I thought how it was funny how Morgan intercepted Nick's moves after they were left alone with the wrecked van. Dick move by Nick to bail on him without at least tossing him his weapon, and leave the horn blaring.
I'm a little surprised that Madison wants to bring Charlie back in with them after she double-crossed them. Even now, she uses one of their radios for the Vultures to listen in on them during their supply run. I understand what Nick is saying about trying to do the right thing, yet things end up worse. It just sucks. The up close look on his face when he killed that Vulture guy was a little scary.
I do like that he and Morgan at least tried to get along. Right up until Nick got shot by Charlie. God damn it! No, not Nick! He was another one of my favorites! First Travis, and now... fucking hell! That was so messed up. Does Madison really still want that kid back in?

Ballsy move to kill that character (and just like THAT) but like... why? What purpose does it serve?

If one of my favorite characters from a show I really like dies and I feel nothing but frustration at the writers, then it's a shitty death.

Nick murdered Alicia's boyfriend to keep a psychopathic killer alive (even tho he was the best character) he can rot in hell for all I care It's still stupid from a writing standpoint. Even if they retroactively make this interesting or meaningful through the flashback sequences, it's still awful pacing at the very best. Like, you don't put the end of what is clearly a long and complicated arc that will be explained throughout the course of the season in episode 3. That's just.... stupid.
What bugs me even more is they were setting up a relationship between Morgan and Nick similar to Eastman and Morgan's relationship, but it gets "subverted" so we can have the surprise of Nick's death. But like... we've done this before. We've done literally the same thing before with that Benjamin kid or whatever his name was, where Morgan was in "All life is precious" mode but not fully, and then he goes into "Clear" mode because someone he was gonna be a mentor to dies unexpectedly. Killing Nick here, in this way, doesn't serve as a resolution to his arc because we haven't seen it. It doesn't primarily serve to further Alicia, Strand, or Luciana's arcs(though it certainly does to some extent) because they're not the POV characters in the Present Day sequences. It primarily serves as a typical TWD shock value death, and to further Morgan's arc. But we've done this same exact arc for Morgan in the past. It would have been far more interesting to see the Mentor-Student arc actually play out rather than being cut short for the second time.

I think it's cool that the writers went for a realistic type death. And there was fatal consequences for the characters' actions. But yeah, the lack of linearity in the storyline kinda hurts it. I don't really mind either way. I'm interested in how it impacts the characters down the road.

Finals and all. Gotta overanalyze everything when my mind is in the mode :P

I'm just not a huge fan of this season outside of the fantastic premiere (probably because it barely featured the Fear characters who have mostly all been changed completely from Season 3 and we STILL DON'T KNOW what's happened to them since the ending of it.)

At least we get to see Nick one last time during the flashbacks.
I liked Alicia and Naomi's trip to the waterpark. One advantage to being in places like those during the apocalypse is that there's no lines to wait in. Does Alicia not have her butterfly knife anymore? And now we see how she got her new weapon. You know, somehow I knew that Naomi was gonna do something to screw Alicia over. But she wasn't able to actually leave.
I feel really bad for them all. Strand, Alicia and Luciana all had their ideas of leaving, but they decided against them, which lead to horrible consequences; Nick's death.
"Sniff before you bite". Haha, good advice, Strand. The fact that Naomi was really Laura the whole time was a real shocker. Did she shoot herself? What happened at the stadium? What happened to Madison? So many questions.

So... Can we say Gimple fucked it up already? :P He's not the showrunner and he only wrote the first episode i.e. the best one, so no, I'm more inclined to blame the current showrunners. Or, just in general whoever's idea it was to split the storyline into past and present like this, and also to kill Nick, and whoever wrote episode 4 bc it was painfully heavy-handed and full of awkward dialogue and weird pacing. All that said, I am looking forward to next week's episode bc it's a John and Morgan solo episode, and they've been the best characters so far.
