"Where are you?"
A blue light moved across the vast desert,, it went on for miles, the entire planet was a desert. But the blue light continued onward, floating off across the vast desert. It looked like a shard of a sphere, it was a dark blue, almost purple, glowing of the same color. And as it floated onward, it found something.
"Aha, there you are." The blue shard said as he got near the object in question, What he found was a man, a man in grey and a dark red armor, the helmet separated from the body, but there was no blood. The blood had already dried out and likely fell through the sand.
"...I can't let this be your end old friend, destined to fail since the day you were born, but its time for you to start over, to try one more time. I know its gonna be difficult, you will feel pain again. But maybe you can start over now, search within yourself and use your past to guide your future. And maybe this time fate will be more kind to you, Omalley Fall." The shard said as its light began to glow even brighter. Falls body began to glow with the same light, his head moved back to the torso and his wounds began to heal. This mysterious being was healing him and giving him life.
After a few moments the glowing stopped.
"Alright old friend, the rest is up to you....good luck."
THE ETERNAL FALL
Chapter 1 - Reborn
A few hours later, Falls body finally started to move, opening his eyes seeing his cracker visor and the cloudy sky above him, his heart was racing as the power of his muscles was slowly returning to him, he regained the feeling in his legs and arms, a surge of power that was making him physically feel normal again. He couldn't speak, he had so many emotions going on in his mind that speaking would be pointless. He tried to get up struggling as his muscles were still recovering, he didn't quite have the strength yet. He layed on his back and looked up at the sky.
He layed there as his memories began to flood his mind all at once, the scars the battles, all the pain he has been through. And most of all his memory of her, the woman he spent over a decade to be with, only to have it all be for nothing, as she rejected him, saying they should go their seperate ways. One of the worst things that can happen to a guardian. And after dealing with that pain, he was killed and put to rest.
And yet, here he was. Alive again after suffering a cruel fate, but did he even want this? after dieing he was atleast free from having to live with his failures, but now hes back and has to live with his past.
He closed his eyes, familer feelings returning to him, the regrets of his past, haunting him like a restless spirit. When he opened them he was somewhere different now, yet familer. He could see the stars of the galaxy, the moon shining with them in the night sky. As he looked to his side, he seen a lake, surrounded by a forest, New-rum State City in the distance.
This was the lake they always went to. He got up as he walked to the lakes shore and he sat down there, taking his helmet off. his face had aged due to the mental stress of his life, his hair long and a full grown beard, all a light black.
He sat there, looking down into the lake into his own reflection, his expression blank as a few tears fell down his eyes. In the water he could see his memories. All the way back at Xutha Lake where he didn't comfort her, to when Spy captured her causing him to evolve, him being in her mind as they roamed the city, the many conversations they had, when she fainted and he held her in his arms, their fight against grant, their encounter at the lake..
And of course, their last moment together. He couldnt remember what was around them, or where they were, all he could remember, was their conversation.
"I'm sorry. But.. at the end of the day...I don't want a guardian. Never have. I just don't want that kind of relationship, with you.. or with anyone." Lynch said
Look, i shouldnt have tried to force that on you...i screwed up...all this time ive been making mistake after mistake...but please...please after everything thats happened...can we still be friends? if i could ever ask anything of you even though i dont deserve it...i would ask that..please." Omalley pleaded with her, tears were coming out of his eyes, his legs starting to tremble ever so slightly, his fear was all over his face.
"It's just.. you should.. find someone else. Someone who doesn't make you feel like this.
I'm.. going to be going, now." She said, as she turned around.
With that, she took one step, and then another. Slowly moving into a walk as she moved away from Omalley.
"Lynch..please....dont do this..im begging you please!" Omalley desperately asked as he tried to talk forward to her but he fell down to his knees and his hands on the ground. "Please dont leave, dont do this to me..i spent.. a decade of my life doing whatever i could to make you happy, i just want to be friends! i dont care about anything else! thats all im asking...thats all..please!" His voice was cracking aswell now, he was broken, crying, his legs trembleing, heart pounding, hands shakeing, he was helpless.
