Even after I'd been playing this for quite a while and knew it was an amazming game, I still wasn't expecting for it to really hit me emotionally, y'know? I've cried twice, so far, and this game has officially just... wow, yeah, it really got to me. First time was When Kratos enters the light of Alfhiem. Hearing Atreus' thoughts, about how he felt like Kratos never wanted him, about feeling alone and afraid next to his dad... It's not.... it's not exactly what I've gone through, and Kratos is - for as emotionally distant as he is - probably a better parent than either of mine(not by a lot though), but still... As someone who feels... distant from their parents, like a burden, dealing with abuse or emotionally self-involved parents... it... really hit me. And Atreus' hope that Kratos could be better... I'm starting to tear up typing this. I know not many people will have had the same reaction I did, but... it really struck a powerful chord with me, and I was close to outright sobbing by the end of that scene. Second time was in the mountain when Atreus discovers what the lantern is for and writes a prayer for the ancestors to look over his mother. Honestly, that one is probably due to estradiol still sad, still made me cry. Anyway, I'm currently looking for the chisel to crave the Jotenheim rune, and I'm about finished with exploring the Lake of Nine since the World Serpent moved even further out of the lake. Final note: I love Mimir, Freya, and Sidri. The supporting cast overall is super good. How could you leave out Brok? And yeah Mimir is the best.

Oh man. This just keeps getting better and better by the minute. Going through the icy region of Thamur's corpse, I managed to improvise a way to get a piece of the chisel needed to get to the realm of the giants by using Thor's hammer. What a wild ride that was. I thought that it was funny how Kratos defiled the old dining room just to progress further. Sindri showing his trick to travel between realms was funny.
Managed to survive a hectic tag-team boss fight against Magni and Modi. Managed to kill Magni, but that chickenshit Modi slipped away, and then Atreus got ill. I was tempted to ride the boat back, but I used the gateway back instead. At least now I finally have something to unlock those magically sealed doors.
As soon as we get into Tyr's vault, Modi got the jump on us. Atreus actually unleashed his Spartan rage, but then fainted. I don't know why Kratos didn't just kill Modi then and there, but he'll get what's coming to him soon. Right now, my main concern now is Atreus. The desperation in Kratos' yelling and the look on his face asking Freya to help his son aches my heart. Freya says his true nature is fighting within him, and I need to bring back the heart of Hel's gate keeper, but the axe won't help me get it.
And then, that's where things get really awesome. Kratos returns home to reclaim his old weapons; The Blades of Chaos. Hell. YES! I didn't think I'd get to use them again. But oh man, cutting the hel-walkers down to size with the blades was epic. And they didn't even lay a finger on me during my first time using them. Oh, and long time no see, Athena.
It was nice to see Brok was concerned and even offered to help. Going into Hel, I realized there's one problem; Only Atreus can carry the resurrection stone, so if I die, I can't get back into the fight. But, I'm confident that I can get that gate keeper's heart without too much trouble. After all, this isn't the first time Kratos has fought his way in and out of Hell.

I haven't even played the original games but fucking shit up with the blades of chaos sent chills down my spine. Only this fucking game would throw an entirely new weapon and skill set at you right as you think you're nearing the end.

Managed to save Atreus. And Kratos finally told his son the truth. And his first response? "Can I turn into an animal?" He says. HA! He took a lot better than anticipated. XD Though, Kratos did leave out the part where he killed all the Olympus gods, including his father Zeus. Doesn't help that one of the spirits we encounter mentioned being stabbed in the back by his own son and Atreus had a hard time dealing with that.

Tyr's vault was not fun. Going through all those traps of his made me think back to "Avery's Descent" on "Uncharted 4". So paranoid to keep his treasure safe and secret. How convenient for Atreus that he always has those small passages to go around these traps. But, I did like that scene where Kratos and Atreus shared a drink of wine from his home world.
But then, the fact that he is a god has really gotten to his head. The boy started getting all cocky and insubordinate. He even killed Modi. I didn't like seeing what he was turning into. It's always hard dealing with such angst. And just when we were about to enter the Giants realm, Baldur shows up for round 2. Atreus went as far as to shoot his own father to keep him from interfering and got himself kidnapped. Damn, son. Fighting Baldur while riding on a dragon's back was really intense. And then we get sent straight into Hel to keep Baldur from sending us to Asgard.
That's when we learn yet another secret; Freya is also Baldur's mother, and is the one who gave him invulnerability. Even bewitched Mimir to keep him from telling his weakness. Riding the boat all the way back out was cool, yet stressful since I had to keep the flames lit while fighting the Hel-walkers. By the end of it, the memory of Kratos killing Zeus was shown, yet Atreus didn't say anything about it, and just pretends he didn't see anything. I had thought that I would make Baldur cross the Bridge of the Damned and leave him there since there's no way out from that point. But, hopefully he stays there and doesn't try to come back.
Sindri and Brok finally made up and are now working together again. It was such a sweet reunion. I guess Atreus' outburst was the motivation Sindri needed to make up with Brok. They built the key I needed to get to the Giants' realm. It won't be long now until this journey ends. I can feel it.

