The war is over... for now (Spoiler free for the most part, no big plot or ending details but I'll spoiler tag this in case you aren't sure). During XCOM's final operation to CLASSIFIED, the squad came under fire from a large number of alien forces who proceeded to surround the team. During the intense firefight as the squad attempted to hold its ground, Colonel sos was hit several times by enemy plasma fire, eventually succumbing to his wounds on the battlefield after eliminating several alien soldiers. The squad managed to effect an escape from the situation, but not before Colonel Niccc was cut off from the rest of the unit and heavily wounded by charging Mutons. The remaining squad members regrouped and fought back the alien horde long enough to complete their objective, but what happened to the survivors afterward is unknown. The squad, including Carlos and Colonel Rock, is considered to be Missing in Action until proof of their fate can be determined*. *Essentially, the ending was unclear on the subject of whether or not the squad survived. The game didn't list them as having been killed but like I said, it was very unclear, so Carlos and I are MIA. Damn it, Rock. We got cliffhanger'd. Time to wait 6 months to find out if we survived or not.

We were screwed 8 ways to Sunday, so to be able to just to say that we're MIA is pretty fuckin' awesome. Like, seriously. SOS died, Wolf died, you had 2/19 health, another guy was Mind Controlled and ready to blow Bill's head off, and the Aliens were literally about to slide their barbed cocks up our asses then salt whatever remained after they pulled out with well over 10 units, and some motherfuckers I can't even describe to you but once you meet them you'll know. You WILL know. Even if we're dead we died for Earth, and the rest of XCOM can carry on our legacy.

The good news in my death is that technically my wife is an immortal ghost and she's the only thing that matters to me so I'll just choose to forgo Heaven (probably Hell) and return as a phantom.
I believe in you guys. You're still out there somewhere. You'll avenge me. You'll win. We shall not be vanquished.

I imagine me and Rock are getting drunk as shit and smoking our lungs till they stop working while watching each other's backs from aliens and shit. This. We're walking across the Earth to get back to the Avenger while getting plastered and smoking our lungs into crusty, dried up tar and kicking ass with our Fusion Blades. Me and TC were even both Rangers. And we got Bill (Again, from L4D, even with the voice pack) with us, complaining about being old and talking about Vietnam. It's a road trip made in heaven. Unless we're dead, which is a 50% possibility. On another note, just found a nice video about XCOM. An Honest Trailer voiced by none other than the Councilman from Enemy Unknown. I have to share it. The best part, in my own humble opinion, comes at the end.

So I'm thinking of starting a new playthrough on Ironman since two new mods were released today by the team who made the Long War mod for Enemy Unknown. If I do I'll still be using the same characters from my last campaign, and maybe one or two new ones.
Also, did any of you know that Firaxis actually hired the Long War mod team specifically to have them make mods for XCOM 2? I just found that out. I have to say that it's pretty cool of them.

Started my Ironman playthrough. Fuck it. Might as well. It's going to end very badly, but I might as well. For those not in the know, Ironman saves the game every time you make a move so every choice you make is permanent. So if I screw up (And I will) then whoever dies is fuckin' dead, permanently. No save scumming. But to help us in our struggle, XCOM has taken on two new operatives: Tom Hagan: A reserved man hailing from Poland, Tom considers himself a student of history and has taken it upon himself to record the unique times humanity finds itself living in now. Originally from one of ADVENT's many city centers, and being exposed to ADVENT's unrelenting propaganda campaign against XCOM, Tom decided that he needed to know for himself exactly what kind of organisation XCOM was. He moved his family to one of the Resistance Havens deep in the wilderness to get them out from under ADVENT's iron-fisted tyranny in the cities and sought out XCOM to finally get the other side of the story. As he suspected almost everything ADVENT was saying in the cities was a lie. Instead of terrorists he found freedom fighters, friendly and no different from any other human being. It didn't take long for Tom to dedicate himself to telling the true story of XCOM and to do that he has begun to document everything around him. He plans on interviewing everyone aboard the Avenger, from support personnel to soldiers to the Command Staff. One day he hopes to compile everything his comrades have told him into a book to ensure that the sacrifices XCOM and the resistance are making won't be forgotten. But to do that the war must first be won and Tom is more than glad to lend his assistance in the field to do his part in lifting mankind to victory over their oppressors. @backtothewalkers : Hailing from Ireland, Heisen was one of the first to join XCOM and swiftly proved himself to be one of its deadliest operatives. He has the honor of being named "ADVENT's Most Wanted" and the price on his head far surpasses those of his peers. The reason for this? According to his friends, it's because he's nothing short of a psychopath. The only soldier in XCOM to fight simply for its own sake, the thrill of being on the battlefield is nearly intoxicating to him. He fights the aliens because it's fun, and no other reason. He'll stand tall in the middle of a firefight and dare the enemy to land a shot, charge enemy soldiers against 3 to 1 odds, and even leave his squad behind in pursuit of more enemy forces to kill. His unrelenting lust for battle strikes fear both into the hearts of his ADVENT foes and XCOM personnel alike. While he manages to keep himself under control at base those who fought with him are always wary that the "real" Heisenberg could emerge at any moment.

