Ok, imagine this, in games where Walter saves Nick, Clementine eventually helps him through his mourning of Pete, and then, one day, we see this scene:
Nick is standing on the roof of the department store. He holds his hat in front of him and stares at it. Clem can either talk to him or simply walk up next to him. No matter what Clem says, and even if she's silent, Nick will say, "I got this hat from my dad. When I was like 12. I don't know why I've kept it this long." He looks at Clementine's hat and he says, "How'd you get yours?"
"Same. My dad."
"And the blood?"
"My friend, Lee."
Nick stays silent for a while. Then he says, "I think it's time to let go of the past. What do you think?"
"I think you're right/I think you're wrong/I think you should keep it."
"Wanna throw them away? We need to get rid of these things. They hold too many memories./Well I'm gonna throw mine away. Join if you want./I don't. Neither should you."
Then the choice pops up.
A) Toss it.
B) Keep it.

I'd toss it. Clem doesn't need a thing to remember her parents or Lee. If you get stuck in the past, you may never get out, and that could kill you later on in more ways than one.

I thought about it, and I would decide to let Clementine keep her hat. Not only because there's so much history in it, but also because I think she just wouldn't look the same without that thing. Even when she went through half of "Starved for Help" without it. Also, I don't think she would be ready to let go of the past just yet.

I'm not throwing the hat away. If she loses during a scuffle or it gets taken from her, fine. But I'm not just going to throw it away. What would be the point? To show that it doesn't mean anything to her? To keep it from anchoring her to the past?
Well it should mean something to her. It was something that was given to her out of love by people who cared deeply about her. Yeah, they're gone now, but how does that make their gift to her any less valuable?
And I haven't seen anything to suggest that the hat is what's anchoring her to the past. It's not like she's obsessive over it. If anything is keeping her from moving on, it's her guilt. And that's not something she can just cast off on a whim.

No way I'm tossing it. It's a part of her. Good or bad. Not all of the past is painful.

No, I would not toss it. Definitely not for Nick, but maybe for Kenny to see what he's got under his (another mustache).

No, memories aren't meant to be thrown away, they're meant to be kept, to be cherished, to be lived on forever. (Check my sig)
The ones who throw it away are the kind of people who are either emotionless or those who simply want to let go of the past because they can't face it. I don't see Clem throwing it away.

I'd like to think Clementine would say something along the lines of 'Memories are what make us who we are" if you choose not to toss it.

Yep, would not throw it, to many happy memory's, and besides, it might as well be part of her at this point, just as much as Lee's shirt, I can't picture her without it, unless I think of episode 2.
