Theorizing about this: The first scene is Rook/Alette's Caravan(although, I assume no matter who survives, Hakon would probably be the leader in that situation) going down the Or... Ore... Uh, the river that will take them to Aberrang, only to discover that that serpent has destroyed it and blocked the way forward.
The second scene... no clue, probably some people who are part of the caravan, but no major characters from the first game...
Third scene with the Horseborn.... I assume the caravan will split again, to keep the multiple POVs thing going. So at least one group goes South, rather than going to Aberrang, and they run into the Horseborn.
Then again, it's snowing, so that would suggest that the Horseborn came North, rather than the caravan going South. Perhaps whatever Darkness it is suffocating the Earth, it's not just coming from the North... Maybe a new POV would be that Horseborn woman? That would be kind of cool.
Then the scene with Hakon and the leader of the Ravens(forgot his name, too). I assume they disagree on something(perhaps Raven guy doesn't want to go to Aberrang, and Hakon does), and they fight. Might be a determinant scene, but given the fact that it's fully animated, maybe not. I don't know, it would be cool if some of the animated scenes were determinant. They certainly have the budget to do that now.
It doesn't give too much way, which is cool. Only shows that there will be a lot more fully animated scenes, and perhaps more voice acting. Then again, the first trailer has voice acting, and there's very little in the actual game. Only Ubin, The governor of Strand, Hakon, and Rook have voice actors. and Rook's VA sounds different than in the first trailer. Also, the VA for Rook in this trailer sounds different as well. To be honest, I really didn't care for any of the voice acting in the first game. They probably just got a better voice actor for Rook. I do really hope that there are a lot of fully animated scenes. I mean, for a rotorscoped game, they really don't show off the animation enough.
Yeah, I agree that the voice acting in the first game wasn't very good. If they got some better voice actors(as it appears they very well may have), then maybe there will be more of it in the game? If they have better voice actors, I certainly wouldn't say no to that. And judging by how vastly the animated scenes here vary, we'll probably be getting a lot more fully animated scenes, so that'll be cool.

Well, played it a bit, and it is pretty fun. I'm kinda confused at the moment with the story but it's interesting anyway. I thought i'd hate the combat system but it's actually pretty cool and all.
Edit: The animation is beautiful.

Edit: The animation is beautiful. The story starts to pick up in Chapter 2. Though, that may just be me. The main character is introduced in Chapter 2, and I prefer that storyline more so than the story with Ubin and the Varl.

An interview with one of the co-creators: www.justgamingthings.com/indie-interviews-the-banner-saga-2/Probably what I'm most excited about, news about animated scenes and voice acting. "We are including far more animated cutscenes in the next game, as well as liberal application of voice acting where appropriate. We have no intention of trying to include voice acting during the dialog portion of the game – we feel that even if we could justify the expense, it would detract from the game. I know that not everyone agrees with this position, but this is how the development team sees it." Also, confirmation that we can import out Banner Saga 1 saves, but that was basically a given. And I'm looking forward to having Bolverk as a playable character(that's what I took away from that one comment, anyway).

Was it @pikablue complaining about the price?

With more info on The Banner Saga 2 incoming, I'm going to change the poll to see where people on the forum will be starting in the second game. I'll try to keep the wording of it spoiler-free.

For the poll, I just went with what I did the first time round, since i'm going to import both of my save files into The Banner Saga 2, and play the game from both endings. I honestly can't stand by one ending or the other as having preferred one or anything like that. Either way, it'll be interesting to see how this changes the story in The Banner Saga 2, and it's good development for either character.

I'm thinking of getting this since I like Turn-based strategy games (I Loved XCOM), but I don't get it. Is the gameplay basically like chess? Because that's what it looks like to me.

I'm thinking of getting this since I like Turn-based strategy games (I Loved XCOM), but I don't get it. Is the gameplay basically like chess? Because that's what it looks like to me. Uh... no, not really like chess. It's pretty easy to get, but kind of hard to master, I guess. I'll try to explain the combat. Basically, there's three main stats. Strength, Defense, and Willpower. A unit's strength is both its attack power and its health. So if it has 7 strength, then it can take 7 damage, and will also deal 7 damage. A unit's defense blocks strength attacks. Basically, you can choose to attack someone's strength or defense. So, say you have 7 strength, and attack someone with 5 strength. They should be dead, but if their armor is 6, then they'll only take 1 damage. For each point higher their armor is, it adds a 10% chance they'll deflect the attack entirely, but if it hits, it will do 1 damage. You can lower someone's defense, but directly attacks it. The damage you do to their defense is based on another stat, break. For each stat in break you have, you'll do that amount of damage to an enemies armor. Willpower is for a number of things. You can use it to move further, or to deal more damage, or to use a special ability. So if you can't quite reach an enemy, you can use some willpower to move a little further. There's also exertion, which is how much willpower you can use. So if you have 2 exertion, then you can move 2 extra spaces, or deal 2 more damage(to strength or defense). Then, outside of combat, you have to make choices, and those can affect your survival. honestly, the survival aspect is a little unrefined. But the choices that affect the story do so on a huge level. I really didn't pay attention to the combat when I played the game. The game is worth playing for its story, characters, art, and everything else alone. Combat pretty much came last to me, but it's quite good. you should definitely play this game, it's incredible. My own personal #1 game of all time right now.
