Been playing Starbound. It's SO fucking good (once you get past the tutorial). Playing that game on hardcore is so fucking cool. Seriously one of my fav games ATM.

Haven't gotten too far right now, though. Just defeated the first boss. Definitely not playing on hardcore, I die very often.

Haven't gotten too far right now, though. Just defeated the first boss. Definitely not playing on hardcore, I die very often. I honestly couldn't imagine this game being fun without Hardcore mode. The entire "Big dangerous adventure" motif seems pointless without permadeath. If you can just get back everything, then what's the point? What's the punishment of death. When my best Hardcore run died, I not only lost the armor he was wearing, I lost his tech, I lost his ship (which I spent about an hour customizing, no joke), I lost his pet, his colony tenant, EVERYTHING. That was the end of his story. If it just kept going, then I wouldn't have ANY fun whatsoever with this game. The combat especially. The combat has good mechanics, but if I didn't DIE when I died, I would not find it at all tense, because even if I lost ALL the items I was carrying (and your characters carry an INSANE amount of important stuff), I could always just go and get it back. The only time your items might be too hard to get is when they're in lava, and lava is like NEVER there. The first boss is super cool though. I'm excited to see the rest of the bosses, if I ever make it there.

Hardcore just isn't for me.

Hardcore just isn't for me. Well I play the game for the life-or-death style of fear. The one that says, "Holy shit holy shit holy shit go go go!" Without a real punishment, without the tension, Starbound is just farming for the next tier of items. It's fun when I encounter a new race of aliens on a more difficult planet, and I have to learn and adapt so I don't die. That need for adaptation is very much lessened when the only thing you really lose when you die is a few seconds going back to the planet.

First Hardcore Mode I ever played in a video game was back in ye olden days of Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction. It was a five Act game, with each Act taking several hours and having a lot of annoying enemies (For instance, an enemy that would shoot lightning in all directions once you damaged it. These would appear in swarms and in tight, claustrophobic areas/passages. Dad and I nicknamed them "Lightning Bugs") and if you died once it'd straight up delete your character, no matter how far you got, and all the loot/XP/whatever that they had on them. Obviously. My Dad made it all the way to Act 2 before he got fucked by the final boss of that act. That final boss was such a douche. That alone was enough to disuade me from taking my own Hardcore character farther than I already had.
The first hardcore mode I actually completed was Fallout: New Vegas, but that hardcore mode isn;t really all that impressive. It's more like kids stuff in comparison to other games, such as my above example.

I's be willing to join in on a Hardcore run here and there(school started, in a lot of AP classes, so i can't guarantee I'd be playing it at all a lot) with a hardcore character separate from my main character. don't expect me to make it very far, though.

Any douche bosses? Bosses that, say, run twice as fast as you can ever hope to, slow you to around 30% of your own normal speed with one of their lightning fast melee attacks, attack you in small confined areas with no way out until you kill them, and have twelve metric fucktons of health? Because that's what happened in Diablo 2. 14 years later he still appears in my nightmares, asking me if I'm looking for Baal before disemboweling me/my father with his icy, insectoid claws. If not, then I'll think about it.

I've only fought one boss, and while it had ONE douche move, which it used it literally one hit from death, and at that point in the game, you should be carrying a shield anyways. The bosses seem pretty clever.

Been playing Starbound. It's SO fucking good (once you get past the tutorial). Playing that game on hardcore is so fucking cool. Seriously one of my fav games ATM. I remember this a few years ago. You and I used to play it for awhile. I haven't played it though since the Novakids came out, and I uninstalled it since I've been busy with YouTube and Telltale stuff. The only thing I remember was I had a Hylotl named Waverider and e was awesome.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Morder is on sale this weekend for $20, so I picked it up. Installing now. I've heard good things about it.
EDIT: it's the GOTY edition that's on sale, with all the DLC stuff. Regular version doesn't seem to be available in the store. Oh well, more things to do.
