Finished the first episode. Doubt I'll continue playing it. It has way too much of a chick-flick vibe for my tastes. Plus, not to mention the often cringeworthy writing, and the garbage voice actor for the protagonist. Seriously, it feels like a 40 year old man trying to get into the head of a 16 year old girl. It just doesn't gel.

I mean, it's a little inappropriate, he sounds fucking thirteen, but considering what a shitty character he is, it fits. The protagonist's is way worse. She sounds like she has a stuffy nose if she's ever slightly perturbed, and considering the titanic amount of angst, she's almost always bothered.

A few of the minor characters were bordering on terrible, and Warren VA did sound way too young, and he just wasn't all that good. And some lines were to the point where I was cringing. The one that sticks out in my mind the most is right at the beginning. I was hesitant to take a selfie, thinking that that wouldn't be the best thing to do, you know, in class, and due to my hesitation, this line popped up: "Besides, I haven't gotten my daily selfie quota in yet." Which, I know for a fact is a thing, but... still, it's just... no. Not sure about how often "hella" is used, though, that struck me as being a little off. Aside from that, and a few other things(which I guess can be brushed off as Max and the other photography students being hipsters), I think the writing was accurate. Sad to say, I know many people who actually do talk like that at my school. ._. I liked the majority of characters, the reversing time thing is cool, and I'm intrigued by the story. The amount of decisions and exploration is promising... I'll be looking to see if they pull off what Telltale failed in making the consequences matter. Choices were good, there were at least two that I really agonized over, going back and forth trying to decide what was the best thing to do, or at least, what I wanted to do. In that manner, it was very well written.

Then again, I really liked Gone Home, and the two games had a very similar feeling in how they're presented.

The line that stuck out to me was when I checked out the Arcadia map, and Max said, "Wowser, Chloe marked our treehouse, so we'd always know where to find each other in an emergency." Not only is wowser just kind of a weird word to use, that is such clunky foreshadowing. That's another problem I had. Max thinks we're all five years old. Despite all the blazing, despite the gun, and the constant "shit shit shit shit," Max says everything as though we were still in the first fucking grade. "I haven't been here in years, why do I feel like I was just here? This is where that nightmare was!" Fuck you, patronizing bitch.

She says it a few times throughout the episode. Didn't take that for foreshadowing, just her remembering stuff from her past, as she had been the whole time. I will agree, thinking on it, pointing out that it's where the nightmare was was a little unnecessary. Still, it's not something that bothered me as it happened.

Who would even think of that? For real? She did that SO MUCH throughout the episode. If something requires more brain cells than what's needed to breathe and walk around, she reminds you.

I suppose it probably is. I just thought, seeing a map where the tree house is marked, it would be natural to think, "Hey, that's where the tree house is. After 5 years, I had almost forgotten that." As for the second thing, like I said, I didn't notice it too much in that capacity, though there were moments where her constant narration did kind of get on my nerves, only once or twice though, and not something I was overly bothered about, anyway. Overall, I liked it, but I can definitely see why someone wouldn't like it for the reasons you stated. for me though, I just wasn't bothered by it, or I figure that the good outweighs the bad. The real test is when episode 2 comes out in March, if anything will matter. I'm curious to see how things varied just within the episode, but seeing if there are any consequences for your Episode 1 decisions in Episode 2 is what can make or break this for me. either way, I'll probably keep playing, but I'll be severely disappointed if the choices don't matter, to say the least.

So if it doesn't matter, then your out? Nah, I'll keep going. I mean, up until Episode 5, not a single episode in Walking Dead Season Two mattered, but I played the whole thing(then again, I bought the Season pass sooo...) Still, even if it ends up being that choices don't matter that much, I love all of the characters, lack-luster voice acting for some aside, I liked the writing, I like the style that it has, I'm intrigued by what's going on in the story, the mystery as far as the supernatural element, and some of the not so supernatural mysterious, as well as just what's going on with all the little sub-plots with the characters, and I absolutely love the art style. I'd give Episode One.... 8.5/10? Writing was good, but there were a few bits that were kind of rough, and, again, kind of lack-luster voice acting. Along with that, it was just far from perfect even if those two problems were solved. Still, I'm looking forward to the rest of the Season, and Episode One was quite good. I'd definitely recommend it... to certain people at least. I definitely don't think it would be for everyone. I get the feeling that you might like it. Episode One is only $5.

Would you say the game is better then what Telltale can do? No. As bad as Season 2 was, at least there was always a memorable moment, a funny line, something. Life is Strange is just a chick flick. Not an entertaining one at that. Not to mention, as bad as Clementine was, she was a million times more believable than Max Caulfield.
