Not 100% sure where I'm going with this or if it's even that much better than season 2, but I'm trying to make the best of a bad situation here.
All That Remains
- Opens the same, but Omid doesn't die. They're approached by multiple bandits instead of just whatsherface. When Clementine, Omid & Christa refuse to cooperate, one of the bandits hits Christa in the stomach and Omid goes berserk, killing one of them. In the ensuing chaos Clementine puts down a living person.
- Post-timeskip things are just as rough and Omid/Christa have lost their optimism. Christa is pregnant even though Clem is 11 here - during this scene Omid is overprotective of Christa who is worried about the pregnancy and it is slowly implied that they lost the original baby and are frightened for the implications of this one.
- Winston/Ralph/Victor attack like they did before, Clementine is split from Omid/Christa as before. Offscreen Omid is heard telling Christa to run, gunshots echo through the forest as Winston chases Clementine. Like before, Clementine could simply run or throw a rock to distract the bandits.
- After falling in the river, Clementine wanders through the woods. Instead of what happened with Sam, lack of food/energy catches up to her, she collapses as walkers close in and is rescued by Pete and Luke.
- Pete and Luke take her to the cabin, where she meets Nick, Carlos and Sarah. Rebecca and Alvin are omitted from the plot entirely.
- Despite her not being bitten, Carlos is still cautious and believes that Clementine is an agent of Carver. He tells Nick to put her in the shed with 'the other one'.
- Upon entering the shed, Clementine comes across Omid who is dejected and cradling a deep knife wound on his left arm (where Clementine would have been bitten by the dog). He's extremely weak, and murmuring about how he 'couldn't save her' (presumably Christa).
- Clementine goes through the tedium of collecting supplies to stitch Omid's arm. They're attacked by a walker and the cabin group walks in on them.
- Clementine has her usual conversations about her past with Luke and about Sarah with Carlos. She accepts/rejects Nick's apology as Carlos tends to Omid upstairs. Omid remains asleep for the remainder of the episode, putting into question the reliability of his blood loss induced babbling and the fate of Christa. He is still visible on a couch in what would probably be a hub section, able to be examined and talked about with Carlos.
- Clementine heads out with Nick and Pete, this scene occurs as normal. If she saves Nick, Pete dies instantly. If she saves Pete, Nick gets away and Pete is still bitten.
Characters at the end of the Episode: Clementine, Christa, Omid, Luke, Pete, Nick, Carlos, Sarah
A House Divided/Don't Look Back
Nick Path:
- Occurs exactly the same.
Pete Path:
- Pete stays behind but doesn't die. Instead, Clementine runs back to get Carlos to help with the bite.
- Upon returning, Carlos heads out to find Nick/Pete and Luke. In the interim, Omid has woken up and headed out with Luke to find the missing group members, so Clem is left alone with Sarah. Carver scene plays out as usual.
- The group returns when Carver has left. If Pete was saved, he's being carried by Luke and Nick, and is left resting on a couch.
- The group discusses Carver.
- The group heads out, paranoid that Carver knows where they are. Pete admits he'll slow them down, and instead remains at the cabin with a gun to take out as many of Carver's goons as he can.
- If Nick was saved, the group come across him in the cellar as usual.
- The 'five days' timeskip is omitted.
- Matthew stuff probably occurs the same, not sure.
- Upon reaching the ski lodge, the group found is comprised of Walter, Sarita and Christa - the latter of whom is in place of Kenny. Walter and Sarita found her and could not turn away a pregnant woman. The five day timeskip being omitted places the Ski Lodge closer to the cabin and makes it more likely for Christa to make it there.
- Clem has to choose to sit with Omid and Christa or Luke. Luke and Omid slowly find themselves at odds.
- Bonnie shows up as usual.
- Nick and Walter stuff occurs as usual.
- Zombies happen, Luke and Omid run off to fix the transformer.
- Nick's determinant death stays.
- Carver 'rescues' everyone and herds them into the ski lodge. I'm not really sure why he'd do this as Christa's baby isn't his. Maybe he just has this cultist sense of ownership over the cabin group as a whole. Maybe Luke's his son, idk.
- Omid takes Kenny's place outside the ski lodge. He shoots Johnny, in retaliation Carver kills Sarita or something. We don't need her.
- If Omid shoots a second time, Carver kills Walter, making him determinant.
- Eventually everyone gives up and Carver says they're 'leaving as a family'.
Characters at the end of the Episode:
Clementine, Christa, Omid, Luke, Pete, Nick, Carlos, Sarah
Carver, Troy, Bonnie, Johnny
Walter, Sarita, Matthew
In Harm's Way/In Cold Blood
- During the pit stop, Carver doesn't slap Clementine. He's too much of a brute in the original version and it betrays his calculating portrayal from the previous episode, so Troy hits her instead.
