Overall, a solid 7/10. But I still think that might be a little generous.
The problems with S2 kinda outweigh its strengths. Amidst questionable writing, characters being used as plot devices, and opportunities being wasted, I think the first and foremost problem I had with this season was Clem being the PC. She was a great character in S1 and we should've seen how our choices in the first season affected her. When we make the choices as her, we don't see this. Her being the protagonist limited the narrative and I thought it was a mistake. I might've been more lenient towards her being the PC if it wasn't for that god-forsaken timeskip. It was just an excuse for the writers to change her character so that the player can mold her character whatever way they wanted.
The writers in S2 seemed to have a different mentality than those of S1. In S1, the writers made characters, developed them, and then ended most of their stories on a satisfying note. The S2 writers think TWD is all brutal and shocking, attributed to most of the character deaths. It's gotten bad up to the point where its blatant nihilism is apparent through the writing. Nick, Sarah, and Carver (to name a few) all had promising storylines, but were botched seemingly for the writers to say, "Hey guys, look how dark and brutal we are!"
Season two had some good points, though. Them being A House Divided and No Going Back. They were the two episodes in which hubs weren't put on the back burner, and they had some pretty nice writing. I'd even argue that Amid the Ruins was pretty nice if it wasn't for those weak character deaths.
All in all, I doubt I'm going to play S3 if Clem remains the PC. I'd like the story to show a different group of survivors for a change. If not, then it's going to be hard to see season three being any different than it featuring an older and edgier Clem and re-hashing the storyline of season two.
