Easy choice for me - Rochelle. I love it to play women in video games if they're not that ugly Otherwise I'd prefer Coach since he's a badass but it doesn't matter since I have the Clem mod from DF And with my Clem voice pack I highly prefer to play Rochelle of course

For me, it's Bill for L4D1, and Coach for L4D2. Probably gonna start playing Nick, though. Like TC and I were talking about, Nick is a badass. He's the only character in either game that ACTUALLY develops, and is written like a real snarky asshole. So that's interesting.

Bill goes from wanting to actively fight the zombies because he enjoys it and wipe out the infection to simply ensuring the safety of his group and letting the rest of the world burn, even giving his life for them. Zoey starts as a laid back college student who wants to actively fight zombies, like Bill did, and help people until his death when she becomes more serious and is forced to become the leader in Bill's absence and settles into his mindset of keeping their group alive before anything else.

Ok, that's true. Even then, though, that's in post-game content updates. Nick develops in every campaign, slowly becoming more gentle, until he's basically just the Rock of the group.

Yeah, he pretty much is the Me of the group toward the end. I used to play as him on Xbox, but fell into the role of Coach later on afterI had to keep my friends (Wolf, who now plays as Nick, and another, who played as Ellis) from constantly bickering during the game. It just... I dunno, felt kinda natural then. And yeah, Nick's development was was part of the vanilla game, unlike Bill and Zoey's, which is a point in his favor. I do wish the second group got their own comic so we could get some more of that for everyone else.

Am I the only one who never thought that there is something like a story? There's a story alright, it's just pretty subtle in the first one. It's taken almost entirely from graffiti found throughout the campaigns (Most often in saferooms), but also some survivor dialogue. In the second game the story is more in the open with a clear goal (New Orleans and the military) and is easier to pick up on. Again, there's a load of saferoom graffiti to help with this, especially later on in the story (Hard Rain and The Parish to be more specific). The Sacrifice and The Passing have story pretty much at the center of them as we see how the first group ended up after being rescued by the military. We see their plan to escape the mainland on a sailboat, Bill's sacrifice when the generator breaks down in The Sacrifice campaign and the comic based on it, and then how the remaining three are dealing with it when we meet up with them as the second group in The Passing. Then a definitive ending for the first group at the end of the comic. I've got pretty much all of it ingrained into my memory. As you can see, I love this series.

I see ^.^ I played L4D2 a few years ago (free weekend on Steam) and probably didn't pay attention. I only remember that you kept trying to escape, then something bad happens and you search for another escape. I also thought that the communication between the characters was just random shit talk and not story related. Maybe I should replay it, someone wants to make a run through the whole game with me? (in parts, not in one day)

(in parts, not in one day) Survivor dialogue was mostly random shit in the first game, but quite a few lines also helped demonstrate the relationships between them (Like Francis' cynical nature clashing with Louis optimism and Bill and Zoey having a father/daughter relationship). The story is, essentially, this (Might be a little long, I've tried to summarize it as best I can): An outbreak of a virus known as the "Green Flu" began in the American Northeast, which turned almost everyone infected with it into mindless killing machines (Zombies). The first recorded outbreak happened in Mercy Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the city in which the first group lived. The infection took hold quickly and within a few days the entire city was in chaos and had been quarantined by CEDA, an organization which was trying to find a cure for the infection. Bill, Francis, Zoey, and Louis are four immune survivors who survived the initial outbreak and escaped the city two weeks after the outbreak began. By that time the virus had begun mutating (Special Infected) and spread over the entire Northeast. CEDA had failed at containing it and the Army stepped in with their own solution to the problem. Bill, Francis, Zoey, and Louis went from evac point to evac point over the next week until they were rescued by the military and taken to a special base in the country. There they learned that while they were immune, they could still spread the virus to other people and infect them (Called "Carriers"). Before the Army could experiment on them they escaped the base as it was swarmed by infected, during which Bill left dozens of soldiers, and even another Carrier, to die in the battle so his group could escape. Bill gave his life to save his group a day or so later so they could escape the mainland on a sailboat that was stocked with supplies. Zoey, Francis, and Louis survived and found an uninhabited island where they were safe from the infected. They managed to survive.
By the time of Bill's death, three weeks after the first infection, the virus had already spread to the American South and in all likelihood the rest of the country or even continent and the military was completely unable to stop it. The virus had mutated even more, resulting in more specials. A second group of survivors (Coach, Nick, Ellis, and Rochelle, also Carriers but they are unaware of this) met up when they missed an evacuation out of Savannah. They discovered that the last evacuation point on the East Coast was New Orleans, where the military was taking people to a fleet of ships offshore and preparing to abandon the mainland. As they head south from Savannah, they meet the first group a day or so after Bill's death. After finally reaching New Orleans a few days after setting out they discovered that it was overrun and the military was bombing the town to hold off the infected while they escaped. There the military had begun executing Carriers, or even people who were suspected of being Carriers, as the situation got out of hand. Despite suspecting that the same fate will befall them, military rescue is the only option left to them. The last we see of them they are being flown out of the city in a military helicopter after being labeled as Carriers by the rescue team, and their ultimate fate is currently unknown. That's most of it with a few of the less important parts left out.

I'm ALWAYS Nick in L4D2's campaign. ALWAYS.
And in L4D1 campaigns, I usually use Louis but I use Bill sometimes, but reserve that character for Rock.

I'm always Zoey for L4D1 campaigns cause I have DF's Fiona mod for her. And they kinda sound similar so that's a plus.
For L4D2 I don't really care, but TC always takes Nick and Rock always takes Coach, so I'm left with Ellis or Rochelle.

Lot of love for Coach in the poll but that's no surprise given his VA and the original subject of this forum. Nobody likes Ellis, apparently. Or Zoey.
Never thought I'd see the day when Rochelle had more votes than Zoey. Breaks my heart.

Never thought I'd see the day when Rochelle had more votes than Zoey. Breaks my heart. I mean, there are 4 votes for original characters, and 8 for new cast. Who would even want to play as Rochelle
