I didn't see* any threads for the Total War series so I thought I'd make one, since I've been getting into "Napoleon: Total War" recently. I like this series. I used to play Rome 1 and Medieval 2 quite a bit. So, ya know, if anyone else has an interest in this series come to this thread to chat about your campaigns, battles, favorite factions, whatever.
Me, currently I'm in N:TW controlling Great Britain in a war with France (And Spain and the Batavian Republic, but those two don't really care enough to get personally involved). I've lost an entire army and 75% of another one, but on the bright side that's a lot of paychecks I don't have to pay anymore. They were wiped out by France's massive main army, which had been sitting in Paris until leaving to curb stomp my troops into the ground. I moved in immediately after with my last remaining force and secured Paris, right out from under Napoleon's nose.
Then the fucker just retreated. He abandoned his capital to me. Now he's fucking with the cities on the edge of my territory while my main force is stuck occupying Paris to keep the citizens from rebelling and running right back into Napoleon's arms. But guess what? They rebelled anyway. Now I have French rebels in the North around Paris, and the actual French army in the south near the border with Spain. Things... could be better, to say the least.
*Or even look for, really

I've got one of them, Rome 2 I think? I could never get into it. Meh, Rome 2 wasn't great at all. I have it as well. Payed full price and regret it. In more recent years the TW series has slowly been going downhill, but the older games (Medieval 2, Shogun 2, Napoleon) are all pretty great if you enjoy grand strategy games like these. I'd check them out if you have an interest, especially for the mods (For instance, Napoleon can be modded to give you World War 1, or Medieval 2 can be modded to give you the damn Lord of the Rings).

I've always thought Shogun 2 looked fun, but my brief experience with Rome 2 put me off the series as a whole, but with the summer sale coming up I might just pick it up then.

Several of the Total War games actually have free demos you can download from Steam and try out to see if you like the feel of them, so that could be a good place to start in case you still aren't sure.

I've played Medieval 2, Empire and Napoleon.
My favourite things were online battles against friends in Napoleon and genociding indigenous folks in canada while playing as Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth in Empire

I've heard some pretty great stories from Rock playing Napoleon. I also thought this was amusing: Me: Kill as many polish motherfuckers as you can find. Rock: I will do it in your name *I get another steam message a second after, but this time it's from wakemeup * Rzepix: im dead *I go to speak to Rock again* Me: Whatever you did, keep doing it. *shows him the message Potato sent me* Rock: I didn't even do anything. Man, this genocide thing is easy.

Shit just got real.
Up to this point, I had been allied with Prussia, Russia, and Austria. Together the four of us fought against France and Spain, the only other superpowers in Europe. I defeated Spain easily enough, and by then France was so broken they could only make me pay for every inch of soil I took from them. Pressured by Austria and Prussia to their East, and Great Britain (Me) to their West, it was only a matter of time until France fell. And they did. I struck the final blow on the island of Corsica and destroyed the French Empire. But a lot of others got caught in the crossfire. Switzerland was wiped out by Russia, who sent over an army just to reap the spoils of our war. Prussia invaded Hungary near the war's end, as well as a few other smaller nations and wiped them off the face of the Earth. The troops Prussia wasn't using against smaller nations were, strangely enough, sitting right at my border... Austria began fucking with Northern Italy but stopped once France was defeated. After my victory on Corsica I headed a few miles South to the island of Sardinia and conquered it too.
So that's how the war with France ended. Britain (Me), Russia, Austria, and Prussia stood united on Europe, basking in the spoils of our victory over Napoleon and his Spanish allies. This was it. We defeated our enemies and ushered in a new age of peace to Europe. Time to live as heroes. We four superpowers reigned supreme, and united.
Until, of course, Austria broke off their alliance with Russia. Two weeks (One turn) after France fell Austria broke their alliance with Russia. Why? I got no fuckin' clue. And Prussia, those bastards, started marching their armies into my territory because we all had military access to each other. And he was marching in HUGE armies, like completely full of fresh troops. I kicked Prussia's armies out of my territory (Via diplomacy. Instead of setting off a massive war I just kinda told them "Get the fuck outta here" and they listened, but they've kept troops at my border ever since). Austria began massing near my southern frontier cities, so I was forced to spend almost my entire treasury to mobilize more troops and fortify my borders. This went on for a few turns, maybe two or three in-game months, with all four superpowers just building up our armies. We were at a point where everyone in the game was allied with at least one (Usually more) of the four big superpowers (Again, Austria, Russia, Prussia, and Me as Britain). If anyone did anything at all, even lightly ticked off anyone else? Europe would fucking explode.
Which is why Austria, in his infinite wisdom, declared war on Russia. And me, being ally to both of them, had to choose between coming to Russia's aid (Pissing off Austria, who was massed at my southern border) or sitting the war out and pissing off both of them. I had no idea on which side Prussia would fall. So I agonized over it for a full minute before I decided to declare my support for Russia and enter the conflict. Prussia did the same. Now Prussia is waiting with half his armies on my northern border while he sends the other half to fight Austria, meaning I have to do the same, and only God knows what's happening in Russia now because he's on the other side of the map doing stuff where I can't see.
And that's how World War 1 began in 1809.

Austria got wiped off the map in about 4 months. With Prussia, Russia, and myself attacking them on all sides they fell very quickly, and each of us got more or less the same amount of land out of the short but brutal war. The Papal States decided to throw their lot in with Austria when my advance took me near Northern Italy, but since they were just a glorified city-state it didn't take me much effort to destroy them.
So, now there are only three superpowers left. I have no idea what's going to happen, but since Austria was defeated neither of the other two have overtly tried to dick anyone else over. Prussia still has troops near my territories in the North, and Russia has been sailing a fleet around near Portugal (My one ally, and that's a place they have no right to be patrolling since it's on literally the opposite side of the map from Russia). Maybe Europe finally gets some peace? Who knows. I'll just sit, sipping my tea and adjusting my monocle, until someone forces me to mobilize Great Britain's armies once again.

I finally became fed up with Prussia's troops on my border and decided to fuck him up. I've amassed about 6 full armies and am currently ravaging his lands. In fact, I'm already poised to take Berlin (His capital) AND Warsaw, his two largest cities. I bribed Russia and Denmark with a shitload of money to break off their alliance with Prussia and enter the war on my side. Soon enough Prussia will have ceased to exist, and with the territory and resources I'll gain from him I will be the greatest superpower in Europe. I'll be bigger than fucking Russia.

I destroyed Prussia.
The war was more difficult than any others so far, they repelled some of my attacks and even managed to take Munich from me, but in the end I defeated them. Now I'm even bigger than Russia. After I'm done mopping up Meckleberg (Fuckers) and Denmark, I'll begin my march to Moscow. I'm about 99% guaranteed to win this campaign now. For King and Country.