Lynch kept walking away, until she faded away.
"No..NO NO PLEASE!...LYNCH!.please...come back...dont leave..please...Lynch please..im sorry!...im sorry...come back" Omalley began to cry what seemed to be an endless amount of tears, he kept repeating the same words over and over...for her to come back, that hes sorry, begging for her not to leave.
And so he layed there, curled up allmost, his legs too weak to stand, his arms shakeing, his heart hurting, tears flowing, him crying between every word.
Fall watched himself in his memory, watching how helpless he was as the memory ended.
"You...you didn't have to leave like that...Why couldn't we have just been friends?..why..why did it have to end like that?..was i...was i that bad? was i that much of a problem?....did i go too far?..why? just why?" Fall said, putting his hands to his face as he cried into them.
"I would have been okay just being friends..if..if i could have visited..anything but this... Why couldn't i have stayed dead instead of having to live like this?" he asked, but got no response.
When he moved his hands away from his face, he was no longer at the lake, nor was he even in the desert. He was now somewhere else, he was in an alley, a dumpster nearby, he could see a sidewalk and a road in front of him, a few buildings, but no clear way to tell where he was, He was still crying as he stood up, holding his helmet at his side as he walked out of the alley and onto the sidewalk.
There were quite a few people walking along the sidewalks, multiple cars passing by on the road, he knew he was in a city, but he didn't know what city, or universe, or timeline he was in. He simply went with the safe assumption that he was in his timeline.
The people around him didn't seem to notice him, either that or they didn't care. As they walked right past him. Fall just sighed as he walked along the sidewalk. More focused on what he was gonna do, rather then where he was. But even then, he didn't know what he was gonna do as he walked down the sidewalk.
He wasn't sure what to do, where to go, or anything, he was just roaming around at this point, with no clear objective in sight.
He kept walking, trying to figure out at the very least what has happened in the world around him, unfortunately though there wasn't anything around him to indicate what year it even was. So he kept on walking along the street.
By now he had regained alot of his former power, he was feeling normal again even though lynch was nowhere to be found, and even though he felt better, he still wasn't completely better, he still felt weaker then he used to, and no longer being someone's guardian definitely has had a huge impact on him. He is significantly weaker, but at the very least he wasn't tired anymore.
He kept walking, looking ahead, nobody was in front of him, or at least nobody in front of his path ahead. So he closed his eyes for a moment.
When he opened them he was somewhere else again, it was a dark place and he was on what appeared to be a bridge, the path behind him and the part in front of him unfinished. The sky was black to the horizon that had a soft grey glow, the bridge made of wood was high off the sea of water below. In the distance far away towards the unfinished part of the bridge was a small, faint light.
He walked to the edge of the bridge, seeing the sea below and the light in the distant horizon.
He took a step forward and a bridge formed below his feet as he took the step, seemingly out of nowhere. And he slowly kept walking to the light as the bridge kept extending as he took steps forward, each step building the bridge, but to what was unclear. And as he walked he became tired again and he began to hear a voice.
"Sir?.....hello?..are you okay?" Fall heard as he closed his eyes and reopened them. Back in reality, he was on a knee and wasn't sure why he seen that, but when he looked up he saw a woman looking at him.
She had short dark blue hair just above her shoulders, she had a ivory skin color and was wearing a pink shirt and black pants. She looked like a young adult, at least in her twenty's.
"Hey, you okay? you look pretty beat up." she asked
"I..uhh....i..i'm fine." Fall said as he tried to stand up, but he failed and dropped his helmet.
"Yeah, you don't look fine, here let me help." the woman said as she moved over and picked up Falls helmet, she then went over to Fall and put her arm around his neck and shoulders and helped him stand up.
"I..i don't get it, i was okay a few seconds ago." Fall said
"Any idea what happened?" the woman asked
"Well, i do have an idea or two..i saw something and i tried walking towards it."
