Okay, anyone looking for something along the lines of True Detective Season One, Blues and Bullets seems to have you covered.
It's an interactive narrative by A Crowd of monsters that's a mix between True Detective Season One, Bioshock, and L.A. Noire.
The True detective bit comes in with the fact that it's about a cult, missing children, and ritualistic murders, and aside form the actual story, it just sort of has a very True Detective S1 feel to it. L.A. Noire comes in in that there are shooting and investigation parts that are actually really good, and it takes place in about the same time period. Bioshock comes in in that it's alternate history, and it does have some sci-fi elements, but they don't seem to out of place somehow. the comparison really is driven home though by the fact that "A. Ryan" is the guy who created the Hindenburg Hotel.
I don't want to spoil too much about the story, but you play as retired Police commissioner Elliot Ness who's recruited to find a missing child, which leads him to a ritualistic occult murder, and a conspiracy involving the mafia. The voice acting is pretty great, the characters and dialogue are well written, and the art-style is fantastic. I'd really suggest that anyone looking for something similar to True Detective Season One after the mess that was Season Two check it out.

The perfect mix far as I am concerned, though I always found it strange that Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite are considered alternate history. They don't really change much, barely any for Bioshock 1, Infinite just added the building of a floating city, nothing else. So I suppose its alternate history, but its pretty minimum actually.

www.gamespot.com/articles/why-true-detective-season-two-failed-according-to-/1100-6433551/So, the President of Programming for HBO admits that he put time restrains on Season Two of True Detective, and takes the blame for that being the reason why it was less than great. He basically forced Nic Pizzolatto to do a second season after the first was a success, even though Pizzolatto originally had no intentions of a second season immediatly following Season One. That being said, he's still signed on to develop more projects for HBO in the future. But, Season Two being rushed kind of makes sense....

I liked Season 2. Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell were fantastic.

A trailer for some random ass HBO show or special or mini-series aired before the premiere of Game of Thrones a few weeks ago and for half of it I was convinced it was True Detective dropping a trailer for a secret 3rd season out of nowhere.
Got me thinking... that's exactly what the show needs right now, right? A 3rd season that has absolutely no hype. Season 2 may have been killed before it even got started because of the enormous hype surrounding it thanks to season 1's greatness and the announced cast of A-listers. If they filmed the next season in secrecy, even if it lacked starpower, I think it could provide big dividends. I guess the question is whether it would be possible to do that or not.

I would also recommend getting a new writer, or wishing upon a star for Fukinowa to come back. But that isn't a bad idea.

The problem was that HBO kind of forced him into doing a second season when he didn't really have any plans for it after the success of the first. (I believe the writer, Nic Pizzolatto, said something along those lines in an interview, that HBO kind of pressured him into doing a second season and he didn't want to leave True Detective, so even though he had no plans for it originally, he did the second season.)

I don't know, I read that Fukinowa and Pizzolatto fought quite a lot back in season 1. Fukinowa wrote quite a bit as well, and directed every episode. I don't know, part of me thinks Fukinowa was the reason Season 1 was so great, and Pizzolatto was one of the reasons season 2 sucked along with being forced into doing it.

Dragging Rust Cohle back reeks of desperation.
Milch's involvement has me intrigued though. I gotta get back into Deadwood. Just kinda stopped watching at the beginning of season 2 and I don't know why. Show was dope.

Well I'm mixed on that, on one hand Milch is a great showrunner, Deadwood is an amazing show. And I don't trust Pizzolatto without Cary Fukunaga so this is good. But bringing back Rust and probably Marty? Eh..... seems a bit HEY YOU LIKED THESE CHARACTERS!?!?! WANT MORE!?!?!

Guys, I miss Taylor Kitsch. You are probably the only person on this planet that will say that.
