For those of you who don't know, Jack of Fables is one of many spin-off series for the Fables comics, the ones that The Wolf Among Us acts as a prequel to. Jack of Fables follows the story of Jack Horner after he makes himself the most powerful Fable in the universe and is exiled from Fabletown. Left with one million dollars, and essentially now being a walking bastion of power and immortality, the series follows Jack on various adventures and stories. Along with Jack, the story follow Raven, his Native American companion, his sidekick, the Pathetic Fallacy, also known as Gary, and the three Page Sisters, sometimes acting as the villains, later in the series not so much.
The entire first over arcing story ends with "The Great Fables Crossover", the 13th book in the main Fables series. After that, it's a perfect opportunity for Jack, Gary, Raven and the Page sisters to be involved in a whole new set of adventures.
Instead, the last three books are... well, possibly the shittiest thing I've ever seen. Even on their own, the 7th an 8th are just boring, no real lovable or exciting characters, Jack and the rest aren't even in the 8th, and they're barely i the 7th. It follows a new, boring hero, on entirely generic and uninteresting adventures.
The end wraps it up in the worst way possible.
However, the concept that the first 6 were built on is a solid, good idea. It worked great. In fact, ignoring those last three books, I enjoyed reading the Jack books more so than the main series even. Telltale could definitely do a Jack of Fables game. I'd say it's a better fit for them even more than TWAU, seeing as how they used to do comedy games as well. It is everything they say they look for when making a game. Brilliant characters and writing, a fully fleshed out world, everything.
I think that just continuing on a separate path after the Great Fables Crossover would be a great starting point for a series like this. Just a whole new path, ignoring the last three books, which really don't even feel as if they're part of the same series.
