Okay, so I've got a deadline for a writing contest coming up on the 15th, and like a true procrastinator, I've just now decided what i'm going to write about.... sort of. I'm stuck between two ideas. Option A and Option B. Just looking for maybe a little bit of outside input here.
Option A:
A demon/some sort of evil thingy controls people through nightmares in a small Pacific-Northwestern Town, the perspective switches between a "drifter"(for lack of a better word), and a photographer/some sort of artist who lives in the town and is the only person unaffected.
Option B:
A group of teenagers stay in a cabin during the Winter for a weekend for a weekend getaway type thing when they're snowed in by a blizzard. One of them goes missing in the woods, and stranger and stranger things continue to happen(but unlike option a, there's no specific demon or anything, just some weird "presence" in the woods). The perspective would switch between a film student who's filming everything for her YouTube Channel, hoping to use the footage in a project, and one guy who begins to hear voices coming from the woods.

I'd say go with option B, sounds like a good homage to Until Dawn.

Funnily enough I had that idea floating around since before I played Until Dawn, but it is 100% an homage of sorts to Marble Hornets. Anyway, from everyone I've asked, this is just 1 for Option A and 1 for Option B. Not very helpful.

I'd go with option A. I like this Alan Wake-like vibe.

Two votes for Option A(first vote came from someone I asked directly). Since the deadline is ~32 hours and 20 minutes away, I'm thinking I'm just going to have to go with that. Thanks for the input.

Finished reading Paul's perspective, so far so good. Thank you. I'm... fairly happy with that as the opening. I feel like Daniel's POV needs a lot of work... I did the bulk of it after sending the link to most people, so, the few people who did make any comments, they didn't read most of it. :/

I've been so unhappy with Daniel's POV that I haven't written anything in What Comes After since I finished it up...
Still, my goal is to finish Episode One by the end of the year... Hopefully I'll be able to get a lot done over Christmas Break.
Oh, and I decided that I wanted to go back to my plan of writing key moments in my "Nexus" story to put up on the internet for some constructive criticism. I've specifically got one moment from Zola's story planned out in my head, and it's anyone's guess if I'll write that or the next POV in What Comes After next.

I like both, but I think option B's "presence" is way more interesting than A. If the demon in A was just a mysterious presence as well, then I'd go with that.

I like both, but I think option B's "presence" is way more interesting than A. If the demon in A was just a mysterious presence as well, then I'd go with that. I missed the deadline. I will at some point probably write both though. And yeah, it's more of a presence in both of them. I mean, really, both of them exist right now as sequences of images connected by some basic ideas for characters. In "A", I was sort of picturing a vibe similar to Twin Peaks or Alan Wake with the small town, while focusing on the interactions between two foil characters. The tone would be... somewhere between the two previously mentioned series'. Not as "weird" as Twin Peaks, and not as "dark" as Alan Wake. I think that's more fitting to a short story type of thing. I've got various images floating around in my head... Not sure how they'd fit into the story. With "B", I was actually playing around with the idea as some sort of project similar to Marble Hornets or Everyman HYBRID. I wasn't actually thinking of doing anything with it, but I sort of just thought of the story and characters, who, in an ideal world, of the people I know would play each of the characters, how it would be filmed, etc. In that form, the story would have existed as 7 short videos that never actually show any sort of monster as it were, but they begin to affect the people and they turn on each other. However, the story sort of stuck in my head and I decided to maybe take some notes on it as a story. I've got a decent amount of notes and a good idea of where the story would go if I ever wrote it. This one would be more of a long-form type of thing if I ever wrote it. The "presence" would remain largely unknown, working through other people. I also had an idea that later on in the story, things would become a little more... "intense". At one point, I toyed with the idea of the "presence" getting inside the heads of two of the characters and, within a dream(though, not really a dream), they would be transported into a world that.... Remember "Carcosa" from S1 of True Detective? It would kind of look like that. The exact nature of the "presence" would remain largely unknown.... Not sure how it would end. It would have a larger cast, and would focus on some larger events, as opposed to being character focused. (I know you just gave your vote as to what was more interesting, but I typed all that because my ear infection has gotten worse and I'm doing everything I can to distract myself. Exploring my ideas for these stories by typing them down is honestly one of the best ways to do that. sorry.)

Hey, I've actually been working on something! So, a childhood friend of mine, who I'll call T, that I've recently reconnected with, is co-writing a story with me that... well, it hasn't got a title yet, we've just been calling it "The Gator Story". Basically, I saw this gif of an alligator with a house on his back and some ducks following him. I sent it to her since it seemed like something she'd like and we spent a good hour or two planning a story which has turned into an 8-page outline of a 10 chapter story, along with us planning out times for us to meet up in the school library during study halls to work on it.
Short Synopsis:
A Swamp Witch creates a magic Alligator, but as time goes on, treats him less like a friend and more like a pet. The Gator leaves to live his own life, and has a series of adventures with some magic ducks and a homeless girl who tells them about all the amazing things in the world that there are to see(since the Gator and Ducks have lived in the Swamp most of their lives). There's a lot more planned to it, but I get the feeling that we might actually finish the story, so... I guess I don't want to spoil it.

So, V is a mutual friend of me and T, and she actually drew one of the characters from "The Gator Story"

As for What Comes After.... I've got someone I'm working with on "The Gator Story", plus it's a bit... "lighter", in a lot of ways, so I'm thinking that I will actually be working on that. So.... what Comes After has been tabled for now, I guess. Again.
Good news: My Creative Writing class started and it seems like a really good environment that will just help me maintain a creative work ethic, I guess. On top of this, I'm just.... in a really good mood recently because not only have things generally been going well, but things have just been continually less awkward with V (even being probably one of my best friends now things can still be awkward between the two of us) and she's now in my "Writer's Workshop" for Creative Writing, basically meaning we'll be working together and kind of just be partners in the class, exchanging work with each other and providing each other constructive criticism.
So.... Good mood = good work ethic.
But, even aside from working on "The Gator Story" with T (and V, I guess, since she wants to draw some of the other characters when we can a good idea of what they look like, and just having some solid designs helps with the story a bit, at least, for me it does), I'm going to be working on Nexus(the story I talked about much earlier in this thread), as I need at least two excerpts from my work to be accepted into the Creative Writing and Literature program at my college. I do have something I can use, but I'm hoping that by the end of February(I want to give them something by then at the latest), I'll have some excerpts form Nexus.
So, my priorities right now are as follows:
"The Gator Story" Nexus What Comes After "Untitled" (The Alan Wake-esque story) "Untitled" (My Marble Hornets homage) Tempest (Going to be honest, the two main characters were, in my head, 100% stand-ins for me and V and I think I just liked... thinking about that story when my feelings for her were really... not helping with the bad place I was in last Summer... But I do like the story. I just think I need to rework the characters(especially since V is in my "Writer's Workshop" and more likely than not will see the story at some point))