About how far through the main story is the Magni and Modi boss fight? That fight occurs when you are just about to get the chisel under Thamur's Corpse.

About how far through the main story is the Magni and Modi boos fight? Not entirely sure since I didn't time any of what I played, but I'd estimate just over halfway, but you still have a tonne to do.

I have completed the journey. Fuck Tyr's temple. I didn't get killed by its death traps (pure luck), but they are just so ridiculous.
Anyway, I managed to get what we needed to go to the Giant's realm and I was all pumped and ready to finish this... until I learn that I still needed one last ingredient; Mimir's lost eye, which happens to be inside the statue of Thor, that the World Serpent ate. Aww, bullocks. Kratos just can't go on one adventure without getting eaten alive, can he? I'm glad that we managed to get Mimir's other eye back to him. Now I won't be constantly distracted by his empty eye socket anymore.
And that's where everything comes to a head. (No pun intended.) After getting spat out of the World Serpent, Freya shows up looking for her son. And speak of the fucking devil himself, he shows up wanting to go for a third (and final) round, and settle some family issues with his mother. He just couldn't stay in Hel and leave well enough alone can he? And there was even a giant involved, too. Where the holy hell did he come from?!
The final boss fight was so epic. As soon as the fight started, the first thing I did was punch Baldur in his damn face. Freya kept interfering with her vines. Damn him for hitting Atreus. But that was when his weakness was revealed; mistletoe. That explains why Freya burned all the mistletoe arrows Sindri gave Atreus. With the spell broken, he's now able to feel a whole world of pain now. With Atreus by my side, we kept hitting him with all we had. He was even able to call the World Serpent to attack the giant.
After kicking Baldur's arse one last time and nearly beating him to death, he hashes it out with his mother, Freya. She was even going to let her own son kill him. But Kratos took matters into his own hands, to "break the cycle" as he put it. Yet, Freya swore all kinds of vengeance against him for what he did. Guess this means her door's not open to us anymore.
With Baldur now dead, nothing left to find or anyone else to get in our way, we finally head out to the Giants' realm, to finish what we started. Even Brok and Sindri came to see it for themselves. It was cool how Kratos took off his bandages after revealing all that he was hiding, and even allowed Atreus to carry his mother's ashes in the home stretch. What really blew me away was what was inside the place. Drawings of the events that have happened throughout the journey, like they knew it was all going to happen. Faye was also among them, showing that she was also part giant, making Atreus part mortal, part god, and part giant. That is one special kid. Speaking of which, Faye originally wanted to name him Loki. Yeah, no. Atreus sounds better, which Kratos tells a very good story about. But I also saw that one drawing of Kratos dead in his son's arms. That's just messed up.
And then, the moment we've been waiting for, everything that we have been through, has lead up to this moment. Kratos and Atreus finally reached the highest peak in all the realms and spread Faye's ashes out together. This moment, along with the music that was playing, was so beautiful. :') Part of me was expecting to see Faye's ghost, but it didn't happen. I ain't complaining though.
Alright, so I managed to fulfill Faye's last wish. All that's left to do now is to keep exploring with Atreus to visit the rest of the realms, fight corrupted Valkyries, free dragons, find the rest of the hidden stuff and all that shit. This game was so awesome from start to finish. One of the best I have played in 2018.

Been busy exploring and doing other favors. Along the way, I managed to do the Muspelheim trials. My least favorite one there is to avoid getting hit once. Then there's going through the cursed mist in Niflheim. That place is a real pain. The fights, I can deal with, but those traps are still ridiculous. I much prefer running past the spinning blades than avoiding the smashing walls.
I also just got done fighting and freeing the corrupted Valkyries. They are a force to be reckoned with. Had to find materials and resources to obtain stronger armor, as well as better enchantments so I can stand a better chance against them. Some of them made me have to use a resurrection stone before I was able to finish them with a few Spartan Rage hits. After I finally collected all the helms, it was time to face queen Valkyrie. Oh, my God, this boss fight was so hard, she makes Baldur seem like a real pushover. It took me a bunch of tries until I got lucky and finally ripped her wings off. God, that was difficult.
After that, I decided to head home and rest. Then I get an epilogue cutscene that said, "Years Later...", and yet, Atreus has barely aged and neither has Kratos. They go outside to see non other than Thor himself standing outside their house with his famous Mjolnir. Obviously not to happy with his sons and Baldur dead. I thought that I was going to fight him, too, but then it cuts to the credits. After that, Atreus says that he had a dream that felt like it was the future. Maybe they will do another game that continues from that point, or maybe they won't. Either way, I still really enjoyed this game.
