Freed Erik? Bah, getting off scott free isn't the punishment a thief deserves. I sent him to the Wall. In my most recent playthrough I cut off his fingers, which was very satisfying (Does that make it sound like there's something wrong with me?). He had his reasons to do it, for his family. If I send him to the Wall or make him unable to work, how will they survive? I'm not sure if it matters or not but I always try to play the game thinking about all the consequences that could happen and of course how I'd react, that's why I mostly show mercy. In other words, I wouldn't survive long in the GOT universe XD You'd basically be another Ned Stark. No one wants to be a Ned Stark...

In other words, I wouldn't survive long in the GOT universe XD I considered his spiel to be utter horsecrap, especially when he claimed that the stuff he stole was rightfully his. It belonged to the House. He wasn't just stealing from the Forrester family, but everyone else at Ironrath as well. Which is why he gets to take an extended vacation up North, or repays the value of what was stolen with his blood. You also need to realize the consequences for showing the thief leniency. Let him go free and soon enough everyone at the sentencing begins buying into his "The end is nigh" crap and, seeing that him stealing stuff was given a pass by the Lord, everyone else begins stealing "What they need to survive" and Ironrath falls into anarchy with everyone stealing everything and not enough soldiers to keep order. By setting him free you may very well have single-handedly doomed your entire House and everyone who depends on it. Slightly over-dramatic, but still. Dude committed a crime.

I still prefer this option instead of being known as a cruel lord even if you say it's justice - it isn't for me. If he stole from me without a good reason I would have sent him to the wall instead.
