I liked the tone and art of the original series more. That opening sequence of their human transmutation was really well-directed and the music was fantastic (Bratja particularly stands out). Eh, I don't feel anything when I remember the original series. It just had a really darker tone, especially towards the latter half of the series. Many characters story arcs ended abruptly, when they were more fleshed out in Brotherhood. Don't get me wrong, the 2003 series was still entertaining to watch, but I just liked the overall feel of Brotherhood better. Wait, I thought Brotherhood was supposed to be the darker one?

Nah, the 2003 version was the one that had a darker tone. Brotherhood has more of a mellow and optimistic feel to it.
