In season 1 when something like that was said, it made fucking sense! That's the thing though. It didn't. Rust Cohle was a mother fucking lunatic who spouted a bunch of philosophically nonsensical horseshit. But it worked because he was countered by Marty who would constantly even him out by being the straight man that would call him on it. Countless times Marty would say shit like "what the fuck are you talking about" or "you sound like an asshole" or "would you stop saying shit like that." It made it work. This season the characters are going around saying smarmy shit and there's no one to be like "hey, asshole, shut the fuck up, you sound retarded." I probably should have worded that better, that's what I meant. It made sense because Rust was a lunatic, he had a reason to say such outlandish shit, Vince Vaughn has no reason!

Found this on Barstool that found it on 4chan. Guess the real Frank Semyon quotes vs. the fake ones. 1. Never do anything out of hunger. Even eating. 2. I didn’t create the lottery, i just pick my numbers. 3. Sometimes you worst self is your best self. 4. You can’t stop me. You can’t even stop yourself. 5. If you want to get away, don’t fasten the seatbelts. 6. I never lost a tooth. Never even had a fuckin cavity. 7. What if I’m still in that basement?” It’s all papier-mâché. 8. You can’t tap dance if you’re wearing soft shoes. That’s been the case since the dawn of time. 9. Mow the lawn. I don’t want any of these kids getting snake bitten. 10. There’s a certain stridency at work here. 11. I’m feeling a little apoplectic myself. 12. Spare me the sententious talk. It’s picayune and unctuous. 13. The things I’m planning, black rage goes a long way. 14. If you want to do something right, do it wrong 15. ‘You know the word ‘louche’? You’ve got this Roger Moore thing – Johnny Unflappable… Somebody’s pulling me out on the streets and you’re louche?!’ 16. The nomenclature, Blake. It’s off. This place needs something that captures solemnity. We’re not brick and mortar anymore. We’re steel and glass.” 17. I’m so up to my neck in shit, I’m thinking about ordering a snorkel. 18. You don’t take on somebody else’s grief. I mean, they all come in with their own. Don’t you and I and every other hapless monkey on the planet? 19. The Russians are riding my ass like a pair of wet jockeys, and you’re telling me to hit the brakes? Answer key: 1. Real, 2. fake, 3. real, 4. fake, 5. fake, 6. real, 7. real, 8. fake, 9. real, 10. real, 11. real, 12. fake, 13. real, 14. fake, 15. real, 16. fake, 17. fake, 18. real 19. fake. P.S. The inclusion of the word apoplectic in a conversation is OUT OF THIS WORLD COCKEYED. You know what I did to find the word "cockeyed?" Looked up a dumb person word on Dictionary.com and found a smarter sounding synonym, which is what Nic Pizzolatto must do before writing his scripts. Apoplectic? That's a god damn SAT word. That's a word that I "learned" in 11th grade when I'd be half-asleep at 8 AM in SAT Prep class. Also, AMAZING coincidence on ad choice or whatever it is that popped up when I was on Dictionary site:

Or, at least it was coherent. I could understand all of what he said, even if it was insane. Sure, the "Time is a flat circle, death created time to grow things he could kill" speech is a little insane, but it comes down to time not mattering. His first little monologue about how human consciousness was the greatest misstep in our evolution also was coherent, even if it was fucking nuts. Almost all of the stuff about his daughter made sense, even if it was fucking depressing, and his whole "form and void" thing in the last episode also made sense. It was all coherent, you could break down all of what he said and understand it, even if you looked at it and thought it was bullshit. With Frank, it seems like most of what he says is bullshit dressed up the same way Rust presented his actual coherent philosophies. Though, I did like the dream that Velcoro had with his father. That was still pretty good. Anything with Frank...no. Like, the whole thing about what if he's still in the room..... It doesn't mean anything. So what if he is? Does it matter? Did that whole thing mean anything? No. I think it's maybe a little similar to what Rust talked about with the Locked Room, but that had a point. He was comparing the mind to a prison. Frank was just.... I don't know, rambling.

Velcoro is still the best character, starting to wish it was just him and not four main characters.