- Group arrives at Howe's, is put into the pen.
- Reggie, Jane and Mike are omitted entirely. The pen is described as a last resort for rehabilitation, which is why only our group is there.
- Carlos is taken away as before, as is Omid (where Alvin would have been beforehand) because he killed Johnny.
- I honestly cannot remember what happens for the rest of this scene, so we'll put in a hub where the player can speak to every character. Depending on determinants, there can be anywhere between two and four characters to speak to. Christa and Sarah are always present, with Nick and Walter being there if you kept them alive:
- If just Nick is alive, he'll admit his worry about Luke being on his own, say how he's glad Walt spared his life because he honestly thought he was going to shoot him - and that he wouldn't blame him for doing so (because it's Nick). There could also be a more lighthearted conversation where Nick apologises again for putting her in the shed and how 'In hindsight, I should've known that wasn't gonna stop you'.
- If just Walt is alive, he'll be extremely guilty for letting Nick die, saying things like "It's not what Matt would have done" and being terrified of how Luke will react when he finds out.
- If they're both alive, they'll be staying well away from each other - Nick saying he wants to thank Walter for letting him live, but admitting that Walt probably wants nothing to do with him. Walt will be more upbeat, glad he honoured Matt's more open and forgiving approach.
- The next morning, Sarah is quiet when Clementine tells her to be. No dumbass slap or anything.
- Clementine gets a jacket from Bonnie but it doesn't look as fucking dumb.
- The greenhouse scene is a lot more serene, Sarah saying how she doesn't want to hurt anyone and Clementine can say there are other ways to survive and contribute to the group such as Carlos being a doctor. Sarah agrees and says she knows a couple of things from Carlos.
- Clementine goes out to the new annex thingy where Omid is fighting with Nick (if alive) due to how the cabin group has dragged him, Christa, Clementine and his unborn child into their problems or Mike (who's just a random Howe's member in this iteration, and only appears if Nick is dead), because of reasons.
- Zombie encounter occurs, Clementine is saved by Troy as usual.
- Clementine again runs into Luke in the comic book store.
- The heist isn't as ridiculous as it is originally, but fuck if I can be bothered to plan that out.
- The next morning Carver again summons Omid to his office because he keeps acting up.
- Their plan is discovered, and Luke takes the eye-destroying beating at the hands of Troy. Ideally before this point there would be additional scenes in ep1 & 2 where he and Clementine built up significant rapport to warrant this.
- The group plans to escape, Christa is worried about Omid. Clementine suggests the guts thing.
- Clementine goes to find Omid, he's been beaten in the office (the only time Carver has ever been excessively violent). Omid takes Alvin's death, giving it more impact.
- Clementine heads down to the stock room. Again, the group is being held up by Troy in place of Carver. They get the jump on him and knock him out. The group heads on and Luke hangs back to 'deal with it' (but there's no option to stay and watch. This will make sense later).
- Outside, they all get gutted up and head into the herd. If Walt is alive at this point, he takes Carlos's death and causes everyone to panic as they haven't walked through a herd before.
- Carlos takes Sarita's place, and Clementine has to cut his arm off or kill the Walker
Additional notes:
- 400 days group doesn't appear, as it'd take a lot of faffing about to have them have any semblance of plot relevance. Instead, they're replaced by several new characters, and Howe's generally has more civilians in it, making it feel more alive.
Characters at the end of the Episode:
Clementine, Christa, Omid, Luke, Pete, Nick, Carlos, Sarah, Walter, Bonnie
Carver, Troy, Howe's Group
Omid The Ruins
- Intro plays out similarly. If Clementine cut Carlos' arm off, he screams and is killed by walkers, prompting Sarah to break down and run away.
- If she killed the walker instead, Carlos and Sarah run off together.
- Clementine unites with Christa and Bonnie and they make it to Parker's Run. Clementine has the option to apologise to Christa about not being able to save Omid.
- If Clementine killed the walker, Carlos and Sarah are at Parker's Run, but Luke (and Nick) are missing.
- If Clementine cut Carlos' arm off, Luke (and Nick) are at Parker's Run but Sarah is missing.
- Based on who is at Parker's Run, Clementine either looks for Luke on her own, or looks for Sarah with Luke.
Looking For Luke (and Nick) (If Clementine killed the walker)
- Clementine gets into the trailer park on her own. Getting through is a lot tougher as Clementine is on her own and doesn't have Luke backing her up.
- Upon reaching the trailer where Luke (and Nick) are, Clementine hugs Luke and again thanks him for sparing her from Troy's wrath.
- The walkers attempt to break into the trailer, and Clementine and Luke have to stop them doing so. If Nick is alive, the encounter will be easier as he'll be holding the door closed allowing Luke to kill the walkers as Clementine finds something to block the door with.
