So I said that I'd make this thread last night since I couldn't find a thread for Alien anywhere else on the forum. Here is where we discuss all things Alien. I've only played (And beaten) Isolation and watched the first movie, but I'm looking to correct that within the week. I've heard that the series gets pretty shitty after a certain point, so should I continue watching the movies after the second one?

I haven't even seen or played any Alien games besides the 2010 AVP game. I've had Isolation since Christmas for the Xbone, but I still haven't played it.

One of the most immersive and atmospheric games I've played in recent years. The only downsides being the ending, the needlessly long length, and some interesting characters not being used to their full potential.

I've heard that the series gets pretty shitty after a certain point, so should I continue watching the movies after the second one? NO!!!! Don't watch anything past Aliens, watch the second movie, its fantastic! It has so many likable side characters and action, its like Terminator 2, its just fantastic! James Cameron directed Aliens, he also did T2, that's maybe why. Alien 3 is where it all went down, its not the worst, I mean hell Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister) is in it, but, well, I would be spoiling a hell of a lot to tell you why, but trust me, its not good. Alien Resurrection is pretty bad, not much to say, and then you get into the AVP series, which is really not canon anyway but fuck it! You also got Aliens Colonial Marines, the infamously bad Gearbox game that felt like bad fan fiction and played even worse then that level. So yeah, the series kind of sucks after Aliens, or Alien 2 if you prefer, Isolation is the best thing to happen to the series since the 90s!

I got Isolation a while ago(around the time that it came out) and just got back into it recently, and I'm glad I did. It's so good. There are bad things about it though. I was actually thinking recently, while playing a certain level in Hotline Miami, that every great game always has one level that's just shitty and not like the others. Then in Alien:Isolation later the same day, I got to the part where you play as Marlow in his heavy-ass space suit in a flashback. Fuck that part. Maybe it'd be good as part of a movie, but fuck walking around in that heavy fucking space suit for so long with no weapons and no danger, walking very slowly and not able to run. One thing the game is good at is tricking me into attacking people I shouldn't be attacking. As in, sometimes I see characters who are actually friends/allies, but I sneak up and attack them, thinking they're crazy motherfuckers like everyone else. And I like that, it teaches me to be more careful and think about who's who. And it really feels great to watch someone try to shoot you, then get killed by the alien, having attracted it with their gunshots, then the alien returning to the vents as you're hiding.

I enjoyed that level playing as Marlow. It's far from the best part of the game but the way it recreated those same scenes from the first movie was pretty damn good. Plus, I'd just watched Alien for the first time the day before, so that might have had something to do with the way I liked it. Though I will agree that on replays that level sucks.
