Considering audiences have a positive view of Batman v. Superman and Justice League, I'm willing the trust the critics more on this. (plus I think I heard something about it getting review-bombed on rotten tomatoes? Didn't look too much into it though because I'm avoiding spoilers by all means possible)

Oh well. *rolls eyes* Because that's far more likely than the people whose jobs it is to analyze and critique movies simply having a more nuanced opinion of a film than random moviegoers.

I'm going to fully agree with you there. I believe the critics on this, I mean they can be wrong sometimes, or blinded by nostalgia or political bias like most people, but they don't just post, like this or hate this like the annoying audience scores. Its why IMDB is insufferable.

I'd probably give TLJ a 6 so to me the audience score isn't too far off, I feel like rather than being paid off critics gave it a high score in case audiences liked it to avoid being attacked, like that time people started DDOSing Jim Sterling's site because he gave BOTW a 7.

Totally unrelated but have you started watching Preacher? tbh I wouldn't want to make any further speculations about it until I've seen it, but from what I've heard it's a pretty controversial film, so, i guess any number of explanations could be right. Except for critics being paid by Disney to give it a good review. That's just... not a thing. But I've seen a couple of the spoiler-free reviews that gave it glowing scores and I gotta say it seems like they genuinely love the film, so my bet it still on a difference of taste between audiences and critics.

Oh yeah I fuckin' love me some Preacher, it's one of my favorite TV shows atm, watched both seasons in 3 days.

I agree. Maybe its a massive difference between hardcore fans and casual fans? Has the backlash against Disney already owning seemingly the world happened? Its strange since people bitch and moan about TFA but it has good audience scores, even Rogue One does. I don't get it, have to see it of course but I can't comprehend. So instead of being too close to a previous film, its now too different? Ugh...whatever. Oh and I mostly agree on the paid critic thing, that doesn't really happen, mostly. The closest I can think of was, do you remember that story about Sony 15 years ago? They got caught writing positive reviews under a fake name, and were sued into the ground so badly they had to refund people's money if they saw a film the reviewer recommended. Crazy story, but that's all I can think of when it comes to paid critics.