"And walking to it made you tired?"
"I think so."
"Well, maybe you should stop chasing after it." the woman smiled as they kept walking. They were close to a park and they went into it, filled with beautiful Autumn trees and paths and bench's, a lake, she sat Fall down on a bench and she set his helmet down and sat beside him and looked at him.
"Old habits die hard i guess." Fall said, there was a heavy burden in his words.
"So you know what you saw afteral?" The woman asked
"Yeah, i think i do, but it doesnt matter." Fall said, but then he looked at the woman. "So whats your name?" Fall asked
She smiled. "My name is Kari, whats yours?" she asked
"My name is..." Fall started before he cut himself off, he paused for a few moments.
"Fall, my name is...Fall." Fall said
The woman chuckled a little "Well that name sounds fitting considering i had to pick you up." Kari said, her smile was innocent.
"Yeah, i guess so." Fall said.
"Ooh! or is it Fall like the season?" Kari asked
"No its not for the season unfortunately, its...for another reason, its a long story." Fall said as he looked at the trees, enjoying the view of the park. He then stood up and grabbed his helmet.
"Thanks Kari for helping me." Fall said
"Anytime! so where were you going?" Kari asked
"Well....i don't know."
"Wait, you don't know?" she asked as she stood up and looked at Fall as he put his helmet back on.
"I don't really know where I'm going, i'm just...going." Fall admitted
"Well, that doesn't seem helpful, maybe you should go home and figure things out?"
"Well i...don't have a home."
Kari looked confused as she looked at Fall. "You don't know where you are going, and you don't have a home to go to?" Kari asked
Fall simply looked at her and nodded.
"Well, i have no idea what happened to you, but maybe you should come with me, i would hate to just leave you out here." Kari said.
"You sure?" Fall asked
"Absolutely, come on, lets go!" Kari smiled as she walked forward further into the park. Fall looked at her for a few moments, and then decided to follow her.
The Autumn trees in the park were very beautiful, the ground was covered in the Autumn leaves, it was a colorful and beautiful place. Kari led Fall to the parks lake, she sat down and Fall stood a few feet beside her as he looked at the water, the suns light shining on the water in a beautiful sight.
"I always came to this lake as a kid, its a wonderful view and its always peaceful. No matter the season its always beautiful day or night...what do you think?
....Fall?" Kari asked as she looked at Fall who was just starring at the lake.
He kept starring at it then closed his eyes again and reopened them. He seen the forest lake, the lake he used to visit, but Kari was still beside him, he seen the forest lake, but kari saw the park lake.
"I have a lot of memories at a lake like this..." Fall said
"Good memories? or bad?" Kari asked
"A bit of both to be honest." Fall said
"Well, we can leave if you would like, i don't mind." Kari said.
Falls vision went back to normal again. "No its fine."
"Yeah." Fall said as he sat down and looked at the lake.
Both sat there for a little bit, not really talking and just enjoying the view, a few families walked by and some others could be seen across the lake on the other side. Everyone was minding their own business and not paying any attention to the two of them. The sun was getting close to setting and so Kari got up, as did Fall.
"Its almost sunset, we need to get going!" Kari said as she began walking out of the park, fall took a final moment to look around before he followed.
She brought fall to her car, which was fairly normal and average. She got in the driver seat and Fall got in the passenger, falls armor barely fitting in the car. and she began to drive through the city.
There wasn't anything special about the city itself, it was normal and there was no indication of what universe this was or timeline. But Fall wasn't concerned about that, he was just focused on his future.
He closed his eyes and then reopened them, he was standing on the bridge again, the unfinished bridge which led to a faint light in the distance.
He wanted to say something but nothing needed to be said, his past for years was all he could think about, and now he is back, forced to try and move beyond his haunting past. He isnt sure how, but he knows its his only option now.
Fall stared at the faint light and the everything began to fade.
