So I had this idea for Batman Season Two and nothing even close to it will ever happen but I just kind of want to share it.
So. First off, as I thought of it, I realized it'd have to be formatted way differently than any other Telltale Series. I mean, maybe it could be five episodes, but it works better as three acts, each about 3-4 hours.
Four playable characters: Dick Grayson/Robin/Nightwing, Jason Todd/Red Hood, Barbara Gordon/Batgirl/Oracle, and Bruce Wayne/Batman.
Episode One:
Haley's circus is in town, Bruce is in the audience, the flying Graysons die because the line was weakened with acid. Dick Grayson's basic origin story, but with a twist. At some point in the opening scene, we see a hand in a purple glove weakening the ropes. From the wrist, we can tell the person is very, very pale. (also maybe Bruce is on a date or something, probably not with Selina though). Also, maybe Joker goons attack the tent once it's in chaos because obligatory action scene if this was really Telltale, but ideally this is just a cold open.
Don't have the details, but basically, Bruce let's Dick stay at the manor. Switch scene at this point to Babs. Bruce is hosting a charity galla or something at the manor, and as Commissioner, Jim is expected to attend. Babs is coming too. Don't know the details, but basically Babs and Dick meet at the Galla. Maybe the first major choice is something between the two of them(or maybe earlier between Dick and Bruce). By the way, I imagine Dick and Babs are both about 16-18.
Babs and Dick kind of wander away from where all the people are. Somehow they discover the batcave. I imagine the pacing would pick up here and things would move along quicker. Bruce doesn't find out they know. Maybe Dick has a choice to steal some things from the Batcave because Dick and Babs at this point are both on their way to becoming Robin and Batgirl. I mean, the first episode would be a lot of setting stuff up, but I imagine a little more than halfway through, Bats discovers them and what they're doing. Depending on previous choices or maybe just what's said during a conversation between Bats, Babs, and Robin, Babs could possibly be completely shut out(not a major consequence aside form maybe slightly affects Babs and Bruce's relationship. However, that wouldn't really happen with Dick because... Okay, just thought of something as I was typing this:
Another major choice: Babs can tell Batman is she knows he's Bruce Wayne or not. This is what determines if he shuts her out or is ind of forced to bring her in. Dick would just say no matter what that he knows Bruce is Bats.
Anyway, more drama happens, nearing the end of the episode. By the way, I imagine the big overarching thing is that the Joker is fully coming into his own as a villain and is on some sort of crime-spree, gaining followers and notoriety throughout Gotham. So like how in S1 the default bat guys in most fights were the CoA, in this it would be Joker followers. Also maybe random gangsters as Black Mask is filling the power vacuum Falcone's death left(more on that in Part 2).
I imagine if Bruce shuts Babs out form everything, the final scene with her would be her donning the more classic blue/grey batgirl suit and going out on her own. (her suit for most of the episode would be the gray with blue cap/mask. Then the new suit she'd make herself would have the blue cowl rather than just a little mask). If Bruce brings her in, he reluctantly gives her a suit reminiscent of the New 52 suit(black/yellow, armored look).
With Dick, he'd either be fully under Bruce's wing and become Robin(a new version. Maybe take Damien's hood, Tim's wings, I don't know but there have been some cool Robin costume designs over the years so they've got a lot to work with), or he'd be out on his own looking for his parent's killer(suit would probably just be whatever he had for the rest of the episode, a more classic robin costume I suppose). Bruce would protest, saying that if Dick is going to do this, he should at least have training from Batman, but Dick would either say he needs to be his own man, or he'd be angry and dismissive. Don't know what that would depend on, though.
Also, to tie in with Season one, if Bruce removed the cowl in Ep 5 and generally was more Bruce than Batman, then he'll still protest to what Babs and Dick are doing, but he'd be more worried than angry and would generally not be as harsh. Also, I imagine if Babs tells him that she knows he's Bruce, he'd like sigh and take the cowl off during the conversation and talk to both of them as Bruce. If he was more Batman/didn't remove the cowl, then he'll be harsher and always talk to them as Batman, not Bruce. Also, Alfred's eye/Bruce's ear as a cosmetic thing. And maybe depending on how you acted as Bruce/your level of violence as Batman, Gordon will make a few comments about that. And maybe some token acknowledgement of who Bruce decides to fund at the end of episode 5. If you fund Arkham, then Black Mask and his goons will be presented as a bigger problem, if you fund the police, then Joker and his followers will be presented as the bigger problem. In reality, Joker is still the main villain, but maybe Gordon will say something.
