Its kinda just a little thing but I like how AJ repeats your advice from earlier after he shoots Marlon. βWhat? I didnβt hesitate.β Was honestly a really chilling moment. I got "What? I aimed for the head." made me feel like garbage which I think is a good thing? Also I knew Marlon died before I even played but I did NOT expect it to be AJ who killed him, either. The file you read didn't have the choices detailed or something like that?
Personally I'm glad I avoided reading any kind of spoilery stuff (aside from the returning character).

I got "Don't worry, I saved one for myself." when I told him earlier in the episode to save the last bullet for yourself. That was fucking SICK.

Everything about this episode was leaps and bounds above ANF. It was VERY atmospheric. I felt scared in the basement. I felt the monumentality of the final scene. A+ in those regards. The characters already feel real and I want to interact with them again. I like how they've structured Clem as a playable character. Her "badass" dialogue choices aren't easy, humorous picks so it's a lot tougher to have her be an out and out hardened asshole.
Another thing? I thought the voice acting was on point. Feel like it was a bit lacking in ANF.
Probably not a popular opinion, or even something that's seen as a positive to some, but a lot of this episode really reminded me of All That Remains in how it was structured... there's just so much more that happens in it. And ultimately it made me eagerly anticipate more.
Feels so fuckin' good to have at least some hype back for this fuckin' franchise.

The walkers groaning in the background at the start is straight up haunting.

Yeah I definitely see the similarities to All That Remains. Especially with them going hunting. Except where All That Remains felt just... kinda lacking? This felt like it told a complete story that has a lot of momentum going forward, and compelling characters and mysteries to uncover.
By compelling characters, I don't mean that the cabin group wasn't compelling, but only in a sort of surface level way. We barely interacted with any of them, and a lot of the work to really like the characters had to be done sort of on the player's part. It feels like there's just a much more complete idea of the characters and their relationships to Clem and to each other in Done Running.

Like, I was actually spooked when the lightning flashed and you saw Body's walker right behind Clem as she was about to escape.

Yeah yeah fuck yeah the atmosphere is great! Basement scene is the highlight, but I did get some serious nervous tension when the Abel hints started cropping up. It reminded me of when they first hinted at Carver, but instead of GIANT FUCKING PILE OF DEAD BODIES GUNNED DOWN BY CARVER it was just a rolled up bible page that had been smoked as a cigarette and some sabotaged traps. And that suggests a lot about this group; they know how to sabotage a trap, they have some disregard for religion and possibly the morals/ethics suggested by said religion and have abandoned staples of before the apocalypse with extreme apathy, and most importantly they're closing in.
This feels like A) Ericson is what the Cabin group should have been and B) Abel's group is what Carver/Howe's should have been.
I'm honestly feeling if this whole season is really good I'm gonna be really pissed because it means won't be making any more TWD games of this quality.

The basement scene was fucking great. Just, the sheer horror of what Marlon did and the relevations...
Honestly, I like Season 4 better than Season 2 (and obviously 3) already. Also first time in the whole series I was legit creeped out by a walker noise, that loud fucking howl Walker Brody gives out right before Clem uses the ruler to open the hatch was fucking sick.

I was legit shuddering in the whole basement scene. It caught me off guard completely, it was something I wasn't expecting. It's probably what I loved the most about the episode, along with the final scene. Really brilliant atmosphere.

It's too early to say if I like it more than season two, because even when it had its flaws it's a season that I really like, but I sure as hell love it as a standalone episode, and more than ANF as a whole.
This kind of optimism is something I really missed.
