I picked up the first compilation book of Lumberjanes. Gonna dive into it tomorrow night. Tell me how it is, I've been meaning to get into it for a while now.

So I wasn't really sure what to think of the first arc of All-Star Batman (My Own Worst Enemy). It felt a little too over-the-top and of course nothing really changes and it'll probably go down as being one of the best Two-Face stories and probably the worst thing Two-Face has ever done, but... eh, it didn't click with me.
Reading the first Mr. Freeze All-Star Batman story yesterday(Ends of the Earth), I realized that probably why My Own Worst Enemy didn't click with me is because I'm not a huge fan of John Romita Jr.'s art work. I love Jock's art, and I actually really liked how the whole issue was just narration (Snyder does best when he's writing prose as opposed to comic book-y dialogue). Anyway, I think I'll like Ends of the Earth better(though I'm unclear if just the first issue was Mr. Freeze and then it's going to go to Poison Ivy? Because it seems that way from the covers but it ended on a cliffhanger for Freeze's story.
Also, Outcast continues to be incredible.

Nice, I'll have to check it out after I finish The Fade Out and Paper Girls.
(The Fade Out is a really good noir story, haven't started Paper Girls yet)

Ok so here's a thing - the comic posters from Howe's Hardware in TWDG2. I know some of them are real like Outcast and stuff, but I think some are fake too (like that Catman and Mouse-woman one. That can't be real unless it's parodic):

That can't be real unless it's parodic): they're probably fake but they could easily be characters from Capes or Guarding the Globe or one of the other lame Invincible Spin-offs. I mean, Super Dinosaur and Science Dog are real comics, so, I'm not counting it out. But no, that's the only one I don't recognize. All of the others are real comics published by Skybound (Combat Clam is a reference to Wyatt's shirt in 400 Days though, right? Unless that was also referencing something...)

I'm not much of a comic guy but the recent Team Fortress 2 comic is absolutely fantastic. They always do such a good job on the comics but this one is especially really good.

I'm really bored so I'm going to post a thing probably no one cares about: That being, ranking my favorite of the "Bat Kids". The main 9, anyway. 9. Tim Drake a.k.a Red RobinI don't know, I just... don't like him. In general, I guess. Maybe it's because he's the one I know the least about? Because he's such a show-off? Has no interesting intereactions with anyone? Seriously, the most interesting he's been is after he's died(except not really). 8. Damien Wayne a.k.a RobinDamian is a prick. Like, he's an entertaining character with a lot of fun interactions and relationships with other characters. He's conflicted and genuinely interesting to follow in the Teen Titans series, and it is kind of fun to see his narcissism and ego class against the need to work with a team. But he's still a prick. 7. Jason Todd a.k.a Red Hood6. Stephanie Brown a.k.a The SpoilerSteph's thing is that she's the most inexperienced member of the Bat-Family. She doesn't really have a specific skill set, and would probably lose in a fight to just about any of them. Which, is something I honestly find interesting, exploring the weakest link of a team as a character. But they don't really do that with her. Also, she's the bubbly joke-y fun one, and that works about 50% of the time. Sometimes it's endearing, sometimes it's annoying. 5. Cassandra Cain a.k.a OrphanOrphan is the most skilled member of the team, trained since youth to be a killing machine, and learning nothing else of humanity. Which they actually do do something with, and make her an interesting character. Like, how she interacts with the rest of the world when she's had basically no experience with it, that's actually interesting. Also, she's a total badass. However, I haven't read much featuring her, so... yeah. 4. Duke Thomas a.k.a So I guess his codename is going to be revealed in All-Star Batman #9. Anyway, Duke is a pretty cool character. A kid from the Narrows who started his own Robin street gang to fight crime without Batman, who eventually became Batman's partner after Joker's attack in Endgame. He hasn't interacted much with the Bat-Family, so it'll be interesting to see how he eventually fits in and what his dynamic with the others is. For now, yeah, he's cool, just outside my top 3. 3. Dick Grayson a.k.a NightwingWow that's a big picture. Whatever, it's cool. Anyway, Dick is by far my favorite of the Robins. Like Duke, he's just a fun character. It's also fun to see his solo adventures, how he gets by in the world just as Dick Grayons, and how he gets by as a superhero without Batman. The more recent comics having been playing with the idea of how Dick handles morally grey situations, as he has a very black and white view of the world and of morality, and it's been some pretty good stuff. Harper Row a.k.a Bluebird
Harper Row is awesome. Kind of like Duke, she's from the Narrows(i.e. the bad part of Gotham) and was inspired by Batman to fit crime. She's also an electrician/engineer, so while she's got about as much training as Steph(i.e. none) as far as fighting or detective skills or anything, she has a bunch of cool gadgets. For a long time, she was just kind of running around in the background of the main Batman series, and regularly saved his life when he got too in over his head. Determined to be trained by Batman and continually proving herself to him. Eventually, he agreed to train her... and then he died(long story, he got better), so she still just kind of kept doing her own thing. So far, she's pretty much only been a background character. In Batman, in Batgirl of Burnside, in the "Eternal" crossover comics, but she's still really cool because she's determined to help people and prove herself and she manages to be one of the most skilled members of the team mostly through jerry-rigged electronics. 1. Barbara Gordon a.k.a BatgirlSo I actually started reading superhero comics about a year ago with Batgirl of Burnside so I do feel like I have something of a.... I don't want to say a connection to, but yeah, I really love the Batgirl of Burnside arc and Batgirl/Babs as a character. It's really awesome to see her as the problem solver of the group, and while it does kind of mean her villains are a little lame(the A.I. version of her from Batgirl of Burnside kind of stands out to me, like, it made for a good tough situation, but not so much a good villain)(The Fugue has no such excuse, he was a cool villain until his lame backstory was revealed), it's really cool to see how she uses her intellect and eidetic memory to get out of various scenarios. Plus, alongside Dick and Duke, she's one of the fun characters, and alongside Dick, one of the few where it's just as interesting to read about her as an actual person as it is to read about her as a superhero. Plus, she has the strongest supporting cast out of any of these characters that have their own solo series'. Outside of maybe Damian because he's got the Teen Titans but we'll see how that goes.