Episode Two:
Open with Jason Todd, a homeless orphan living on the street. Along with Joker and his growing influence, Black Mask is now running organized crime in Gotham, filling the power vacuum that was left with Falcone's death in Season 1. Jason is cornered by Black Mask's thugs/Joker's followers(choice would depend on if Arkham or the Police have funding. If Bats showed up to Gordon's address then it's Joker's followers), he fights them but is surrounded, until Batman swoops in to save him. Jason can choose to be grateful or bitter(bitter that Bats often ignores what happens on the streets of Gotham's worst neighborhoods or something). Bats and Jason maybe have a short back and forth before Bats leaves.
Depending on Episode One, Dick and Babs are both on their own as a team, they're both being trained by Batman, or only one of them is. Regardless, the next scene is them on a rooftop, out fighting crime. The conversation would be pretty different depending on any of those variables. I don't know specifics but I'm sure you can imagine. Don't know who would be playable in this scene. They'd talk about the situation(examples: "we don't need the bat", "I wish Bruce would let you join"/"Why didn't you train with Bruce?", or something about how hard Batman is pushing them if they're both training with him). One of the would get intel from Batman/Babs would hear something on police radio(because of course she hacked in). Black Mask is robbing a bank or something and Joker's followers have taken hostages somewhere. They can then choose where to go first. If both are alone, they can split up or go for the same target(assuming Batman or the police can handle the other one). If Robin is with Bats then Robin can tell him he's bringing Batgirl with him(Bats protests, but begrudgingly agrees to handle the other one) or just tell Batman he's coming and Batgirl will go for the other target. If Batgirl is with Bats then he'll ask if Robin is with her, she can say yes and they'll both take one target(Bats gets the other), or say no and they'll split up. If they're both with Bats then they can take one target while Bats takes the other, or they can split up and Bats will go with one and tell Gordon to back up the other. (to be clear, in any scenario in which Bats is involved and they split up, he'll tell Gordon to backup whoever he's not backing up)
Now, for all of those branching options, I imagine that choice would have basically no consequence because to give each branch of that choice lasting consequence would be insane. It'll pretty much only affect the next scene and nothing else.
Anyway, get a bit of an action sequence with whoever. Todd happens upon the commotion(by contrivance, whichever one Batman is at) and having met that Batman earlier will decide he wants to be a bit of a hero and basically he ends up saving Batman's life or something. Batman and the rest leave, after the whole thing is wrapped up, but there's a lot of damage. Possibly someone is hurt.
A while later, Jason decides he wants to meet with Batman. He climbs to the roof of the GCPD and turns on the Bat signal just to talk. He realizes how bad the city is getting, being hit by both Black Mask and The Joker, and he offers to help. His argument being that he can help on the street, keep people safe. Batman says no. As he leaves to another rooftop, either Batgirl or Robin(or both) are there waiting for him. They can either say it's a good idea to let Jason join, or not. Regardless, whether he's working with Batman or not, Jason Todd becomes Red Hood.
(sidenote: yes I know that name has a lot to do with The Joker but Telltale didn't give Joker the Red Hood origin story in Season 1 so it doesn't matter if Jason uses that name before or after he encounters the Joker. It's what he's called in the comics so of course he'll be called Red Hood in this. Maybe he has a Red Hoodie and then some lame cloth mask or something that's also Red. Or an actual mask if Batman lets him join but but still the red hood).
So, Jason either teams up with Bats or not based on how Bats was in Season 1, input from Batgirl and Robin, and if Batgirl and Robin are working with him already(if they are he's more likely to welcome Red Hood to the team).
At this point, there will be three major plot beats to get to but I'm not sure in which order.how it will be paced/most of the details so I'm listing them in order of Robin, Red Hood, Batgirl, but like I said, I don't know.
So with Robin, if he's working with Bats, he's wondering if he still needs to be under Batman's shadow. He starts to question if he should start to be his own man a bit. Maybe he talks to Bruce about it, I don't know. But basically, there will be a choice to remain Robin and continuing training under the Batman if he thinks he's not ready to take the next step to being a super hero, or, to become Nightwing. He gets a new suit(courtesy of Lucius) and his signature escrima sticks(the electrified ones because those are cooler). Also: blue suit. Not Red. And no wings.
If Dick is already not working with Batman, then he starts to see that people are still seeing Batman and Robin as a team and Babs helps him with the new Nightwing costume. Probably not as cool as the Lucius Nightwing suit, maybe a slightly different design(still blue). He'd have the escrima sticks, but not electrified, and no gadgets, but he'd be taking another step away from Batman.
With Jason, it'd basically be up to the player how violent they want to be as him. I imagine in the second half of the episode, Jason takes down Red Hood. However, in doing this, he can be very violent(breaking bones, crippling people, even using a gun), or try to be more restrained(he's still the most brutal of them unless you played Batman as being really brutal in Season 1). Batman calls him out on it(either threatening to kick him off the team or threatening to take him into custody(in fact, if Jason is being really brutal and isn't on the team, maybe Batman does try to take him in and there's a fight with Bats where Jason had to lose him, running across rooftops and stuff).
