Finished it today. So let me say right off the bat: as a person who doesn't read the comics and doesn't watch the TV show - yet still decided to play because TT assured us that you don't have to know these - the introduction to the story is completely botched.
Who are you, Michonne? Where are you from? What happened to you? Why are you cutting your way through these bushes, looking almost as if you were half dead? I didn't hear an answer for that in the game. If it weren't for the TT press release stating that TWDM takes place after Michonne is separated from her original group, I wouldn't know what the hell is going on. (also: what the fuck was that screen tearing effect when she saw her kids after being imprisoned? I immediately thought about Animus glitches. Way to go.)
Since I'm talking about technical stuff - despite what many people say here, I actually liked those black borders. Made the game look even more cinematic with that 2:35:1 effect. Using it during combat scenes seemed to represent a much more focused approach, meaning, Michonne focusing on fighting and nothing else. (such effect was used in Hannibal TV series for flashbacks)
As for the story itself - it's a mess. It's bad that I simply chose silence during most dialogues, because all options were useless. (I did that for the entire fucking scene with Michonne/Sam after they were imprisoned!)
But it's even worse when I feel like the bad guys (e.g. Randall, Norma) are more likable than the supposed good ones (Sam/the-guy-who-gets-shot).
I mean, two fucking teenagers ambush me on the ferry and later are all like, "Help us!". Well, fuck you. Randall was violent, sure, but only towards them. He's a Ep3 Carver, but I sensed he respects Michonne. He didn't behave violently towards her in my playthrough.
Michonne's boat group is just 'there', don't have a lot to say about them, except Pete seems like a nice guys, that's all. And that ending... I didn't let Sam kill the guy, but judging from the preview I'm stuck with Sam anyway. Fuck. I don't like her, she seems fake.
Anyway - so far, the game feels like TWD2 light, especially reminiscent of In Harm's Way. We'll see how it goes from now on, but right now it's just meh.
6/10.

6/10. Is it just me or was the chat with Norma such formulaic TWDG villain stuff? As in, 'there's no point to this conversation because I'm only going to believe what I want to and there's no decent dialogue options anyway'. We had it with the Stranger, with Carver... it feels very cut-and-paste to me.

I guess you could say Norma is an altered Katjaa with Carver's AI...

We had it with the Stranger, with Carver... it feels very cut-and-paste to me. That's the problem with TT. They can't come up with a compelling villain in TWD - and if they do, they quickly ruin them (e.g. Carver). I mean, everytime it's "We're trying to adapt in the world gone mad, don't blame us, you're a killer too, you have to realize that", blah blah blah. It might work sometimes, but not here - because we're told that Michonne's one tough bitch (but with a dark past, burdened with guilt, blah blah blah... ) And I don't know how it works in the comics/TV show, but I don't know how Michonne managed to survive up to this point with her kids haunting her. Or maybe it just came up right now and Michonne will miraculously get over her past in Ep3 (because, I guess, she doesn't reappear in the source material with this PTSD...) Oh, it just reminded me - cool intro music! But I think HBO wants their True Detective opening credits back, Telltale. (JK, it looked awesome. I dare say it was the best part of the entire episode...) I'll this episode will also have a special place in my heart due to the fact that it caused a first (minor) argument regarding videogames between me and my other half. Screw this, I can also blame TT for that

Holy shit. I just looked up who voiced Randall (Derek Phillips), and you know who he also voiced? MARK FUCKING JEFFERSON in Life is Strange. Looks like he's been reincarnated as Carver 2.0 to go after Sam AKA an older Max Caulfield. It all makes sense now! That I didn't know this all throughout playing makes me wanna puke. (In truth, had I known I may have been more empathetic to Jefferson so I guess it's a good thing? ...nah, it's not. I feel like a fake-ass Derek Phillips fanboy.)

First thing that popped into my head is that Telltale loved making awesome intros in Tales and doesn't wanna go back to bland title sequences. Hopefully the one for episode 2 is a little different.

Finished an alt playthrough. Aside from the thing at the end, barely any differences at all. I mean, I expected at least some different reactions from characters when I choose the opposite dialogue options the whole time, and make the complete opposite decision, if not at least some different scenes. not a whole lot of that. And since the episode barely stands up on its own, I think I'm making my 8/10 a 7/10. Never good when I feel worse about it on a second playthrough.

Wow, am I the only one who thought the episode was total shit? The general verdict is that it's pretty average, though Tom wasn't too keen on it.

Wow, am I the only one who thought the episode was total shit? I wasn't overly impressed, but I didn't think it was complete shit. I have a lot of trouble formulating opinions for myself and so I'm easily swayed when strong voices make note of their own opinions. (For example, I love everything about season 2 until Harp relentless broke me.) Playing through, I thought the episode was OK. I noticed that Michonne's dialogue was very dull and that the combat was tiresome... other than that I was just happy to have some form of Walking Dead back in my life. Then I read here about Telltale reusing the same villain archetypes and thought that was accurate enough so now I'm thinking slightly less of it. Still, nothing about it really offended me to the point of thinking it was shit. Unfortunately, it seems like it's just going to be what we all kind of thought, a filler piece to get us to season 3 that might have points of overt shittiness as well as some parts that are pretty cool.

Wow, am I the only one who thought the episode was total shit? The episode is on rails even heavier than any other TT game, the ep is awfuly short and, true, the story's a mess. But that story is still better than the ones found in most AAA games out there. That's sad, actually, when an average TT story bests big-budget games.
