Also, so I understand, their original IP will be the first of these "Super Shows"?
Now, I'm going to type this as I read the article.
Most important thing that Bruner is promising here is that it will be integrated as well as it possibly can. Now, we don't have details, but for me, this is the most important thing. It could work, taking TV Show style production and video game style production.
What I'm taking from this, is that it's not what Remedy is doing. To my understanding, Quantum Break will have gameplay broken up by episodes of a live-action TV Show. So, for ever 2 hours or whatever length of gameplay, we get 30 minutes or an hour of TV Show.
As far as this goes for Quantum Break, I'm okay with this. Will it be the next big thing? Hell no. It's interesting as a one time project, however, and I think it could be good.
What I'm getting from this article is that that's not what a "Super Show" will be. Kevin Bruner is not talking about interactive bits broken up by non-interactive bits, he's talking about trying to integrate them together. How in the world that will work, I'm not sure, but I'm glad that they aren't going with what Remedy is doing, which I think is what has a lot of people worried. Still, it does seem like a big risk.
He also talks about it being the "natural evolution" of their studio. Which, kind of makes sense. Adventure games to Interactive Show to.... Super Shows? We'll see if it works as well as TWD, TWAU, TFTB, and GoT have...
And, yes, confirmation, the as of yet unconfirmed Original IP will be the first, and if it's a success, then they'll be expanding it to their usual licensed games(Mad Men - A Telltale and AMC Super Show. True Detective - A Telltale and HBO Super Show. Please, make it happen).
And, maybe I was confused about what a Super Show was. Now, they talk about each part being experienced on their own...... It seems like a "Super Show" is both a TV Series that would actually air on a network, and a game where you can make choices. I still have no idea what this would entail exactly. Seems like it will be a little closer to what Remedy is doing, but on a much, much larger scale. Also, this explains partnering with Lionsgate, I guess.
He talks about wanting such Super shows possibly being considering for both Game of the Year and Golden Globe. So, they've got some real ambition. whether it will pay off or make them crash and burn... we'll see....
I am just getting more confused.... and oddly hyped. Not sure how to take this.... So I'll just quote it:
So, to my understanding, they will, at first, be released as these package TV Show/Game combos. Play the game first, and it changes the TV Show(How they will accomplish this, I don't know.... But, I'm oddly hyped for it).
At a later date, it will be released on streaming services and network TV, without the interactive portion of it(obviously). He says that even though it will be missing the interactive portion, it will still be able to stand up on it's own as a top-notch piece of entertainment.
Also, vaugely hinting at a future series based on a Lionsgate IP. *cough*MadMen*cough*
Also, even going forward with the "Super Show" project, they will continue with games they way they have now. So that's good.

I think I'm looking forward to this. The way it's described.... well, I'm not exactly expecting it to crash and burn right form the get go, but I am approaching it with some apprehension. Still, mostly looking forward for more info on this.

I'm sorry to say, but I feel like your shooting for the stars when you should be just hitting the bullseye on the target in front of you!

All I am saying is, do they understand how movies think about games? For the love of god almighty, they don't think much of animated films, but even then they still think better of it then video games, this is not going to change anyone's opinion. There is a good reason Irrational never tried to get Infinite for an Oscar, because they knew how futile that would be, besides, is sacrificing gameplay to this degree, is it truly worth all of that for maybe getting a different type of award? I don't know, I can't say I am optimistic on this project.

I'm sorry to say, but I feel like your shooting for the stars when you should be just hitting the bullseye on the target in front of you! When did they ever saw they wanted Academy Awards? They're working with TV. And, I don't think it's completely unreasonable to hope for a Golden Globe at some point in the future. Telltale are already masters of writing, and Lionsgate has made some of the best TV Shows ever. I mean, for one, Mad Men. With Lionsgate backing them, I've got to think that whatever they deliver will be top-notch. The idea of playing the episode like a normal Telltale episode, and then seeing your choices change the TV Series.... It's got me interested, at least. And, again, with a massive company like Lionsgate backing them up, I've got to think that it's at least feasible. They already hit the bull's eye in front of them. Multiple times. Even with Walking Dead: Season Two. We may not have liked it as much as S1, but it did great, it even won a couple Game of the Year awards(not nearly as many as the first Season, but it still succeeded). This is the next step, this is how they evolve the concept. And, here's something, if it does well, then what do you think happens to the public opinion of video games as a whole? This is really something big. And, yeah, there's a good chance that Telltale will fail, but I'm not going to immediately say that the project is doomed. I'm going to keep an eye on it, and see how they move forwards from here.

I didn't think about that, and GOOD publicity is something gaming NEEDS NOW!!! So on that ground, I hope it works, but I can't say I am enthralled by the idea.

My prediction is that Lionsgate, Telltale, or whichever TV station is airing the series will host the TV portion of the series online with some streaming service similar to Netflix, and will offer players the option to sync their Telltale Games accounts to show variations of the Television show episodes that have a few "tailored" scenes that people will view based on choices they made in the Telltale game if they played it. Similar to a Telltale game, the overall story for the TV show episodes will be the same, but again just like a Telltale game, they will probably shoot several minor variations of scenes for TV shows that account for the consequences of different player choices. The player choices would be accessed from your Telltale Games account data. Episodes for the TV show will probably release in a larger quantity and much quicker than the Telltale episodes, and since Telltale episodes will be lesser in quantity, they will probably try to create more impactful player choices that can last for tailored scenes in multiple episodes of the TV show until Telltale can release their next episode. Despite this, I imagine they will try to synchronize releases of a new Telltale episode with a TV show episode as soon as they can.
If people don't buy the game, then they can just watch the show digitally with a default and/or randomized selection of tailored scenes for the TV show. If you only play the Telltale game, then... well... you only play the Telltale game and that's that.

Although, one big problem I can see coming is the syncing of your Telltale account. Because it's already broken pretty badly. Unless they fix it, I wouldn't dare rewind or play on multiple saves, because as of right now, it just seems to confuse the system entirely. For the moment, it seems that they're only using it for dispalying minor choices on their website, so it's fine for now.... But they really need to get it working perfectly before they launch their original "Super Show".

Super Show as a name for this new format sounds kind of... generic. I think a name like "Cross Media Series," "Interactive Television," or "Tailored Television" would sound more professional for such a potentially innovative concept.

Tailored Television would work best, I think. I actually saw the Super Show thing on twitter while in school during a study hall, but when I clicked on it, the link was blocked form the school's wifi. Because of how it was worded, I actually thought that "Super Show" was the name of Telltale's new original IP, and that it would be a comedic super-hero thing like Invincible.

Are you only talking about viewing extra choices on the Website once you switch your save file in game? If so, I wouldn't think that would harm your actual save file - the system just currently seems to "fill in the blanks" with extra choices from other save files (or not display them at all) instead of finding a way to access all the choices you made for each entire episode from the same save file. I think that's something that the web team should be working to improve in the future, but I don't know that for certain.

I was lightly skimming Twitter and actually thought the same thing. Again, Super Show could probably be given a better title as it currently sounds like a game title of its own.