I imagine throughout episode one and two it would have been established that Batgirl is very studious(I mean, for any gameplay bits, I imagine the detective scenes with the tech could kind of be replaced with Babs using he eidetic memory? I mean, it'd be really cool if I got into the specifics of this to think of some scenes where she uses her eidetic memory), and so maybe she has to choose between staying Batgirl or putting away the costume for a bit as she goes to college in Burnside(because it needs at least one callout). She can choose to stay Batgirl and try to lead a double life, or put away the costume for a while.
These story beats and choices would have major consequences for the third episode:
I don't know if I want to put these scenes at the end of episode two or the beginning of episode three, but I think the various versions of episode three will be so different that I'll have to make a different summary for each of them so I'll put the consequences of in their own little section here:
Basically, Joker hurts/kills Dick/Jason/Babs based on the choices.
Robin: In any scenario where Dick is still Robin, Joker kidnaps him and shoots him on live television for the entirety of Gotham city to see.
Red Hood: If Red Hood is working with Batman and decides to kill Black Mask, then Joker lures him into a trap and beats him to death with a crowbar.
Batgirl: If Babs decides to retire the costume then Joker shows up at Gordon's house, shoots Barbara through the spine, paralyzing her, and kidnaps Commissioner Gordon.
Some of these can conflict, so it would also be influenced by points. So, for example, if only one of these requirements is met, then that's the ending that plays out, no matter what. But say for example, if all are met, but you made more choices for Red Hood to be violent than for Babs to question the vigilante life or for Dick to be close to Bruce, then the Red Hood ending plays out. If no requirements are met, then same thing. It would be based on smaller choices that would build up to it. So there'd be smaller choices throughout Ep 1 and 2 for Batgirl to consider not being a vigilante, or for Dick to get closer to Bruce and stay under his wing, etc. Whichever of these happens basically creates a totally different episode 3.
Episode Three(Robin is Dead):
Batgirl, Batman, and Red Hood put all of their efforts into hunting down the Joker. It would be acknowledged if Babs retired the costume or Red Hood wasn't working with Batman, but it's a crisis so they all team up(same for any episode 3). I really don't have any of the specifics here, but basically, once Batman finds and stops the Joker, he starts beating him to a pulp. Batgirl has a choice to stop him or not. If Batgirl stops him, then Joker is sent to Arkham. It's revealed that Joker was secretly broadcasting the whole thing(again), but Gotham saw Batman show restraint, even when his sidekick was killed. Gotham has faith in Batman. Either Batgirl remains Batgirl(if she wasn't being trained by Batman before, then he welcomes her), but if she decided to retire the costume, then she does. Batman will welcome Red Hood if he showed restrained more often than not in Episode 2(Red Hood can accept or decline), but if he was violent, then he's still a criminal as far as Batman is concerned.
If Batgirl doesn't stop Batman, then even as he's dying, Joker starts laughing. As he's choking on his own blood, he says "smile" and points at the camera secretly broadcasting everything before he dies. Gotham loses its faith in Batman. He can quietly retire, in which case either Batgirl and Red Hood, or just Red Hood, become the protectors of Gotham(the darkest ending I suppose is where only a homicidal Red Hood is "protecting" Gotham), or he can refuse to retire, even as most of the city turns on him. Batman becomes a fugitive of the GCPD, who is also hunting down the vigilante Red Hood. Even if Batgirl decided in Episode 2 to continue being Batgirl, she won't in this ending.
There might possibly be a tease at the end showing Grayson alive, and hinting that in the future he might pick up the mantle of Agent 37 of Spyral(or at least some similar elements from that story if not the whole "Agent 37" thing).
I'm sure I can think of more stuff to flesh this out a lot more, but all I've got right now is the ending.
Episode Three(Red Hood is Dead):
(Just in case I wasn't clear, this version only happens if Red Hood was working with Batman)
Batman, Nightwing(Robin), and Batgirl arrive at the trap Joker set for Red Hood only to find his dead body. They decide that they need to work together to bring down the Joker.
Again, I don't have many details. At some point, Red Hood's body is stolen from wherever he was buried. Reports of a serial killer in Gotham are on the rise, but it doesn't look like the work of the Joker or his followers, in fact, this killer seems to be targeting Joker as much as anyone else. Batman puts together that the only people killed are the few left of Black Mask's organization, Joker followers, and other criminals(it's then we get the "no, it can't be" moment).
