I don't think any of these are made up. Dreams are constantly shifting around. You remember some stuff and then fill in the holes with what you vaguely remember. I had a dream that followed this story line:
- Taking money out of the bank with friends. I look down and I've got a bunch of small screws in my hand, which is apparently being used in place of ATM cards. - I get questions by the government for some type of terrorist/fraud act. - Screws turn into dimes, ATM machine turns into a snack machine with barely anything left in it. - I pay for most of the snacks, steal one because there's no glass, someone rats on me, I put it back. - As we're leaving, one of the guys with my group says something in passing to one of us. Big goon guy overhears and thinks it's directed at him. Somehow we're all suddenly in hazmat suits. Goon kills one guy by shooting some sort of weird cone thing into guy's breathing tube. Can't get his helmet off, he suffocates to death. - Lloyd Christmas from Dumb and Dumber shows up for a brief cameo in a hazmat suit. - I escape out of the... house? - I'm suddenly with my two cousins and my brother, we go down this slide. I lose sight of all of them except my brother who is behind me. - We're sliding through a bunch of picture sights like imgur... then fan art... then it's exclusively Tangled fan art. - We are in some variation of Mexico in Red Dead Redemption. - We head into a parking garage, which turns into a warehouse. - As we make our way down, I'm with a girl and my high school best friend, no longer my brother. - We meet Jean Reno along the way. - My best friend is very hesitant to do the stunts necessary to get from the upper levels of the warehouse to the ground floor. He eventually does it. He's no longer my high school friend, he's now the sister of the girl I'm with. - When we get to the bottom, I say "come here" to the sister, give her a hug and a smack on the back of the head for being annoying and say "welcome to the family," which apparently means I'm going to marry this no-name, mystery girl I was with. - We burst out of the warehouse, back into the weirdo RDR welcome, come across a level of thugs, I offer a truce and move on. - The dream goes all cut scene on my ass since I truced with them, now I have to help them with some chores. - Apparently my unconscious doesn't like the idea of that one bit and I wake up.
All of that sounds so fucking ad-libbed. But it happened. It's kinda crazy to say dreams are made up. Things you don't think could have happened, happened and things you definitely think happened might not have happened at all.

How the hell would you know if a dream was made up or not?

techinically, all dreams are figments of your subconscious imagination, so they're all made up.

I constantly have a dream that seems pretty normal, and then a few days later almost exactly what happened in that dream or something similar actually does happen. It's weird as hell.

I think you are experiencing déjà vu. Used to happen to me a lot. Yeah, Déja Vu is really weird. I remember there was a period(I think I was 11-13 at the time) when I experienced it frequently, like every few weeks.

Has there ever been a proven reason for it? Or is it just something that happens?
