A re-make of Stephen King's The Stand is currently in progress. It will be directed and written by Josh Boone, and split into four parts, all about 3 hours long, with basically all the money they could want at their expense, thanks to Warner Bros. King himself is very optimistic and excited about the movies, thanks to the, by all accounts, fantastic script Boone wrote when it was only going to be one movie. It had been hinted that Matthew McConaughey will play The Walkin' Dude, Randall Flagg. comicbook.com/2014/11/21/stephen-kings-the-stand-will-be-four-separate-movies/

Yeah well, Stephen King hates the Shining movie, so his opinion isn't always correct.

Yeah well, Stephen King hates the Shining movie, so his opinion isn't always correct. I still haven't seen The Shining. He did mention something in the thing I was looking at about how so many people like The Shining Movie even though it's "horrible", yet even if they haven't seen it, they dislike the mini-series he wrote for The Shining. He said that now he thinks it will be the other way around, and people won't like this movie, and instead, will go back to the miniseries from 1994. I watched the first episode of the miniseries when it was on Netflix, and it was awful. So I'm really hoping that this movie will be good. But I have to agree, it seems unlikely that they'll fit everything into a 3 hour movie. The Stand is much better suited for TV. And one other thing to keep in mind, literary genius he may be, King doesn't know Jack-shit when it comes to film or television, in my experience anyway. He predicted that the re-make of Carrie would be awful next to the original. I've seen both, and the re-make is better. I don't have any opinion on this, but it seems that his opinion that The Shining is a bad movie is an unpopular one. He likes the miniseries for The Stand. I didn't watch the whole thing, but honestly, after seeing how bad the first episode was, I don't want to. He wrote Pet Semetary 2, which was, by all accounts, horrible. The one episode he wrote for Under the Dome wasn't all that good(I'm not sure if he had any control over it, but you had to use CGI to cut a rope? Really? And the whole thing with the Dome being magnetic... just... no) He likes the TV Show for Under the Dome. Under the Dome is, without a doubt, one of the worst TV Shows that I've ever seen. It's a step above Turn, because even though it's bad, at least it's interesting. Turn is bad, and boring. Still, being interesting doesn't make it a good show. It's terrible. Aside from the three main characters, all of the actors are just fucking awful, and even then, none of them do a particularly good job, even Dean Norris(Hank from Breaking Bad). Just... No. I have no idea how anyone can think UtD is any good, but King evidently likes it. So... Yeah.

Yeah I remember the fact he made a mini series because he hated the Stanley Kubrick classic, and it was not good, hell if I remember correctly Nostalgia Critic reviewed it and it was, entertaining let's just say, yeah, he did make it.

Seems like the mini-series is much closer to the book(aside from Jack and Wendy knowing about The Shining, but then again, they kind of did in the book, too). And even if it isn't scarier, that and the fact that, evidently, it does Jack's character better, that'd make it worthwhile in my mind.

I suppose, the original is still really good though.

I don't really expect it to be as good as the book, but really, so long as they don't portray Flagg like the miniseries did: Then I'll be okay with this movie.

Nat Wolff(The Fault in Our Stars) is the first person to be cast for the movie. I'm assuming for the role of Nick Andros(the deaf-mute guy from the books). Still, what's with all these people from The Fault in Our Stars working on this movie? What about The Fault in Our Stars tells the creators/actors, "We could do a post-apocalyptic horror movie! It'd be perfect for us!" And still waiting on confirmation for Matthew McConaughey to be cast as Randall Flagg. He'd be awesome as Flagg. If not him, then Michael Madsen(Carver). screenrant.com/matthew-mcconaughey-the-stand-randall-flagg/

Michael Madsen for the win in that case, either of them would do good.

Well, I just finished The Stand mini-series, which was actually pretty good.
However, it still had less than half of what was in the book. Now, if a six hour miniseries couldn't get even half of what was in the book, what makes them think a 3 hour movie will do any better?
I will say this, it definitely needs a remake, due to the low budget, it did not age very well, which is a shame. Aside from Molly Ringwald as Frannie, who was awful, the acting was pretty fantastic, it was very close to the book in the parts it managed to fit in, and there are some impressive scenes.
Why is it that it occurs to no one to make a TV Series of this? They're off making a TV Series for 11/22/63, which really wouldn't do any better as a TV Series than it would as a movie, and yet they keep restricting The Stand to 3-6 hour long adaptations, when the books is this huge sprawling epic that would be fantastic as a TV Series.
Oh well, if the movie is good, which I hope it is, then it will probably revive a lot of interest in the book, and maybe there'll be a TV Series eventually.
