Alright, I played maybe 2-3 hours of the game. It's really fuckin' good. I decided to roll with a custom Ryder, as opposed to when I actually play through it on PS4 (since the game doesn't run as well as I'd like on PC. Low settings gets 45-60 FPS but doesn't look very good. Medium is very jumpy, going from 15 to 30 randomly, but usually stays at 30 or so. Anyways, back to my custom Ryder.... Yeah, the character customization is pretty disappointing. I wasn't able to make a super ugly one, I really had to use a bunch of makeup. Under the makeup and green hair, he looks like a normal dude. You can't face sculpt. You choose from presets. I will say though... the Dad looks fuckin' badass. Anyways, the first mission alone took me like 2 hours. There's several optional tasks to do in the mission that are mostly all interesting. Then, after that you get to hang out at the Nexus, which is pretty much the Citadel for Andromeda. It's really cool and there's alot of people to talk to. All interesting characters. The squadmates are really cool so far, Cora and Liam are both likable squadmates. I just met Vetra but her introduction scene was cool. I have yet to run into the other three companions. No idea what the fuck that reviewer was talking about (the one that Rock posted about), the game is great imo. Wait, you have to take presets like KOTOR back in the day and not, well, like the previous Mass Effect design options? Why would you dial that back??? You choose a preset and then can edit that preset by making him thinner etc, but the preset determines his eyes, eyebrows, complexion and general bone structure, if that makes any sense, apparently they're looking into updating it post launch.

That customization is, frankly, pretty awful. Bioware has never had the greatest character creator but jeez, this seems almost like a deliberate step backward*.

That's... really bad, because back in Mass Effect you could just, well, you know, just use a slider to change things. It was hardly Fallout 4 when it came to appearance but that was leagues beyond this.

I did pretty much everything there is to do in the trial, and can safely say it's decent, if you liked the old games you'll probably like this one. The only real problems are that the facial animations are fucking horrendous, as is the character creator, and it's a bit buggy, nothing game breaking though. You'll see things like this every now and again: Other than that, Story seems decent, BroRyder's VA does a really good job and your companions seem cool, other than Cora. She's shit. Though I will say it didn't quite have me as invested as the original trilogy did, not entirely sure why, maybe it's all the new characters or that it isn't quite as high stakes, regardless it was pretty enjoyable.

Well coming off of legendary characters like Garrus, Wrex, Grunt, hell basically the entire cast of ME2, its hard to be just good.

Vetra and Drack have massive potential, but I don't think Liam or Cora will even come close to the originals.

Heads up, if you have this on PC you can use a VPN to get it early as fuck by setting your server region to South Korea. For context, I'd otherwise have to wait until the 23rd to play.

Huh.
So while watching a (Spoiler free) first impressions video from some guy I've never heard of, he mentioned that the twins actually have different dialogue options at some points. Like in the same spot in the same conversation, FemRyder will have different options than BroRyder. I'm not sure if that's because of previous choices dictating personality or them actually being different characters, but... it's certainly interested me.

I can confirm that that's a thing, as of right now it only really seems to be with pre established relationships though, for example FemRyder is really close to dad Ryder while BroRyder is really distant from him.

Heads up #2 if you leave your character's first name as Sara/Scott then some people will call them that, which if you don't dislike the names then it'll only add to the immersion.

Yeah the game is good as shit, and there's so many fucking quests, to the extent that I think this is the first time in an RPG that I've been totally overwhelmed by the sheer amount of them. My only real problem with it is it's fairly buggy, and ya know, the shite character creator and facial animations, I also don't like that it doesn't feel nearly as high stakes as the original games, but the first game didn't right up until the end either, so maybe it will at some point. Also you have to fight shit like this, which is fun.

55 hours in, great game. Probably my second favorite in the series after ME:2. Love the world, the characters, the fight system. The animations and technical issues are a bit annoying and distracting at times, but the shitstorm is massively overblown. Give the game a try, the beginning is slow, but after 5-6 hours it picks up the pace and - what can I say, a contender for my game of the year '17.