So far nobody has died, though there have been some close calls. Half the squad nearly got wiped out on an extraction mission, but an insane amount of luck from Bio, an insane and foolish move from Heisen that actually worked out pretty well, and expert shooting from Harp ensured that everyone made it back alive. We've even had a few kickass missions, the best of which was when Harp, Tom, and I absolutely fuckin' rekt a bunch of Sectoids and Troopers (Including reinforcements!) without anyone even getting wounded.

Fuck. XCOM suffered its first casualties on a recent supply raid against ADVENT forces. Rookie Bill Overbeck was killed by a shot from a Muton during the final firefight of the battle. After he fell and the aliens advanced on his squad's position, Sergeant Rock was bound by a Viper and then poisoned. While his squadmates fired their weapons about as well as blind amputees attempted to free him, the Viper's venom proved extremely deadly. Thrown into disarray by the enemy's expedient counter-attack, Sergeant SOS was unable to return fire after deciding that jerking off in a dark corner would be a better use for his time than saving his friend heavy fire was directed toward his position. Before he expired, the enemy forces were too preoccupied with fucking up his day for no GODDAMN reason focusing their attack on him that they presented themselves as targets to his remaining comrades, Lieutenant Wolf and Corporal Brotato. Unfortunately, these inept motherfuckers deadly operatives were unable to destroy the final enemy soldier that remained, thus ending the mission, before Rock expired from the Viper's venom because the goddamn sniper missed two 91% shots IN A ROW when he only needed to land ONE of them.
XCOM honors its fallen, and mourns for these two patriots who fell too soon.
Rk. Bill Overbeck - KIA. Epitaph: "We look after our own."
Sgt. Jolty Rock - KIA. Epitaph: "Fuck you, XCOM." I'm not bitter.

... In the aftermath of Rock's untimely death XCOM has been preparing to strike at the heart of Alien operations, a BLACKSITE pertaining to the mysterious AVATAR Project located in the Western United States. Just before the mission was launched, XCOM personnel detected Resistance signals coming from elsewhere on the West Coast, and determined that an ADVENT Scientist was willing to defect if XCOM could effect an extraction. In desperate need of Intel to contact other Resistance cells elsewhere on Earth, XCOM dispatched a squad to the site immediately, which consisted of @rhseemscool, sos, Tom Hagan, and Hunter (A friend of Rock's). The team was led by squad leader Lt. Wolf, another friend of the deceased Rock. Upon arriving on the site and locating the scientist the squad attempted to advance toward the extraction zone to be picked up, but Hunter quickly stumbled into a unit of two Sectoids led by a Muton after the rest of the squad had taken up positions, giving the Aliens the first move. Clustered tightly together with the VIP, Harp and SOS were both heavily wounded by the explosion while the VIP was killed immediately, and SOS sustained an additional blast from a Sectoid plasma weapon. The squad attempted to regroup and fought back the ambush, killing the Sectoids, but were unable to incapacitate the Muton before he was able to charge Harp and severely wound him with his bayonet. Lt. Wolf managed to stabilize Sgt. Harp before he bled out, and the squad began limping toward the extraction site with one man down and no VIP. Upon reaching the building the extraction point was located on top of the squad was ambushed from two sides, one enemy unit consisting of ADVENT troopers and MEC while the other was made of Vipers and a Stun Lancer. Surrounded and in bad shape, Hunter and SOS stayed behind to give Tom and Wolf a chance to escape to the roof, where the extraction site was, with the severely wounded Harp. As the two fought to hold the line below, Tom and Wolf carried Harp to the top of the two story building just before the Aliens advanced on their friends. Hunter was critically hit by a stun lancer while SOS took several rounds from ADVENT rifle fire, but somehow miraculously survived their onslaught. Tom, exposed after disabling the enemy MEC, was hit badly by ADVENT fire while on top of the roof and fell two stories to the ground between SOS and Hunter, unconscious. Unable to leave his squad to their fate, Lt. Wolf set Harp down on the roof near cover and went back to save his men, but a grenade and ADVENT rifle fire severely wounded the squad leader and destroyed the only way to the roof for Hunter and SOS. During this exchange of fire Tom bled out. Surrounded, wounded, and trapped, the two of them put up a last stand as the enemy forces closed in around them. Hunter detonated a grenade on himself to kill an ADVENT trooper nearby, and succeeded before he was shot to death. Lt. Wolf, barely clinging to life on the roof, succumbed to his wounds at the same time. SOS, badly wounded from a grenade blast and multiple laser and plasma wounds, was now alone against an overwhelming force. In one last, spiteful effort he charged into the horde of aliens with his sword, killing an ADVENT Shieldbearer before the volume of enemy fire finally proved too great for him and he was cut down. FIREBRAND was forced to flee the scene with her Skyranger. Harp has been classified Missing in Action, though given that Wolf stabilized him and dragged him away from the firefight before he himself was killed, it is likely that Harp has been captured by ADVENT. His fate beyond that point is unknown. Results of OPERATION TOMB FIRE: Failure to extract VIP, extreme casualties sustained by XCOM forces. KIA - Lt. Wolf, Squad Leader KIA - Sgt. Tom Hagan MIA - Sgt. Harp, presumed captured KIA - Sgt. SOS KIA - Cpl. Hunter XCOM will have difficulty replacing these talented soldiers in the difficult days ahead.
