The title might sound confusing, but here you can talk about moments from any form of entertainment (TV show, game, or book) that you were sad about as a child. I'll start this off with my list.
Video Game:
Sonic's death in Sonic '06: Before this, I hadn't been exposed to sad deaths that much in TV Shows or movies. My mom never let me see any of the really sad Disney movies like Bambi, or Land Before Time. Because of this, I was completely shocked when Sonic ended up getting fucking impaled on a energy blast at the beginning of the last level in Sonic '06. Seeing my favorite game character just fall to the floor dead was terrifying for me, since I had never expected such thing to occur in a game. Of course this sadness was temporary until I beat the game and he was revived, but still, it was scarring nonetheless.
TV:
Leonardo's "death" in TMNT 2003: Like Sonic, I had grown up on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the 2003 series being my introduction to the series. When I first watched the show, Leonardo was my favorite due to the fact he was the "blue" turtle, my favorite color (Though I later shifted towards Donatello once the 2012 series started). When he almost died at the season 1 finale I could say that I wasn't really feeling well about it. Fortunately this prepared me for when the same event occurred during the Season 2 finale of the 2012 series, with almost the entire scene from nine years prior flashing before me like some bad PTSD moment.
Books:
Shade's Sacrifice in Firewing: In middle school, the Silverwing trilogy of books were my favorite, having originally watched a cartoon based off the first book, then going on to read the entire trilogy. The main character, Shade, was one of my favorite characters in literature, and I thoroughly enjoyed his transformation from the runt of his group, to the clan leader with his own family. At the end of the final book though, when Goth kills Shade's son Griffin to escape Hell, Shade allows himself to fall to his death in order to give his son his soul in order to escape. While Shade doesn't necessarily "die" from this, as he still appears to Griffin and his mother Marina as a spirit, it was still a heartbreaking moment for me.
