So, I haven't actually read this book yet. I've decided to kind of post my reactions as I read it to here, just because. Might be interesting.
This is a book by Stephen King, that is the sequel to The Shining. You know, only around 40 years later :/
It follows Dan Torrance, the kid from the first book, the one who had "The Shining", now grown up, and being plagued by the same demons his father was, both figuratively with his alcoholism, and literally, as a lot of the demons from the Overlook continue to haunt him, even now miles away from the mountains of Colorado. He works at a nursing home, and uses his odd powers to help ease people as they slip away into death, or free them of whatever demons they may have. Because of this, he becomes known there as "Doctor Sleep".
Apart form that, I have no idea what it's about. I only finished the prologue, which essentially just set up the whole thing with the demons having followed Dan from the Overlook when he was still younger, and then Dick(the chef from the first book), teaching Dan how to deal with them.
So far, it seems like a great book.

Wow, so just past the rest of the prologue... this book has immediately caught my interest.
Apparently, there is some nomadic family/cult moving all across America that owns many campgrounds or trailer parks that they stay at. Everyone in the family has the Shining, but they've all also been around for hundreds of years. They're able to stay immortal by eating the "steam" that is produced when children with the Shining are tortured and then killed.
So far, it's introduced two important members of this cult, called the "True Knot". The leader, Rose O'Hara a.k.a Rose the Hat, a new recruit, Andrea "Andi" Steiner, a "sleeper", specializing in using the Shining to make people fall into a deep sleep(she so far seems to be an IMCREDIBLY interesting character, which I'll get into later), and Rose's 'man', "Crow Daddy".
That whole part of the prologue had me thoroughly freaked out.
Aside from that, it basically established the now grown up Dan Torrance as more of an anti-hero, having stolen money from a woman that he slept with. Along with this, she had a child(18 months old) who was being abused. Dan even thinks that he could in someway do something, but in the end, just doesn't care about it enough(he so far is haunted by this, though). And then, to top it all off, he steals from a homeless guy.

I realize that probably no one cares about this, but this book may possibly be my new favorite book of all time.

I just finished this book and can safely say this this is my new favorite book of all time. I will be very disappointed if there isn't some sort of sequel and/or TV/Film adaptation.