- Luke gives Clem a leg up through the skylight, then climbs up himself. If Nick is alive, he'll try and hold the door shut - knowing it will probably kill him, so Luke jumps down and snaps him out of it. All three make it out alive.
Looking For Sarah (If Clementine cut Carlos' arm off)
- If Nick's alive, he stayed behind with Bonnie and Christa. On the way to the trailer park, Clementine thanks Luke for sparing her from Troy's wrath.
- They reach the trailer park and it is a lot easier to get through as Luke has Clementine's back. They again find Sarah, who's in a bit of a state but not as unresponsive as in the original game.
- The walkers attempt to break into the trailer, and Clementine and Luke have to stop them doing so. Luke has to hold the door closed while Clementine finds something to block the door with.
- Clementine can convince Sarah to come with them without being abusive. If she fails, then Luke manages to. This later affects who Sarah is more grateful/friendly with.
-When the group returns to Parker's Run, Christa's pregnancy pains are worsening. If Clementine killed the walker that bit him, she'll be able to approach Carlos and ask him about what to do. He is unresponsive, but Sarah will bluntly say what sort of things they need. When asked how she knows this, she'll state she learned a couple of things from reading her dad's books in the cabin, but that doesn't make her a surgeon or anything.
- If Carlos is already dead, Sarah will instead latch on to Christa and be slightly more enthusiastic about what they need to help her give birth, trying to escape from Carlos's death a little.
- Clementine can decide to go to the deck with Luke, or the museum with Bonnie (and Nick).
- The museum scene occurs the same, just with Nick in place of Mike if he's alive.
- When Clementine completes the museum or deck route and begins to head to the other, the subject of putting Carlos down comes up. Sarah doesn't want to do it, and Clementine can say how she (determinantly) did it to Lee. You can either encourage Sarah to do it herself for peace of mind/closure using the pistol training from episode 2, or instead do it yourself to spare her.
- On the deck, Clementine finds Luke and they find a place for Christa to give birth. Luke tries to work on the padlock as Clementine spots someone approaching. Design-wise, this is Arvo minus the leg brace, but character-wise he isn't Russian and his name is... Harvey or something.
- Luke is taken off guard and points his gun at Arvo/Harvey. They notice he has a bag.
- The bag is filled with medicine, and the choice comes up to steal from him. Regardless of choice, Arvo/Harvey flees afterwards.
- Luke continues to try to break the padlock as Clementine returns to get the rest of the group.
- Christa begins to give birth. Sarah and Bonnie take her to the deck, while Luke (and Nick) fend off the walkers.
- Sarah and Bonnie improvise as Christa gives birth, while Clem, Luke and Nick defend the deck. They use the cannon to block the walkers' path which causes the deck to collapse onto some of the walkers, but allows them to start climbing up it. Clementine climbs onto Nick or Luke's shoulders and cuts down the other half of the deck.
- Christa's baby is born.
- Bonnie advocates for leaving as soon as possible and scavenging for supplies in a nearby town, but Luke says Christa needs rest. The decision is up to Clementine.
- The following morning (or a few days later), the group heads out. If they headed out early, the backdrop is still autumnal and while the group seems to have more energy, Christa appears unwell. If they left later, it's started snowing and everyone is cold, but Christa looks better.
- Christa takes a seat to rest and tend to the baby (if they left later) or collapses (if they left earlier).
- As Luke and Bonnie argue about the decision to leave, they are approached by Arvo/Harvey/Arvey/Harvo.
- Harvey apologises to Clementine if she didn't rob him, or says 'you deserve this' if she did.
- Instead of the Russian Group, the group accompanying Harvey is comprised of Carver, Troy and two other guards - Burke and Natasha (Troy is in place of Vitali, Burke and Natasha keep the same models as the Russians with minor differences such as Burke not having tattoos). Everyone points their guns at each other.
- Luke is asked why Troy is still alive, when everyone thought he killed him. Luke says he couldn't go through with it, and is interrupted by Troy who jeers at him.
- Carver says his community has lost everything, and that he, Troy, Harvey and the other two are the only survivors. He notes that Walter and Carlos are also dead, the latter prompting Sarah to tell him to shut up.
- Luke & co didn't recognise Harvey because he joined Howe's after they escaped the first time.
- If the group left early, Christa turns and either Clementine or Bonnie shoots her, causing the gunfight to begin.
- If the group left later, Carver simply gives his people the go ahead to start shooting (I couldn't think of a decent enough branch)
Characters at the end of the Episode:
Clementine, Christa, Luke, Nick, Carlos, Sarah, Walter, Bonnie, Baby
Carver, Troy, Harvey, Burke, Natasha
I'll add the outline for ep5 later.
