10. Gears of War 1 and 2
I like this one mainly because I have fond memories of me and my older brother blasting through these games together. It was pretty sweet.
9. Fable 2
Another one from when I was younger. Retrospectively, it was only alright, but I remember getting really into it, and really in depth customizing my character, and having profound effects on the world. That's gotta mean something. I like it for the ability to do that.
8. Sid Meier's Civilization V (Gods and Kings Expansion)
I play this one with my friends quite a bit. It's fun to have all of these crazy scenarios.
7. Bioshock Infinite
Decent in gameplay, and good in its story, there's unfortunately little else I can bring myself to say about this one.
6. Hotline Miami
I had lots of fun with this one. So many different playstyles, and so many different masks that have different effects.
5. Left 4 Dead/No More Room in Hell
Had lots of fun with these ones, too. Moreso, watching me and my friends get picked off one by one. I was always fascinated with horror movies, even if I was fucking terrified. I liked how the character pool slowly drained, until it was just one last one. That's the quality that brought me to love these games equally.
4. Red Dead Redemption
The only open world Rockstar game I came even close to beating that I really liked. An awesome aesthetic, and feel give this game a great setting for some crazy setpieces.
3. Super Smash Brothers Melee
This is my favorite multiplayer game. hands down. Badass fights and all that make this game pretty goddamn sweet.
2. Fallout 3: GOTY Edition
This game, combined with all of its DLC, gives you a metric ton of agency. In the vast majority of quests, if you play your cards right, you never even have to draw a weapon if you don't want to. Or you could go in guns blazing. It's your choice. The main quest had the problem of thinking that you were a kind, logical human being, and kinda forced you to be, but the DLC gave you the ability to nuke the main protagonists, so I think that's forgiveness enough.
1. FTL: Faster Than Light (Captain's Edition mod)
I can't even explain why I love this game so much. Just that I do.

I was playing that game yesterday. It's #1 partially due to the whole Red Sox theme isn't it It helps, but it's mostly due to time frame and circumstance. I played the shit out of that game since I was in 9th grade and right in the midst of the sports video game obsession phase. One of the few baseball games that I played all 162 games on top of all the times I played with friends and all the seasons I simmed, which were countless. There was just something about doing a fantasy draft in Dynasty Mode and simming for years and years that was so much fun. It never got old to see how Joe Mauer crazed the game was. If you drafted Mauer and simmed for about 5-7 years, eventually his rank as the #1 prospect in the game blossomed into 100 contact, 100 power (vs both righties and lefties) and, somehow, someway 100 speed. This happened organically, not through rating editing or anything like that. Hilarious. As for the circumstance... well, it sticks because then came the exclusivity licensing deal with the MLB and 2K that killed off the MVP franchise. Thanks to that and my outright refusal to support any other baseball games (until The Show in 08), MVP 2005 got a few more years play than a normal sports game would. It became my Linus' blanket of sorts in terms of video games. Timeless soundtrack too. TIMELESS.

Also enjoyed the create character cheats (keegan andersen, katie roy, something like that?) which were fun to fool around with. Agree on the soundtrack, although I can't decide whether NHL 11's was brilliant or terrible:

Agree on the soundtrack, although I can't decide whether NHL 11's was brilliant or terrible: I liked the soundtrack, it was the last decent one before it went to shit. NHL 10 also had a good soundtrack. NHL 12 had some good songs, but also MONY MONY. NHL 13 was almost pure shit.

I'm largely unfamiliar with the NHL soundtracks aside from NHL 2003. What's the variety like? Hockey seems like it'd be mostly rock or hard rock, kinda like how basketball would be mostly rap. Never know though. One thing I've hated about the FIFA soundtracks is they've moved from loads of variety to crap rap or international weirdo songs and horrid dubstep. FIFA 15 soundtrack has been fuckin' woeful.

Now it's a fucking generic "beat" in all menus and shit and the only time you actually hear a real song is during intermissions. Fun Fact: One of the songs is called "Fisting the Fanbase"

I usually like the FIFA tracks because the indie/alt stuff is my taste, but yeah, 15 was kinda lackluster. I think 16 Years and Busy Earnin are my favorites from this year's.

I hated it. I'm largely unfamiliar with the NHL soundtracks aside from NHL 2003. What's the variety like? Busy Earnin' is my clear-cut favorite, but I think TFTBL is to thank for that. "The Valleys" by The Mountains is another one I like from 15. "Are You Who You Want to Be?" by Foster the People too... though, I liked that song going into it. I'm with you, I like the indie stuff, especially that's kinda pop-ish so the past years have been right up my alley. Loved Purple, Yellow, Red and Blue by Portgual The Man in last years and Goldrushed by The Royal Concept from 12... same with On Our Way from 14. Worship You by Vampire Weekend in 14. A lot of good shit in those three games. Probably long before that too, but I can't speak on that.