This goes on for a bit, maybe even a fight with the new Red Hood(who wouldn't look much like either version of the previous Red Hood). Eventually, Red Hood finds Joker first, but Batman and his allies aren't far behind. You get the typical Batman vs. Red Hood confrontation and then it's revealed that it's Jason. Joker reveals he found something beneath the city(Lazarus pit), and decided to do something to make Gotham more interesting(revive Jason Todd). Depending on how brutal you were as Red Hood, things change. Nightwing tries to stop him, and if you were very brutal as Jason in Episode 2, Jason shoots him. Batgirl saves Nightwing, and Bats is left to confront Jason alone.
Batman can choose to talk him down, or fight him. If Batman fights him, then Joker is killed by Red Hood in the fight, and Jason escapes. The episode ends with Red Hood still at large, and an enemy of the Bats. Dick is Nightwing no matter what, and depending on her relationship with Dick(I didn't mention this before but I imagine at some point there'd be a choice for Dick and Babs to be more than friends), Babs decides to delay going to Burnside and instead stays in Gotham with Dick(who is seriously injured btw). This is separate from her choice to be Batgirl or not. If Dick is injured and she's very close to him, then she'll stay in Gotham, either as just Barbara Gordon or as Barbara and Batgirl. If Dick isn't injured or he is but they aren't that close, then she moves to Burnside, either as just Barbara Gordon or as Barbara and Batgirl.
If Batman talks Jason down, then Joker lives(and goes to Arkham Asylum), and we get the typical Red Hood relationship to the rest of the Bat Family. He's an ally, but he's not that close to everyone because he's willing to kill. Batgirl moves to Burnside and either retires the costume or not, and Dick becomes Nightwing. If Dick and Babs are in a romantic relationship, then maybe Dick moves to Burnside with her, I don't know. (also something I want to mention, in any ending to any version of episode three where Babs moves to Burnside and becomes Batgirl, she has the Batgirl of Burnside costume(purple leather jacket/cowl, yellow cape/gloves/boots)
Episode Three(Batgirl is Paralyzed, Becomes Oracle):
Gordon is missing, and Bats decides to work with Red Hood and Nightwing/Robin to find him and end the Joker's reign of terror. Pretty early in the episode Babs is released from the hospital and shows up at the manor, requesting to see the Batcomputer. If Bruce didn't know by this point that Babs knew he was Batman then she tells him and insists to see the Batcomputer. At this point, she becomes Oracle, organizing the search for Gordon and Joker. If she was working with Batman in previous episodes, then Lucius is able to modify an armored Batgirl suit into a drone that she can control from the Bat computer(purple/yellow color scheme, similar to Batgirl of Burnside comics costume). If not, then she simply takes control of a drone.
Again, I don't have a lot of the details sorted out, but I imagine they do eventually find Joker. There's probably a lot of cool stuff that could happen with Oracle and the Batgirl drone, seeing how Red Hood and Nightwing disagree in how to hunt down the Joker, the whole team reacting to Barbara's injury, etc.
Anyway, eventually they could find the Joker. Gordon is rigged to some deathtrap with the roller coaster(final confrontation happens in the abandoned amusement park), and Bats leaves to deal with that. Red Hood, Nightwing/Robin, and Oracle are left to deal with Joker. Red Hood wants to kill him, Nightwing argues that they shouldn't. Batgirl and side with one of them, or tell them to stop arguing and she makes her own choice.
Either Red Hood kills Joker, Barbara shoots him with the drone, Red Hood gives the Batgirl drone a gun to shoot him, or the Batgirl drone strangles him. In any ending where the Batgirl drone kills Joker, Nightwing doesn't stop her, but he does walk away, disappointed. He doesn't really have time to do anything if the drone or Red Hood shoots Joker. In all of these endings Red Hood takes the blame. Batman kicks him off the team if he was on it, and he becomes a fugitive from Batman, the law, and Nightwing. Nightwing distances himself from Barbara, disappointed by what she choose to do. She can try to justify it to him, and he'll say he understands, but that things can't be like they were before. If Barbara decided to be Batgirl, then she continues to be Oracle and operate her own version of the batcomputer on a smaller scale. If not, then she leaves Batman's team, leaving only Nightwing. Either way, she moves to Burnside.
If Oracle decides to let The Joker live, then he is sent to Arkham. If Red Hood was part of the team, then he remains part of the team. If not, then he may be invited to join if he wasn't too brutal(he can accept or decline), but if he was too brutal then Batman thanks him for his help, but tells him he's still a criminal. Babs either continues to be Oracle in Burnside, or retires that identity as well. If she and Dick were close, then maybe he moves to Burnside with her, with both of them being part of a crime fighting team as part of their double lives, or only Dick leading having a secret identity as a superhero.

So... yeah, that's.... a thing, I guess. Tell me what you think. Please. Because I spent way too much time on this and it'd be great to hear some feedback or something.

Episode Three(Robin is Dead):
Episode Three(Red Hood is Dead):
