For safety and personal reasons, I will be keeping the exact identity of my wife and I hidden. In this story, she will be Ojo, and I will be Eiyuu. Thank you for your time.
Prologue:
I was born on February 7th of 2053, in a country of which I no longer remember the name of. For the first 8 years of my life, we lived as a relatively
normal family. My father was a safety advisor for the Emperor (we had a monarchy), and my mother stayed at home with me. I, of course, went to school,
and made a decent amount of friends, but none close enough to remember the names or faces of. In short, I had a peaceful but unremarkable life. Not
very long after I turned 8, however, my father revealed to my mother and I that he had been practicing magic in secret (something illegal in that country),
and one of the Emperor's men had discovered it. We managed to escape the house before they burned it down, having only the essentials and riding on
horseback. We traveled for a few days to get to the border, and my father had instructed us to pass through that country, and through another to the
country of Ninesstria. He was apparently close friends with the King there, and he would allow my mother and I to live with him in exchange for our
servitude. When asked what he would be doing, his mother and I spoke out of earshot. I can only assume that he was staying behind to tie up loose ends,
or maybe even turn himself in as a distraction. As it was, I never saw him again after that night. He left while I slept, and my mother and I continued on to
Ninesstria.
Chapter 1: March 22nd, 2061
The castle was magnificent. It had yellow banners with Phoenixes on them, and a drawbridge. Rather archaic, but I had assumed it was for safety
precautions. When I walked inside, I saw a long hallway, and at the end of it, a throne. Standing in front of the throne was a man with a dark green beard,
to match his shoulder length hair, and red eyes. Despite his fairly intimidating appearance, he seemed to have a friendly expression. As we walked up, he
came to meet us. "Hello! You must be Hajime's wife and son. I am, of course, the king of Ninesstria, but since you're essentially family, you may call me by
my name, Daiki." the King, Daiki said. "Pleased to meet you." My mother said, attempting to put on a brave face for my sake. I was too shy to say
anything, but Daiki just ignored me anyway. "I'm sure Hajime told you that you would have to serve me to live in this castle. You will be a maid, and I have
a special plan for your son. We will train him, and he will become the personal bodyguard for my daughter, Ojo." My heart sank. Sure, I had gotten into
scuffles on the playground and such, but I had never fought someone for real, and for the sake of someone else. Daiki seemed to notice my worry, but paid
no mind to it. "Would you like to meet her? She's in her room, it's up the stairs, down the main hall, and it's the last door on the right." Daiki said, trying
his best to sound kind. I shrugged and walked up the stairs. The walls had paintings of Daiki and a small girl with midnight blue hair and red eyes. I figured
that it must be Ojo, and upon entering her room, I was right. I saw a small beauty, the one from the paintings, staring out the window, a look of boredom
on her face. "Um...hello?" I asked. Ojo turned to me and scowled. "Wha...? How did a peasant manage to get past my father and the guards?" She asked,
seeming disgusted. I laughed nervously. "I'm not a peasant...I'm Eiyuu. Our dads were friends, apparently. I'm supposed to be your bodyguard." Ojo
looked me up and down and chuckled. "My bodyguard? But you're so scrawny. And you're only what, 3 years older than me? What do you hope to
accomplish?" I sighed and leaned against the wall. "I didn't ask for it, but your father said I'll be trained and stuff." I said. Ojo turned back to the window.
"Please leave." was all she said. I shrugged and left the room. Daiki was walking down the hall towards me. "Ah, Eiyuu. Did you speak with Ojo?" He asked.
"...kind of." I said. He laughed and put his hand on my shoulder. "I showed your mom to her room, how about I show you to yours?" He asked. I nodded,
and he took me to the room right across from Ojo's. I looked inside, and saw a twin sized bed with green sheets, and a desk. Nothing else. "I'm sure you'll
make yourself at home quickly." Daiki said, and left. I turned to look at Ojo's room, and saw her peeking out from behind the door. Upon seeing the
location of my room, she groaned, and slammed the door shut. I sighed and walked into my new room, dropping my things on the floor. I lied down on the
bed, and thought about Ojo. "What a bitch." I thought, and drifted off to sleep for my first night in Ninesstria Castle.
