So has anyone else here played this game? It's an oldie (reeeaaaal old, released back in 1999 IIRC) but it's awesome. In fact, Bioshock was created as a spiritual successor to this game. It's a sci-fi survival horror game that, even though I'm not into horror, really captures me. Essentially, you start off as a member of the military (a Marine, Naval Technician, or a member of the Psi-Ops are the classes you get to choose from during the prologue) assigned to guard a Starship known as the Von Braun on its maiden voyage. Things go south pretty quickly, as they usually do on maiden voyages, and six months after an unknown disaster you wake up in the aftermath of the carnage and need to piece together exactly what happened to the crew in an extremely hostile environment. If you haven't played it, it's available on Steam for $10 and I give it a recommendation. Even though it's 15 years old it runs just find on Windows 8. In fact, I'm starting a new playthrough right now. I just thought I'd make this thread in case anyone else has played this classic and wants to discuss it.

Well, like I said it's on Steam for $10, and I really think it's worth it. Right now, I'm going through the game with a badass Naval Officer. I joined the Marines in my first playthrough, but I'm liking this guy a lot more.

Oh yeah, I had to because, well, it was the first ever game by Irrational Games, by favorite game studio, and the first game project by Ken Levine, oh and yeah it did inspire Bioshock to a extent, hell yeah! What a game, I mean, I do slightly prefer Bioshock, but damn if this is not incredible for 1999, I mean it still holds up very well, and I dare say its gets creepier as time goes on, also does it work on Windows 7?

Do you remember the first three tours of duty you had your guy pick in the prologue? My Naval Officer was the navigator on a heavy cruiser for his first year, participated in some combat training at a base in Florida for his second, and attended the Survival School on Io for his third tour. It's little things like that that make me love SS2. Instead of simply assigning stats, your guy has to pick his assignments and get training from them before he becomes The Hero on the Von Braun.

I think it was pretty similar to yours, and yeah I LOVE that, seriously the amount of detail in just picking stats is just wonderful, and of course, the original Glados before Glados, many say SS2 was better then SS1, and I agree, and SS1 is still one of the best Looking Glass games up there with Thief 1 and 2.

I never played SS1, but SS2 is awesome. On my current playthrough I just made it to Deck 4 where things begin to go down.
Also, even though you never get to talk to him in person, I think Diego is a total badass for, well, the spoilerish stuff he did that I won't say for those who haven't yet played.

Oh yeah, total badass, and the audio logs are a nice touch, I always liked that way of storytelling for some reason, it just works.

SS1 is pretty good, not much to really complain about, SS2 improves on it, like adding a better interface and better graphics, and most importantly, a better box art, I can't stress how bad the box art for SS1 is, it doesn't help its cause in the slightest, which is funny because Ken Levine thought the same thing, the box art was shit, and yet it's his favorite game, hence why he did SS2.
