I THOUGHT it was but didn't want to say anything in case I was wrong and looked stupid In that case, I feel like this was what most people who've read both felt lol. They do look fairly similar, but there are some minor differences thanks to the move to a new model.

Honestly it was mainly the blue jacket? Like, I guess the similar color scheme made me think of Annie, but then her face looked different enough that I thought I was wrong.

I love this. Stronger characterization in 120ish panels than ANF had in like 4 hours of content. Only thing I disliked was the format. I really really disliked the format. Scrolling down and seeing these big shots with so much empty space feels really tedious. Maybe you guys should mess with panelling in the future, like a full on comic. Would be more readable than this crazy amount of wasted space. Anyways, onto my opinions: Somewhat disappointed that Finn didn't just cap the little girl, lol. He did the classic villain thing, spending way too much time talking about killing her, without actually doing it.
I think I'm going to enjoy Finn once I figure out what his deal is, since I have a soft spot for total dickheads (see Nick, Ludin, Lilly, Larry, Handsome Jack, Vazquez, August, and Gared's dickhead friend in Thrones before he became irrelevant) but for now, he's just a total dick.
Karen seems pretty layered, and there's some intrigue with her family ("You look familiar"), but her writing was just a bit too on the nose imo.
In fact, if I had one criticism to level at the writing, it'd be that it seemed pretty on the nose. Like "I hate optimists" just rubbed me the wrong way a little bit. Seemed a bit too tell-don't-show, if you catch my drift.
All in all, though, I loved the strong characterization, clear direction, and am super excited for the next one. Keep it up! Fair criticism all round -- it's good to get this early on so we can improve on how we script stuff within the next couple of issues. I'll see what I can do in regards to format; Issue 2 will be the same as this one, but as Issue 3 isn't finished yet I'll try and get rid of those massive white gaps in the pages, maybe by having three panels in one page or something. I just don't want to risk making the dialogue unreadable (for reference I did play about with speech bubbles but it was a bit jarring on top of this telltale-esque style). There's two ways to look at why Finn didn't shoot the girl in the head: A), he didn't have any bullets like Karen or B) he's a bit like Nick in that he comes off as a dick but is actually putting up a front. We'll find out how his head works when he's more open, as in this one he's very closed off while Karen's quite open (the contrast I expect plays a little bit into the on-the-nose dialogue). To be honest, if a not-exactly-ideal format and the characterisation being a bit on-the-nose are the biggest criticisms, I'm happy with how things turned out -- I'll look into fixing up those things in the next issue I make (Which would be 3). Hmm... Maybe in your panels you can just give your subtitles the TTG look, with some sharper black outlines rather than speech bubbles? Either way, it's very difficult to read atm.

Yeah, the subs have always been a bit tricky. I'll try to add more outlining and maybe make the bottom part of the screen darker when characters are speaking so it contrasts better.

You should also look into the strategies of comic book composition when you can.

Good way. I loved the shit out of ITF. It'd definitely be cool to see how Annie grows up in this world and where she ends up. Though, I will admit this would have been a bit of a Clementine in New Frontier type of jump for her. It is Annie and I'm shocked no one picked it up immediately given the resemblance. When I mean that I didn't want to speculate, yeah it was mostly because I did thought that "pipsqueak" was Annie (I actually went to the wiki to see if that was confirmed before I finished reading the comic), not just because of the looks but because I vaguely remembered that she got a scar on her forehead towards the end of season 3. I wasn't too sure though because she looked a bit too old (her character looks roughly 13/14 years old to me, but if I recall correctly Annie should be roughly 10/11 years old at this point unless some of her background was changed.
Also I'm gonna guess that's if it's really her that was the reason why you specified just a few months back that "Eastland got destroyed at some point", so I guess that means most people either f*cking died or scattered, mostly the former.

While I totally 100% see how that looks exactly like Annie, I'm kinda hoping it isn't, tbh. I feel like I'd be missing a huge amount of the character, especially if she turns out to be this season's take on ANF Clementine with her role in the story.

We're gonna make it so that Haven re-establishes the character -- there isn't going to be a fuckload of forced callbacks or anything. She's the only link between the two "series" and Haven is its own thing, not a direct continuation.
In Haven, she's just a side character who happened to be in something else. You're not missing much by not reading ITF (and I seriously wouldn't recommend it because it's my personal belief that it hasn't aged well AT ALL). I wouldn't let it colour your decision or anything -- at least not until we see more of the story.
(In fact I'd go as far as to say the two aren't 100% canon to one another, only tangentially linked)
EDIT: My co-writer added that it's less of a sequel and more of a spiritual successor/reboot for the character.
