answer any questions about the database, which... I don't know, maybe that's a good sign? If they weren't doing one, he'd just say no, right? Anyway, some interesting stuff from the AMA.

Question, how is it a follow up to Origins if its about 200 years before? 400 years, actually. It follows up the MD storyline with Layla, for one, and according to the narrative director, Melissa MaCroubrey, whereas Origns was the origin story of the Assassin and Templar orders, Odyssey will explore the idea of freedom and order and how they apply to human nature and society, essentially the origin story of the ideologies that are the basis of the Assassin and Templar orders. Umm can I just say how silly that sounds? The origin of freedom and order came from ancient Greece back in 400 B.C.? Then what the fuck was going on in ancient Mesopotamia? A bit odd but I'm sure it will sound better in game then on paper.

Side note playing that game in the dead of night with a good headset after reading the Cases that Haunt us which had all the info on the real murders was amazing.

What does having seven biomes even mean for a game with zero procedurally generated content? A biome in games like dwarf fortress or Minecraft exists to give variety to the procedural content, and make a more likely world. Does this mean there will be seven locations, or that they're going to copy and paste content from seven different pools, depending on the biome?
