Always Watching is the movie for the popular youtube series, Marble Hornets. The series that popularized Slenderman, and probably one of the only good Slenderman pieces of fiction.
It stars The Walking Dead's Alexandra Breckenridge(Jessie), Chris Marquette, Jake McDorman, and Doug Jones as The Operator. Directed by James Morgan, and written by Ian Shorr and the original Marble Hornets creators, Joseph Delage and Troy Wagner.
I'm really looking forward to this. I'm going to watch it first thing in the morning. I loved the original series, so I hope this holds up.

So is the movie entirely about Slenderman, or other Creepy Pasta stuff too?

So is the movie entirely about Slenderman, or other Creepy Pasta stuff too? The movie takes place after the original series, and is about The Operator, Marble Hornet's version of Slenderman. To my knowledge, here's the difference: Slenderman: Targets children Has tentacles Only lives in the woods/has some sort of connection to the forest Physically attacks/kills targets Messes with Electronics Attacks those who go into his "territory" The Operator: No preferred target Only inhuman feature is that he does not have a face(and even then, he does have some facial features; you can vaguely make out his nose and eye sockets. this was probably at first due to the low budget of the first season, hence a poor costume, but has since become a defining feature of The Operator against Slenderman) Cannot be seen without a camera/recording device(this has only been pointed out in the movie, but was still a thing in Season 3 of the show) Can manipulate electronics(Slenderman only causes them to stop working, but The Operator can manipulate them to further his goals Marks targets/locations Does not physically attack/kill targets himself Works through proxies(people who do his bidding) to harm and kill Presence causes illness(coughing, hard to breathe) and extreme paranoia Manipulates victims into killing each other through fear and paranoia(only someone who has been exposed to his presence for long amounts of time will become a proxy, but he still manipulates his victims into killing each other) "Infects" people. Some people(Vessels) see him from birth. He targets those that his vessels interact with, and then targets those that the infected interact with; works like a disease Sometimes some weird hybrids are created, for example, in Slender: The Arrival, Slenderman uses proxies, and has a few more similaritieswith The Operator, probably since it was co-written with Joseph Delage, the lead writer for the Marble Hornets Series.

Well, I finished watching the movie, and it was a lot better than I expected. The only thing I could say I disliked were two little parts. One in the beginning, and a larger part at the end that could have larger implications. Also, at times it seems like it's retreading on territory that the Web Series already covered, that it doesn't have a reason to exist.
There's no question that in the Marble Hornets Universe, it holds a much smaller place than the original series. However, I think it narrowly avoids just hitting all the same points the original did by answering a few questions, and giving everyone a little clearer idea of the process that happens. I think the movies subtitle works well; a Marble Hornets Story. The film pretty much goes through the process of what happens to the infected, and answers a few questions, but it's only one story. I'd like to see something new that continues where Season 3 of the show was going, starting to become larger than just a few people being stalked.
However, even if it is just one story in a larger universe, it's much better done than the original. The acting was spot-on, and I liked all the characters. And since the film has such a heavy focus on them, they had to be interesting and believable, and the actors did that better than I expected.
Better production values, a more interesting story, it tells one story in the larger Marble Hornets Universe, but it does that incredibly well.
As for the scare factor.... Marble Hornets has always been about paranoia more than anything else. The bit near the beginning that I did quite like was when watching a tape, Sarah(Alexandra Breckenridge) points out that The Operator is just outside the window(you can barely see him through the curtain). The original series did that as well, but it was never pointed out, and since it wasn't, there are just something incredibly freaky about watching a scene, and then only just realizing that there's something you didn't see there the whole time. It made the viewer paranoid as they watched it, looking for the monster stalking our main characters.
Thankfully, it was only one scene, and I gotta say, they did that whole part just as well as the original if not better.
The original was outright scarier, I think. It used jumpscares a little more than the film, but they did them pretty well. I will say that Always Watching it creepier, and better at making the viewer paranoid. It's got some very, very cool shots, too.
So, as far as being scary... It was scary in a different way. It was creepier, and it did the whole paranoia thing about as well as the original. Overall, it gets a gold star for being a good horror film, and an A+ for being a good Marble Hornets film.
I'd definitely recommend this, both to people who have watched the series and to those who have not.

One more thing: No totheark type stuff. :/
I mean, totheark was really important to the series, and while I didn't expect him/them/it to show up, I would have liked to see more stuff like what was in the original series.
It's different, which is good, but... totheark was really cool, that's where some of the scariest stuff came from. I mean, they did have a little easter egg with the Alex Kralie missing persons poster, they could have done something with totheark. Would have given them a good chance to do some cool video stuff, too, which was one of my favorites parts of the movie, they did the video stuff really well, and if they'd had something totheark-esque, it would have been awesome.

Just copying this from the Marble Hornets thread:
Huh, so this video was posted on the Marble Hornets Facebook page with the message "44"...
Looks like more Marble Hornets stuff is happening, which is great. Because while "Always Watching" was a fantastic movie, it, like most things Marble hornets related, gave more questions than it answers.

Shit, so I found some stuff out. On google, it says, "Pending investigation, this site is not available. are you awake." And now, when I go to the site, below the normal message, it says, "If you have authorized access, please contact the admin at dscott3872@gmail.com" But, that's not it. There's more. By adding any random letters or numbers to the url, it brings up a new page: It's actually a gif, but not important. And, here's the big thing, by opening the image in a new tab, it becomes a little clearer... I'll post more if I find it out.

Things that some other people are saying:
According to the medical files that Jay finds, Alex's Birthday is the 4th of April, so that might explain the whole "44" thing...
The 44 Logo has a tree... so it might have something to do with Rosswood.
The only other thing I'm getting from the video is that it says "play" at one point.
Seems like the most accepted thing to take from this is that this is an announcement of their new series. They said it would be related to Marble Hornets, but not Marble Hornets. So, basically a new story within the same universe. Obviously not called Marble hornets as it probably won't have anything to do with Jay/Alex/Tim pr the original characters.
I imagine that totheark will still be around.
Also, I'm curious how Always Watching will be related.... maybe it will bridge Marble Hornets and 44? I'm really not sure.
