Episode 1 - Realm of Shadows Discussion Thread

The QTEs are a bit more fast-paced than they usually are in other TTG games. When I noticed the Bat-shaped meter in the bottom left corner, I thought it was like a health-bar or something, like if I mess up one too many, it'd be all the way depleted and then Game Over. But, turns out it's just a charge-meter for the finishing move. And I do like how we got to choose what color we want for the UI and bat-tech. Though, I was hoping that there would be a TWAU style intro. I have to say, I really enjoying playing as both sides of Bruce Wayne in this game; as a playboy billionaire and as Batman. I also liked how the descriptions for the other episodes described how Bruce and Batman are two separate people, even though they are literally the same guy.

Even though I know who Harvey will eventually become, I do like this side of him and having him as an ally. Tried to play the "keep your enemies closer" act with Falcone, and by the end of it, I really started regretting shaking that bastard's hand. That guy from the trailer that said "make sure your on the right side"? Never thought that it would be Cobblepot AKA The Penguin. He's a lot skinnier and younger than The Penguin I'm familiar with. And then there's Catwoman. The fight with her was pretty intense. When Selina came and we both noticed the marks we gave each other during the fight, all I could think of was "Busted". With Harvey around the conversation was a lil awkward and a whole lot tense.

What I liked about playing as Batman in this game was how we got to link the evidence together and recreate the crime scene like detectives, similar to how it is in the Arkham series and put a plan of attack together by deciding on how to take down each goon. Those chemicals at the warehouse that caused that one cop to rip up that one goon with his bare hands got me thinking that we might be seeing Scarecrow some time soon. And what I really like to know is, just what the hell was Falcone talking about when he said the Waynes were the biggest gangsters? And what the hell is Alfred hiding?

MY CHOICES:
- I defied Falcone and let Harvey into the private meeting. My house, my rules.
- I chose to take control of the emerging Wayne story and Gave Vicki a quote. I didn't want more false rumors to be spreading.
- I showed mercy in the interrogation with the dock shooter. He called me an animal. I wanted to prove him wrong.
- I gave the Falcone data to Vicki. The way I see it, Bruce can make friends with Vicki while Batman can make friends with Gordan.
- I had Falcone arrested and handed over to the police. I drew the line at brutalizing him. He was going to be convicted for the evidence data I found anyways.

Once I finally was able to play it without the annoying issues, I enjoyed it. It was a bit slow, but hey, I like that kind of stuff. Batman parts were easily the best parts, the detective part when you were linking stuff was cool.

Showed restraint? That would have been cool if you could kill Falcone. But you know, whatever.

Overall, 7/10 Good first episode.

I kinda feel like an idiot for not noticing that Cobblepot was the Penguin (I thought he was an original character until my brother told me otherwise.) The combat sequences were definitely my favorite of any Telltale Game to date (and the hardest too! Man I think I missed more QTEs in this episode than I did in the entirety of all other Telltale games combined!)