I finished Season 1 of this show. Fucking BRILLIANT. Oh my God that was amazing. I wasn't expecting such a heartwarming ending. Just everything about is just so fucking perfect. I love it. I love how you see the killer once, think, "Wait, no no no, what was he saying?" And then you totally forget about it, until he shows up again, and reveals himself AS THE KILLER. Oh my God that was fucking great.

Started watching Season 2, but I'm not liking it as much so far. Season 1 had a laser tight focus. Every character was involved in the plot, every character had a purpose, and you could see that the moment they walked on screen. They all played into the story, and all of it was constantly running through my head over and over again as the mystery headed towards its conclusion.
EDIT: Season 2 immediately lost me a bit when it had like 5 different main characters, with few clear connections between them. It just seems petty so far.
EDIT 2: Then it lost me even more when Ray beat that kid's father. What THE FUCK was that? I officially hate every character in Season 2. I see no reason to redeem them. Ever. They can do what they like, but it's like Theon. Some people might get over that shit, but FUCK every single one of the characters
Ray is a CUNT. A MASSIVE cunt.
The girl needs everybody to do exactly what she wants at every second of every fucking day.
Vince Vaughn is fucking BORING.
The other dude annoys the shit out of me.
UGH. Whatever happened to this sort of thing?
These guys aren't keeping anyone from the door, they're the ones that need to be locked the fuck out. There's nothing of interest, and there's nothing I want to see. Fuck Season 2.

Ani Bezzerides. Lover of big dicks. Oh my god. Was that enough to shoot her up the rankings of my favorite character? Screw it, I don't need permission. Bezzerides for President. Of taking big dicks. (This was a big time misogynistic episode for me. Decided to like a female character just because she likes well-endowed gentlemen. Also, in the sit down with Velcoro and his wife, I thought to myself "what a huge cunt" when she walked out of the meeting glaring him down even though she definitely isn't wrong to try and keep her son away from Velcoro to an extent.) And what in the fuck is a cooze? Christ almighty, Pizzolato. Introducing me to insults I've never even heard of. I feel like I'm back in high school finding out what "head" was for the first time. Anyways, Paul continues to have some great stuff. Taylor Kitsch is doing a great job. I love that Velcoro is getting crazy again. I hope from now until the end of season he just takes names and cracks skulls. ...hopefully he starts with Frank because I don't give a flying turd fuck about that mother fucker. Or his BOOOOORING wife. I will now end my post with a #tbt to Bezzerides loving big dicks. ^^^^^^^^Big dick lover^^^^^^^^

Fucking Theon Greyjoy is better than this guy.

Which uh.... isn't saying much, admittedly, but still. Everyone else just kind of bores me.

I'm almost tempted to not watch Season 2, since the ending of the first Season was so good. I actually kind of wish I'd gone through with this. I mean, Season Two isn't bad on it's own, but compared to the first, it's just a severe drop in quality.

I kid you not, this week I had the urge to just fast forward every scene with that forth main character of whom I can't even remember his name, just to get to more Velcoro.

Probably was the best choice in the long run, hell I think they should never have called it True Detectives season 2, call it something else! Then we wouldn't be making comparisons every time to something better!

This whole thing isn't that much of a disappointment to me. Season 1 confused the shit out of me and made me focus too hard each Sunday. It was like working out. I liked it for the most part, but it probably wouldn't crack any of my favorites lists.

So I was talking with MY BOY Darren, who's a detective, last night (related to him somehow... dunno how... one of those family members that you have no idea how you're related but you've got no one else to talk to at the Christmas Eve party you have to attend each year and he's the only guy that has similar interests with you) and we got to discussing True Detective. I get the feeling that he likes this season a lot more than I do.* Anyways, I brought up the shootout from episode 4 and how Paul holds his gun like a savage and he said that it was intentional. That that's how people in the FBI are taught to handle a gun, so that it's always at the ready. Pretty cool to get the scoop on True Detective from a detective.
Also makes me love Paul even more. They put a lot of effort into that scene from his perspective. He was the only one that wasn't shook by the fire fight, which makes sense given his background overseas and with Black Mountain whatever the fuck that is. Adding in how he carries his gun... love it. Great attention to detail.
*If I give off the impression that I hate season 2, I apologize. I don't. I don't love it, obviously, but I'm tuning in every week so I like it well enough.
