The first episode is finished. And I just wanna start off saying, I am really enjoying this new style gameplay Telltale has done and I love all the changes they added.
The exploration this season is better than the old style. And I liked how there was an orange circle for some selectables as a sort of warning to think of the consequences before going through with the action. Which is why I didn't drink from that barrel of water. The unscripted combat is pretty simple enough. Stun, kill, repeat. Using those traps at one point was cool, but I had to be more careful to not let any walkers get too close. The collectibles were a nice addition. I like how we can decorate our room with them. I only managed to get 3 out of 6. Gonna redo the episode sometime soon to find the other 3. Oh, and the recap got all my choices from previous seasons right. I was kinda worried it would goof up one or two.
This episode was great. From being out on the road with AJ, to getting into a car wreck and then ending up at the school with no adults to be found. It's a really cool place. Definitely one that Clem and AJ can call home. Just had to earn my keep first. AJ was a real handful with everyone at first. He kept biting and hitting people every time they approach him from behind. Good reflexes, but bad first impression. Especially with Ruby. One second of first-time meeting, and she came off as a real bitch. Managed to make up later by leading up with a bad joke.
Marlon seemed like a decent guy. Doing what he can to look out for everyone. He even has a dog named Rosie. Clem clearly has PTSD from her encounter with Sam the dog. But with Marlon's help, I was able to learn how to bond with Rosie.
Then there's his best friend, Louis. Nice guy, decent on the piano, but not so subtle. I mean...
I LOVE how you can take a big steaming shit on the memory of that bag of emo piss Gabe Garcia.
"Ever had a boyfriend?"
"NOPE, NEVER."
Remember how I mentioned I never thought Gabe was right for Clem? Yeah, I picked that too when Louis asked that question. The guy is a real comedy relief, but he's trying too hard for my standards. Singing "Oh My Dear Clementine"? Really? Come on, dude. Clever, but seriously...
I like that weapon he uses, though. Real crafty. I actually chuckled when he said that if he turns, he'll make sure Walker Louis eats us first. Yeah, right.
I liked that Clem at least mentioned Javi. Though, he may not get along with Violet since she thinks baseball sucks. Speaking of which, I've really grown to like her. "Victory Violet". HA. That's got a real ring to it. She told me all about Tenn's sisters, Sophia and Minerva. Wish I could've met them. I also found out that she and Minnie were actually a couple. I sure ain't judging, and I'm glad AJ or anyone else isn't either.
Tenn is a good kid, too. A real artist. But, and this sounds bad on my end, I can't stop wondering how he got that mark on his face. I've wanted to ask about that without him in the same room, but never could. And where does AJ get claiming one of his toys as his own? Be nice, man.
But then,
shit gets real. I knew something about Marlon didn't feel right ever since mentioning the "safe area" and after what happened to that Abel guy, I didn't think it'd get so fucked up. Brody confessed that Marlon gave up Tenn's sisters to a group of "raiders" and was planning on doing the same thing to Clem and AJ. And he calls himself a leader. I managed to get Violet to help me against him and then everyone else followed suit. I went for the gun once he was distracted ranting and whining, and beat his ass down. Nice one, Clem. I was gonna make him leave and not come back. But AJ... Goddamn it, what did he just do? Hell of a way to end the episode.
MY RELATIONSHIPS:
- Marlon is
DEAD. Goddamn, AJ. What have you done?
- Brody is
DEAD. She didn't deserve to go like that.
- I left AJ
Hardened. I'm trying to be a good role model, teach him right and wrong, how to maintain morals and all that. But what worries me is that he was satisfied when I attacked Abel.
- I left Violent feeling
Guilty. This, I'm having trouble understanding. She was pleased after I complemented her and flattered after I comforted her in the dorm room. Is she feeling guilty because of my getting involved with her and Brody's conflict?
- I left Louis feeling
Heartbroken. Is that because I shot him down earlier with his question or the fact that his best friend is dead?
- I left Tenn feeling
Bitter. Maybe that has to do with Marlon giving away his sisters to the raiders? I was nice to him the whole time.
The State of the School:
- Omar was glad I checked in on him before dinner.
- Ruby was disgusted when I encouraged AJ's bad manners. I thought I was gonna have to give her shit the whole way through, but one bad joke from AJ and all was good again.
- Mitch was happy to show off his weaponry skills to me. Maybe one day, he'll show me and AJ how to do that. Also, I love how AJ said "Swear" to him the same way young Clem did. Ah, good times.
- I learned how to bond with Rosie with Marlon's help. The only good thing I learned from him.
- Aasim was glad I stopped AJ from reading his journal. He should learn how to read better, but not with someone's personal item.
- Willy was fascinated when I met him for the first time. At least he isn't scared of me.
MY CHOICES:
* I chose to let AJ go through the window in the train station. Even though the couple were walkers, their note said they wanted to be left alone the way they are, and I didn't want to dishonor their wish.
* I convinced AJ to sleep on the bed. If he thinks I'm gonna let him sleep on the floor when there's a perfectly good bed, he's got another thing coming.
* I went fishing with Violet and Brody. Marlon mentioned they would have trouble getting along, so I figured I'd be more helpful there. Also, I really wanted to take AJ on a fishing trip.
* I attacked Abel rather than let him take the food. I did it to protect AJ. I couldn't take the chance of him getting shot by that pothead.
* I appealed to Violet for help against Marlon. Compared to Louis, I feel like she and I have gotten along the most and I figured she'd be my best hope.
