The quality was somewhat off during the final episodes in S2, tbh. Also: Red Dragon storyline begins in 3x08, with Dolarhyde being played by none other than Richard Armitage a.k.a. Thorin Wait, they're just going to do the same story from Red Dragon? Yup. The series changed the order of events, with the events from Hannibal novel taking place before Red Dragon - meaning, Hannibal is on the run before being arrested. Episodes 3x03-3x05 already adapted Hannibal and Hannibal Rising (well, only Mischa was brought from the latter and Hannibal's origin story was completely redone - in a lot better way). In 3x05 that aired this Thursday, Hannibal already killed inspector Pazzi in the same manner as in the novels/movie (hanged and gutted) and press releases for episodes 3x06 and 3x07 mention Hannibal being captured by Mason Verger. Also, the previews hint that Hannibal will perform the lobotomy on Will instead of Paul Krendler. Bryan Fuller, the creator, said that the the second half of the season will adapt Red Dragon, but the storyline will be adjusted to fit the show.

So... the final episode is out. And holy shit, it was fantastic. They shot the entire season befre it even aired, but Fuller - unintentionally or not - crafted the episode that truly felt as a season finale. The beginning of the ep covered the finale of Red Dragon book (the assault on Will's family took place earlier than in the novel), so everything past the opening credits was intended as a surprise. And damn, that was great. Will making a deal with Dolarhyde, FBI faking Hannibal's escape, Alana and Margot fleeing the country - and, of course, the final fight with Dolarhyde. I'm perfectly fine with it being a series finale, because it closed all running storylines. There is a sort-of cliffhanger scene after credits, but it's easy to guess what's happening because of the foreshadowing earlier in the ep. Fortunately, if there will be a possibility of Hannibal ever being un-cancelled, they can easily pick up where they left off. Damn, that was one hell of a ride. Really fantastic show.
