So I figured that since a few forum members have started playing this game, that I'd make a thread for it where we can shoot the shit about all things EMPEROR related. The master collection for DoW1 is still on sale for the next 24 hours or so, that's the base game with 3 expansions for 10 dollars. If you enjoy RTS games I'd recommend picking this up since it's considered to be one of the most notable.
And remember, IT IS BETTER TO DIE FOR THE EMPEROR THAN LIVE FOR YOURSELF.

I've only done the training mission and the first mission. This was my first RTS game, so I was kinda confused how it all worked, it took me a while to get the hang out the training mission. Fun game though, I like it.
It's also nice hearing marines yelling "CHARGE. FOR THE EMPEROR!!!" as they risk their lives for the emperor.
I did enjoy blowing the Ork Camps up like a boss. I barely lost any marines except for two or three.

So the sale for DoW1 has ended, but now DoW2 and its Master Collection (Base game plus the two expansions) has gone on sale for 75% off. The sequel is different than the original by a huge margin, but I still enjoy it. Instead of building up a base and an army, you deploy to missions with a few powerful squads with their own specialties and fight off a greater amount of enemies. It also has RPG elements. Your squads gain experience as they kill enemies and level up, letting you put skill points into different attributes like Health or ranged damage. You also get loot from the battlefield and can equip your squads with it, again, much like an RPG.
I prefer the first game because it's more of the classical RTS, but I still enjoy the second one quite a bit.

Gonna change to imperials, their vechicles are badass as fuck. The new race in Dow 2 seems pretty cool, but no base building

So, my campaign to liberate Kronus as the Imperial Guard continues. So far we've managed to make decent gains on all fronts, though we haven't been able to knock out any other factions yet. As of now, the Tau were butchered by the Necrons and the Blood Ravens were wiped off the map by the massive Ork horde that cut a swathe across the map to destroy them. Unfortunately, my guardsmen have hit a snag in the campaign. We invaded a chaos held province near their main stronghold, and this is the result of over an hour of bloody fighting. It's the perfect stalemate. My soldiers (The corpses of which are the normally sized ones you can see dotted over the field) have the superior firepower, but the Chaos Marines (The corpses clad in that massive dark red power armor) have superior numbers and troop producing capabilities. As such, they continue to throw waves and waves of their troops against my base (And into a choke point) and haven't allowed me to expand beyond my Headquarters yet, while the combined might of my tricked out Leman Russ tanks and Basilisk artillery pieces have slaughtered each of their attack forces, though not without heavy casualties to myself as well. I'm not sure I'll be able to expand beyond where I'm currently trapped but I'm steadily building up my infantry and a (risky) plan to tip the odds in my favor.

So, good news is... not "Good" so much as it is "Tolerable," but I won that epic battle. At great cost in lives, though. My plan to stealthily wipe out the enemy HQ buildings (Because in this battle they had two different bases, allowing them to produce troops much faster than me, hence the earlier slaughters) fell flat on its fucking face. Between assaults on my base I sent out stealthed recon units to try and find the enemy bases so I could bombard them with my artillery from safety. The recon units were wiped out. No survivors. I sent three of them out there and none returned. But we did manage to find one of their bases though. So I managed to bomb it into submission.
With that base eliminated, I was forced to to advance my army beyond the protection of my base in order to strike at their final HQ. That was... disastrous. While my army was spread out and still forming up near an open field, with all of my big guns in the back of the formation, a huge enemy force appeared from the fog of war and just fell onto my troops. It was insanity and bloodshed everywhere. I scrambled to reform my units but the Chaos forces chased them all the way back to my main force, which was still positioning itself to be able to fire on them effectively with the armor and artillery. So... I had to use half my army as a meat shield while the big guns set up. And those guys got fucking annihilated. By the time my heavy weapons were in place half of my troops were dead or caught up in the massive melee, so I ordered my artillery, my tanks, and my mortar batteries to unleash hell into the middle of that battle, including my own men. It was about three minutes of constant bombardment as the enemy's vehicles and heavy infantry tried to roll over my troops and get to my tanks, but a wall of explosions prevented that from happening. By the time the smoke cleared the field was littered in dead bodies, most of which were my own men. Friendly fire sucks.
The tanks and artillery didn't get a scratch, though. They rolled into the final enemy base with the remains of my infantry units and burned it to the ground. There was almost no resistance. And thanks to that battle, I've opened up a route to the enemy stronghold region (Which I already had thanks to capturing an island much earlier in the campaign, so this was pointless), earned one unit for my (now non-existent) Honor Guard, and crippled my own forces so badly that we'll need to recuperate for several turns before making our next move, all while the other three factions in the game are heading directly for my relatively undefended northern territories. Fuck.

Damn, Tau kick asses in Soulstorm. Started campaign as them, and getting enemy regions was way too easy. Strongholds are still hard. Real hard. Except for dark eldar's one. That was just too easy.
I started by invading planet where orks and SM were fighting. Marines stronghold was my first target. Tau have no turrets, so I was forced to keep most of my force in base, while small teams of pathfinders and fire warriors were destroying the deep strike beacons. Then, I just rolled a team of barracuda jets to destroy their production bases. Baracudas are op as fuck. After that, it was an all out assault on their main base and quick victory.
Ork stronghold was next. That was a massacre. After fights for the relic, ork bodies were literally everywhere. I was attacked by like 50 squads. Biggest slaugjter Ive seen in this game. I rebuilt my army after that battle and destroyed their stronghold.
Chaos was next. Really annoying stronghold. They just kept attacking my base with big forces all the time, so I didnt have time to go for the shrines. But after I destroyed them, it was easy.
Dark Eldar were hilariously easy. I just killed their ultimate vechicle theing when it was attacking my base. Pathfonders markings and barracudas can do wonders. I didnt even have to attack their base, destorying that vechicle won the game.
Then, I destroyed necrons and saved the game. That save got corrupted and game crashes when i try to load it. I have to destroy fuckin necrons again.

By the Emprah, you're wrecking shop. I wish my Imperial Guardsmen could be doing as well as you, but, you know, it's not really the IG without massive, needless casualties.

Damn, necrons base was like 10x harder on second try. I was in desperate defensive most of the time, my men were dropping like flies on every front. I just started spamming barracudas like a n00b to destroy enemy bases, and that saved me somehow.

You're lucky to play as imperial guard Rock. Their strongholds are the hardest in both dlcs. It took me like 3 hours to beat their base in dark crusade. My space marines were getting slaughtered by their vechicle spam.
Now same thing is happening in soulstorm, all my attack squads are geting annihilated fast. Gotta respect all these imperial redshirts.

Gotta respect all these imperial redshirts. Exactly. Like I said, I considered the Imperial Guard a fucking joke compared to the Space Marines before I got to their stronghold in Dark Crusade. They inflicted heavier casualties on me than any other faction's stronghold did. Then in the end they blow up the huge fucking cannon in their last stand so you can't have it. They never gave up. For a bunch of redshirts, that's pretty goddamn impressive. That battle earned them my respect.
