By the way I still think it was Faith the whole time. Same Affirmative on that.

So I thought of this bc I'm writing about TWAU for a paper But The fact that Nerissa is The Little Mermaid is honestly brilliant because in the Little Mermaid the mermaid trades her tail for legs, and loses the ability to talk. In TWAU, Nerissa trades her tail for legs, and we learn that she plants "Faith's" head so her voice can be heard, because otherwise no one would listen to or believe her. (works the other way if Nerisa is the one who died, because then her voice is never heard) It's not just "the little mermaid is a prostitute because dark adult twist on fairytales lol", it's done to draw a parallel to how the disenfranchised, especially sex workers, are ignored by government/the elite and their voices are rarely heard. This series had some brilliant writing behind it Eh I wouldn't go that far. Excuse me but when I hear popular *blank* character is now a prostitute I kind of always role my eyes.

Okay but they did it to make a point about how sex workers are often ignored by the government/those in power so it worked.

True, I'm not saying they didn't say that, which is clearly what they meant. But I'm just saying that to convey said message you picked out a hat a popular fairytale character, that I assume uncoincidentally happens to be a really popular Disney Princess is a bit... obvious? Its like in the series proper, really you made Cinderella into a badass super spy? I don't know how to feel about that, seems kind of obvious? I was honestly more okay when it was something spectacularly obscure like Faith, something that doesn't keep drawing attention to it as much as yelling "HEY! WE MADE A CHARACTER THAT HAPPENS TO BE A DISNEY PRINCESS A WHORE! WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT?!?!?!" All that said its still a great series.

Again, kind of had to be the Little Mermaid because it parallels how she trades her tail for legs and loses her voice in the original story. Also, I think your whole point about it being a popular disney princess is kind of moot because it's not Ariel, and the only mention her being the Little Mermaid once or twice, just enough to draw the parallel, as opposed to trying to bring attention to it. They very clearly weren't yelling about it. Even the stuff like starting the series off right away with Mr. Toad showing up and then owning a shitty apartment building and swearing and all that, it comes off less as just doing a dark adult version of fairytale characters for the sake of it, and more building the whole noir theme since, well, having poor disenfranchised, even criminal characters is a big part of that genre.

Oh I know they changed the name, but its impossible to not think like that when you say Little Mermaid. I think sometimes it works, like the Mr Toad start never bothered me at all, the Narissa thing though always kind of came off as that to me a bit even though your right the parallels are there. I don't know I feel its a very tricky balancingact and I am impressed Telltale didn't come off as on the negative side very often. Though it helped that the vast majority of characters were of the obscure kind, that always is a plus.

It's just the one line, and even before I really actively picked up on the signifigance of her being the Little Mermaid, it never bothered me. Guess it was just a different perception of things.

Yeah probably, its might be on my end more then anything else. Granted I still wonder where they picked that name as the original character actually has no name, her name is just Littler Mermaid.

It's a Greek name that means Sea Nymph I'm aware of that, but of all the names you could pick beside the obvious, you went with that one? Not really a complaint, just something that I always go, huh, when I play TWAU. Which by the way, its one of the more replayable Telltale games.
