Troy's death was kinda lame. Unless he's not quite dead? I'm at the episode right before the season three season finale.
The whole thing with the Proctors is a really cool concept. Strand is still my favorite character even if he did betray everyone. I love his whole trench coat over Hawaiian shirt look.
I still hate Madison.
Guarantee there are a ton of NickxTroy shippers on tumblr.

I liked the nature of the death though, I understand why she killed him but I still hate Madison. It was also very gritty and I feel like TWD wouldn't have done something like that especially to a popular character (seriously, damn near everyone loved Troy, there's still active petitions for him to be brought back lol)
And yeah, probably. I did like their friendship tho, Nick's a piece of garbage tho (heh)

I mean, I never forgave Troy and was constantly frustrated at everyone's willingness to forgive how he tortured and murdered innocent people "for science", so I'm just upset he didn't have a more brutal death. I hated him. I mean, I was kinda..... kiiiiiinda coming around on him, but nah, I'm glad he's dead.

John is my new favorite character in all of Walking Dead canon.
Also, the premiere was fantastic.

I do like the new intro for this season.
Quite the journey Morgan has been on since he left the junkyard after talking with Jesus, Carol and Rick. John is cool with those gunslinger skills of his and I like that van Althea drives. She is not to be mess with while driving that beast, that's for sure.
Leland and his posse sure are a bunch of dicks. That fight scene was very intense. Morgan's really taking Jesus' advice seriously since he helped that one guy from falling. Yet, he still attacked Morgan and both fell through the roof. How convenient one of those walkers had grenades strapped to it.
And they all just got ambushed by the Clarks by the looks of it. Not how I imagined Morgan would be meeting them.

Ha, the guy who plays John was Burt from Raising Hope! I knew I recognized him!
Anyway
I kinda wanted to say more on this episode? I rewatched it and... yeah, it's fantastic. I don't know what I actually have to say, though. Morgan remains a fascinating character and Lennie James is an amazing actor, both of the new characters are great and I can't wait to see more of them, I love the whole "Western but with zombies" vibe they've got going, the cinematography is great and the opening bit with Morgan is especially fantastic.... yeah, it's just an awesome episode. I'm also really looking forward to finding out what happened to Nick and Alicia and everyone else next episode. Yeah, just... great episode.

It amazes me that Gimple had a part in this episode. Maybe he's redeeming himself with Fear?

He's always been an amazing writer. He wrote Clear, Here's Not Here, and What's Happened and What's Going On, three of the best episodes of The Walking Dead, plus many others. I think most of the problems with Season 8 were structural, and even the flaws in the writing I think resulted from misguided ideas originating from the Writer's Room(i.e. sticking with the garbage people, killing Carl, the Oceanside subplot, Eugene's downfall and redemption, etc.). There was some sophomoric writing resulting from the desire to create openly "impactful/important" dialogue, when Gimple works best with more naturalistic dialogue(i.e. what we say in the S4 premiere of Fear last night), but that wasn't the main problem with Season 8.
Long story short, he doesn't need to redeem himself as a writer imo. The problems with Season 8 were largely outside of the control of whoever wrote which episodes.

It's nice to see that the Clarks and Strand managed to stay together ever since Nick blew up the dam. Even Luciana reunited with them. But where's Daniel and Walker? Are they even still alive?
Madison gets a gun aimed at her by a stranger lady named Naomi, they saved her and bring her back to patch Nick. I almost thought that she died after she fell through that hole, and Nick seems to be having some PTSD over what happened at the dam.
God damn it. Charlie has been telling this guy Mel and his group, the Vultures, all about the settlement the Clarks have been staying in. And here I thought she was such a sweetheart. This just makes me think about how 9-year-old Clem was manipulated by the Stranger, telling him everything about Lee and the choices he made.
And now we're back to where they ambush Morgan, John and Al.
