Gatsby wasn't that great, but LotF is good. Out of curiosity, why didn't you like Gatsby? Just wasn't that entertaining. Sure, it has an insane amount of depth. Doesn't make it fun to read.

Well if it makes you feel better, Baz Lerman really fucked up the film.

Wait, what the fuck? How do you go from Moulin Rouge to The Great Gatsby(2013)? Moulin Rouge is one of my favorite movies ever, and the new Gatsby movie was terrible.......

And more than half of them are by Stephen King.

Not sure either, though I must admit I am not really a big fan of Moulin Rouge at all, I feel the words Jeremy Jahns used to describe the new movie was perfect, "But first let's take some acid... and now let's make a movie!" Baz Lerman 2013.

I'm tempted to boot Gatsby from the list in favor of Maus, but I don't think Maus belongs in this list. I'd rather make a separate list for Graphic novels than put Maus on a list where it doesn't really fit.

I read the road. That was one damn depressing book.
The gunslinger series looks interesting. I haven't read anything from steven king before, might as well start this semester.
As for my favorite books.... I'm not really sure I have favorites. The song of ice and fire series is a really good, long read. It's probably a good time to get into the book series. When you finish reading, the next book might be out.
Lord of the rings is really nice.
Tries thinking of less obvious books.
Well, I did just start reading Plato's republic. I was afraid that it would fly waaaaaay over my head, but I actually found it remarkably easy to understand. At least the first book (think chapter) anyways. I would definitely recommend at least giving it a try. You have nothing to loose.
Anything else by Tolkien or CS Lewis is also worth a read. His space trilogy is really good, definitely better than the chronicles of Narnia. Those books are, in chronological order, Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra (my favorite of the three), and That Hideous Strength.
Oh, and Screwtape letters. That book is a blast.

Yeah, I'd highly recommend the Dark Tower Series. Like I said though, The Gunslinger isn't the most enjoyable book to read... There IS a rewritten version though. King went back after the last book was published and tried to make The Gunslinger easier to read. I've heard that Wizard and Glass(the book I'm currently one) is the best one, and that the most recent book(takes place between 4 and 5), The Wind Through the Keyhole is also really great. Another note, is that all of King's books are connected to the Dark Tower series in one way or another. So, there's some stuff you might not get, as in Wizard and Glass, where some major plot elements are actually tied to the events of The Stand. I did try reading The Lord of the Rings once... and it was such a struggle to get through, that I just stopped reading the first one halfway through.... I've got the whole series though, and might go back to it at some point. And I know about A song of Ice and Fire. Got all the books for Christmas. I'm going to finish Wizard and Glass, and from what I've heard, there actually is something of a disconnect between Wizard and Glass and Wolves of the Calla(DT V), so since I don't even have the last three books, I'll start reading the A Song of Ice and Fire books once I finish Wizard and Glass.