Where I'm at right now with DC:
Batman:
I actually really loved the latest issue. Like, seriously, that was such an amazing issue(Issue 18 if anyone cares). Like, I mostly don't give a shit about Bane, I think he's a really boring villain/character... but this issue made me care about him. So, that's kind of impressive. But as a whole? Don't care about Catwoman AT ALL. I hate this version of Selina, I hate Bruce's relationship with her, I hate everything about anything relating to her in this series. The stuff with the Robins is pretty good, but mostly I'm interested to see what happens with Claire.
Detective:
So I kind of got "spoiled" for the latest arc, but I guess Lady Shiva is Cassandra's mom. Alright. Detective is still consistently the best Batman book(of Batman, Detective, and All-Star Batman to be clear), so... yeah, I don't know I've got much more to add there. Love the characters, love the storylines, I especially love the world-building... all good stuff. I kind of hope this puts a close to the Colony/League of Shadows stuff though, I'd rather start focusing on Azrael and the Church of St. Dumas, the aftermath of the Night of the Monster Men, and the upcoming "Wrath of Spoiler" storyline. And I really want Harper to join the team as Bluebird, but I'm pretty sure at this point that it'll happen when Scott Snyder takes over the main Batman series for his big crossover event during the Summer.
All-Star Batman:
Good stuff. I was a little skeptical of the "Ends of the Earth" storyline focusing on a villain per issue, but it's actually been better so far than "My Own Worst Enemy", which gave one villain five issues. To be honest, I'm not sure how to approach the last two issues though... I loved the Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy storylines mostly because I love Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy... but I really don't care about Mad Hatter or Ra's Al Ghul. I am excited though that the next 5-issue arc will have Rafael Albuquerque as the artist.
Nightwing:
Still really good. Being honest, a little bit of the latest storyline is lost on me because I still have trouble caring about Dick's relationship with Shawn, so.... I mean, I'm on board for now, but there's a part of me that's just waiting for her to be killed off or something so Dick can be with Babs. I will saw: the evil Nightwing("Deathwing") wearing his N52 costume is... an interesting development.
Batgirl:
So I really, really hated "Beyond Burnside". It was pointless, poorly written, and even Rafael Albuquerque couldn't save it with his artwork. Ever since the Poison Ivy one-shot though, it's been really good. The old Batgirl of Burnside supporting cast is(mostly) back(still waiting for Qadir to show up again...), and there's a consistent tone to the book now. Also, I actually like Ethan Cobblepot as a character. I don't know, it's still pretty early, but for right now, I'm kind of 50/50 on Batgirl Rebirth.
Batgirl and the Birds of Prey:
This book though? This book I hate. It's awful. Painfully trying to be "hip" and "cool" but just being annoying in the process, awful dialogue, scattershot plot, and it totally fucks up the group dynamics. I'm only still reading it in the hope that it might turn around like the main Batgirl series. I don't know, maybe once they start introducing characters like Poison Ivy or Katana, if they ever decide to do that...
Teen Titans:
So Teen Titans just wrapped up their first arc and... okay, so remember the original Teen Titans tv show? Yeah, it's basically like that but with two big differences: Damien Wayne replacing Dick Grayson as Robin and Wally West as Kid Flash replacing Cyborg. Basically what this means, you remember how Robin was kind of arrogant and pushy as the leader? Yeah, Damien is like that x100. Kind of annoying, but also kind of endearing, and it gives him some really great moments with Beast Boy. Wally West is basically a rookie who's new to the whole super hero thing and also to even being on a team and... so far that's actually his entire character. Starfire, Raven, and Beast Boy are basically more or less like they were in the show. So... yeah, it's like the Teen Titans show... which means it's fucking great.
Batwoman:
There's one issue. Good so far, but I have nothing to really say. Hopefully we see Renee Montoya as The Question because that'd be cool.
Super Sons:
There's one issue. Good so far. I really like Jon/Superboy as a character. I... still don't really like Damien.
Red Hood and the Arsenal:
Mostly reading this because my brother is reading it. But yeah, it's good. I like the dynamic between Red Hood and Bizzaro. Not a fan of Artemis yet though.
I think that's it. I think that's all I'm reading.

So Marvel keeps turning characters into Nazis and having the heroes fight each other and I'm sure glad I don't read Marvel comics because otherwise that'd probably be really upsetting.

Yeah everytime I hear about a Marvel comic announcement its something dumb and I shake my head. Honestly Marvel should just stop with comics and go full one movies and TV shows. DC on the other hand should stop doing movies and just stick to comics, animated movies, and games.

Basically, yeah, it sucks that both are failing in one area. Ideally, I'd like to see them both at the top of their game.
